Three years on from when they were last there, Tooreen’s hurlers are heading back to Croke Park on Saturday night. One more they’re battling for an All-Ireland title, where they’re up against Tipperary’s Upperchurch-Drombane in the All-Ireland Intermediate club hurling final.
Back in January 2023 Tooreen gave it everything against Monaleen of Limerick, losing out agonisingly in that year’s All-Ireland IHC decider by just two points. Roared on by a huge, boisterous following in the Hogan Stand, the lads from the other end of Aghamore parish – the hurling mad end – graced the hallowed turf with a proper All-Ireland performance, one that saw them lead for most of the game, only to be overhauled by their Limerick opponents in the closing minutes.
That game three years ago has featured in much of the media coverage ahead of Saturday evening’s final. Fergal Boland has been on media duties for the club in advance of Saturday’s big night out – there are preview pieces with him on GAA, RTÉ, Irish Times, Irish Independent, Irish Sun, The 42 and Mayo News.
They’re all worth a read, underlining as they do just what a big moment this is for Tooreen. I was there at HQ for the final three years ago and I’m hugely looking forward to being there again on Saturday night to lend my vocal support to the cause. Here’s hoping the lads from the parish will get over the line this time.
If you’re planning on going along on Saturday, tickets for the final, which is a double-header with the Junior final between Sligo’s Easkey and Kilbrittain of Cork, are available to purchase here. If you’re a season ticket holder, by the way, this game is covered by it so you just need to log into your season ticket account, swirl through the usual surfeit of hang tight nonsense before eventually the monster coughs up your free ticket for the game.
Saturday’s final is also live on TG4. Throw-in for it is 5.15pm, with the Junior final getting underway at 3.15pm.
The very best of luck to Tooreen on Saturday night.

What wonderful ambassadors Tooreen are for Mayo hurling...They get very little recognition from supporters within the County.....
Let's hope Saturday Mayo's sporting exiles in the Capital will turn up in large numbers and cheer them on to achieve what would be an historical victory.....
I will be listening or watching anxiously from Tamraght Morocco 🇲🇦...

Best of luck to Tooreen.
I think the pain of the narrow defeat 3 years ago will drive these lads to victory this time.
An unbelievable club who have done so much for hurling in Mayo over the years.

Best of luck to Tooreen, hopefully they avenge the defeat of three years ago and lead the way for our county sides.

Best of luck to Toreen in the All Ireland Final. A team
well worth supporting, they deserve recognition. I hope they make the breakthrough. Tipp teams play fairly, win or lose.

I just scrolled through the Irish Times app, Irish Independent app and RTE app trying to get a score at half time. Plenty of Leinster v La Rochelle and FA cup. Not a word of this game or the junior final that finished a while ago. Pretty shite from the national media. Anyway best of luck Tooreen!

Ref couldn’t wait to give that last free, has been a bit harsh on Tooreen, I thought. That block by the Tipp full-back should have been a penalty and a yellow card for throwing the hurley, nothing given of course .
Tooreen will have to do it the hard way now, extra-time.
