Right, there’s literally no going back now. We’re through US pre-clearance and, although we’re still on the ground at Dublin airport, we’re already officially in the USA.
I’m hugely looking forward to the trip now. While I’ve been to New York a number of times in the past, this will be the first time I’ll have been to this unique Championship fixture. I’m fascinated to see it all first-hand and, equally, I’m interested in what the weekend holds for us in one of the great cities of the world.
I’m also enthused about our live podcast event tomorrow night in The Joyce, where Mike, Rob and I are hoping to get to chat with plenty of our club members and with Mayo supporters more generally. Colm Boyle and John Casey will be with us on the night and it has all the makings of a memorable event.
Before our boarding call, it’s worth giving a shout out to the sponsors who’ve come on board with us on the podcast this year and whose support is such a vote of confidence in what we do. EBS are with us for the year and also supporting us for this New York trip are Ireland West Airport, Hastings Insurance, Mayo County Council’s Mayo Day 2024 and Connacht GAA. A huge thanks to all of them.
Right, New York here we come – see you on the other side. Up Mayo.

Great occasion! Enjoy!

Enjoy the trip lads, its a brilliant weekend! The rambling house on Katona Ave in the Bronx is a fine spot for some grub. Huge crowd gone over from around these parts, will be like home form home in Joyces and Connolly's in Manhattan!
Willie Joe says:

LT - see the earlier post re the Portwest Times Square event at 6pm on Saturday. Connolly’s after that would be a decent place to start.

Have a blast, lads. Keep the rest of us at home updated. Having been the last twice, and having been under the false impression until this week that a much smaller crowd was travelling from Mayo, the ROMO (Regret Of Missing Out) has really kicked in. If it's half as much fun as 2019 was, you're in for a real treat!
Up Mayo and here's hoping everyone returns injury-free.

Pictures and videos online showing Mayo team leaving and my god you wouldnt see Man Utd with as big a back room team and officials.
Are Mayo GAA funding officers to go to? And I dont get officers mingling and travelling with players and management.
Gizmobobs says:
April 5, 2024 at 9:44 am
PK Mayo GAA would be footing bill. Officers and close to 18 of the backroom management team. Would buy a lot of size 5 O'Neills!!
Not much they can do about the travelling with the team in this particular instance mind, bar chartering a plane :)
Tony Freeman says:
April 5, 2024 at 9:47 am
No doubt some people will be on here soon telling us they have information that the team, management and officers are staying in the Ritz Carlton and they were all brought out on a shopping trip around Macy’s.
Gizmobobs says:

Tony after stays in Adare and Lough Erne resort earlier in year they have a slightly more reserved Hotel in NY, a lot of back team sharing rooms also.
Is it just 5 of the NY panel from last years historic win that remain? Hope do not blow them away altogether. It is good see the diaspora get stronger. When see NY success at Feile it is a credit to them.

Enjoy the trip everybody. Sickened I can't go with club commitments, always a brilliant weekend in NYC for the connaught champo.
Pretty much every gael in NYC will turn up to the bronx, lots of non mayo fans too. Its such a proud day for the ex-pats in America
As for the game itself get it won early and whip the key men (Ryan, durcan and mcbrien) off by ht
Supermac says:

...also I'm calling it here and now. Galway are ripe for an ambush against Sligo in a fortnight which will throw the championship wide open.
No sign of any of those injuries clearing up and Sligo have been improving bit by bit and had a very good league campaign and scoring forwards.
I'm calling it lads, Sligo to beat galway and throw the championship wide open. You heard it here first
Young Fella says:
April 5, 2024 at 11:14 am
Supermac, as someone living in Sligo I would be very surprised if your prediction come true. I would very much welcome it but Sligo are not on a level with Div 1 teams.
Mayo team named for Sunday, no Jordan Flynn on the 26. Hope he hasn’t picked up a knock. Interesting to see David McBrien named at midfield, his power there would be good to see but I think need him further back the field.
Tony Freeman says:
April 5, 2024 at 11:20 am
McStay said a squad of 36 is travelling so the 10 players missing from the Matchday 26 and were in the video of the team landing in New York are :
Rory Byrne
Eoin O’Donaghue
Donnacha McHugh
Conor Reid
Frank Irwin
Diarmuid O’Connor
Conor Loftus
Jordan Flynn
Kevin Quinn
James Carr
Wide Ball says:
April 5, 2024 at 11:24 am
You would assume McHugh, Carr, Flynn and Diarmuid have injuries as they'd definitely make the 26 otherwise.
Gizmobobs says:
April 5, 2024 at 11:29 am
Flynn meant to have picked up knock few weeks back, could be out a few more weeks.
TsuDhoNim says:
April 5, 2024 at 11:34 am
@Wide Ball: James' previous injury he's still recovering from likely enough to keep him out of/rested for this one. The last thing you want when returning from injury is a big hit on a 4/5G pitch so wouldn't be shocked if he's not carrying anything new.
I'd personally love to see Hession & Hunt/Plunkett in to start or relatively early (H/T kind of thing) for McBrien & Durcan for the same reason.
Supermac says:
April 5, 2024 at 12:12 pm
James Carr the most notable absentee for me.
You would have thought he'd be one of the first names on the teamsheet for this as he completes his comeback following decent cameo v monaghan, one can only assume its an injury recurrence....
Which is a shame as we go into championship with a nailed on starting full forward line of AOS/Ryan/Tommy, with Tommy and Aido having managed a grand total of 4 points between them all league. Derry defender eoin mcevoy managed more then that in 1 half on Sunday
Thedarkyfinn says:
April 5, 2024 at 12:15 pm
Jordan picked up a knock in the Monaghan game near the end and was subbed but nothing major and along with Diarmuid should be thereabouts for the Ross game, I suspect Carr, Reid maybe minded from the playing surface. Hopefully all come back well after a good workout
Thedarkyfinn says:
April 5, 2024 at 12:44 pm
Actually think Leitrim and Sligo could be pretty close game on Sunday. Andy seems to be going well at the moment so will be no gimme for Sligo
