Who’ll win at the weekend?

Who’ll win at the weekend?

There’s county semi-final action on in the Senior, Intermediate, Junior and Junior B Championships this coming weekend (with relegation finals thrown in to boot at Senior and Intermediate levels as well). The full list of the weekend’s fixtures is here.

It’s said that semi-finals are simply for winning (though, indeed, that pithy observation could well be made about any sporting contest) and also that losing out in the penultimate round is the most painful defeat of all (even if many losing finalists – including those attired in Green and Red – might beg to differ).

With all these big games on the line, it might be an interesting exercise to gauge who everyone thinks might make it to their respective finals. So, with that in mind, here are a few polls on that topic, all of which pose that very question.

We’ll start, as it were, on football’s factory floor, the Junior B Championship. Kilmovee Shamrocks take on Swinford in the first semi-final in this competition on Saturday afternoon while Achill take on Killala in the other semi the following day. Which two teams do you reckon will make the Junior B decider?

Who'll make the Junior B final?

  • Achill and Swinford (40%, 109 Votes)
  • Killala and Swinford (26%, 72 Votes)
  • Achill and Kilmovee Shamrocks (23%, 64 Votes)
  • Killala and Kilmovee Shamrocks (11%, 29 Votes)

Next up it’s Junior or, more properly, the Exclusive Junior Championship. Here the semi-final ties see Ardagh taking on Kiltimagh on Saturday while Bonniconlon face Eastern Gaels on Sunday. Which two of them will go on to compete for the Petie McDonnell Cup?

Who'll reach the Junior final?

  • Ardagh and Bonniconlon (49%, 154 Votes)
  • Kiltimagh and Bonniconlon (31%, 98 Votes)
  • Kiltimagh and Eastern Gaels (11%, 35 Votes)
  • Ardagh and Eastern Gaels (9%, 27 Votes)

Onto the Intermediate Championship where, as ever, the margins between the four teams who remain standing are wafer-thin. Kilmeena tackle Kiltane on Saturday (a game I’m aiming to be at) while Ardnaree Sarsfields take on Moy Davitts on Sunday. Both matches are being streamed live by Mayo GAA TV. Which two of this quartet will survive to contest the Sweeney Cup later this month?

Who'll reach the Intermediate final?

  • Moy Davitts and Kilmeena (52%, 194 Votes)
  • Moy Davitts and Kiltane (28%, 105 Votes)
  • Ardnaree Sarsfields and Kiltane (11%, 41 Votes)
  • Ardnaree Sarsfields and Kilmeena (9%, 35 Votes)

Finally, let’s turn our thought to the Senior final. This year sees a real high-quality final four, featuring the last three clubs to win the Moclair Cup as well as the reigning county and All-Ireland Intermediate champions. The line-up for the semi-finals sees Crossmolina Deel Rovers play Westport on Saturday while defending champions Ballina Stephenites take on neighbours Knockmore on Sunday. Which two teams will make it to this year’s blue riband decider?

Who'll qualify for the Senior final?

  • Ballina Stephenites and Crossmolina Deel Rovers (55%, 399 Votes)
  • Knockmore and Crossmolina Deel Rovers (20%, 147 Votes)
  • Ballina Stephenites and Westport (17%, 120 Votes)
  • Knockmore and Westport (8%, 58 Votes)

Total Voters: 724

Right, that’s the most number of polls I’ve ever released into the wild at the one time. Off with ye now and vote on the various propositions.

I saw the Paddy O'Malley sending off and was disappointed for him Westport to be missing the semifinal but unfortunately it was a red card all day long. He's won the appeal and is able to play on Saturday. Good luck to him but ffs what is the point in referees doing their job only for the weaklings in the executive to undermine them. Presumably we'll hear on what grounds the appeal was upheld. ........He deliberately kicked Davitt Neary which is a straight red. Are they saying he didn't kick him? An accident? Mistaken identity? We'll see.

I agree Joe. Completely undermines the referee. Very rare now that a player doesn’t get off. Was surprised Ruttledge didn’t get off for the final last year.

I have to agree with JoeG I also saw the Sending off of Paddy O Malley he kicked Davitt Neary and it was a red card all day long. It undermined the referee who sent him.off.
It's hard to see how he won his appeal when it was so clear cut there is something not right with the executives idecision and should be called out..

Clare, are you basing that opinion from being at the game or from TV replays?

@Maggie

Does it matter either way ? Was clearly a red. Others also said it was a clear red not just me .

@Clare, it does matter. It was unclear from the Mayo GAA stream as it did not capture the incident. Therefore it is only possible to opine on the merits or otherwise of the red card if you saw it live or you had access to footage not in the public domain. To suggest it was a straight red because other people suggested it was a straight red is unfair. To criticise the overturning of the red card is unfair on the panel tasked with appeals without access to the full facts.

@Maggie

Eh I never once suggested it was a straight red because other people said it did I? . Don't know why your just jumping on my comment and not others tbh . It's a clear red if someone kicked another player . Also it's unfair on the ref who gave the card in the first place. That undermines referees .

Has anyone had trouble with Mayo Tv. I paid to watch Ballina V Knockmore and just realized that the match on their homepage was last years. In fact on the help section there is a video explaining how to stream which I followed this lead me fixtures dating back 2017!!!
I missed the match and got no reply to my emails looking for help. Their website is joke or have missed something?
