While the main focus for the county is tomorrow’s National League Division One clash with Galway at Pearse Stadium – Andy Moran’s first competitive match as Mayo manager – it’s just one of three opening round League games the county is involved in then.
Like Andy, Diane O’Hora will be on the line for the first time as Mayo manager tomorrow, as her Mayo ladies team open their Division Two campaign with a match against Cavan at Breffni Park. Throw-in there is 2pm and the Anthony Marron is the ref for it.
The ticket link for the game is here and it’s being streamed live by the LGFA on YouTube (here) so I’ll embed the stream here on the blog for ease of viewing. The LGFA are also streaming it on Facebook so it might suit some to catch it there instead.
The hurlers are out of the traps a bit earlier, with their NHL Division Two opener against Laois getting underway at Adrian Freeman Park, Tooreen, at 1pm where Ciarán Regan is the ref. The ticket link for this game is here and details of Mayo’s match day panel for tomorrow are here.
Finally, just a reminder about the game in Salthill. It throws in at 1.45pm with Cork’s Conor Lane in charge of proceedings and it’s being broadcast live on TG4, with radio commentary from Midwest. We’ll have a Final Whistle pod from Pearse Stadium up on Patreon after the game.
If you haven’t yet sorted your tickets for Salthill, the ticket link for the game is here and tickets are also available in physical form from selected Centra and SuperValu outlets. In addition, I know someone who managed to buy a season ticket as recently as yesterday so that might still be an option too if it’s of interest.
The best of luck to all three Mayo teams in action this weekend.

Based on Galway team selection, I can't see this, other than being a comfortable win for Mayo. My feeling is that it's Pj's last year. So, his priority will be to have a clean bill of health come June/July and league relegation will be an issue for next year's manager. Galway supporters see this too, so I can't imagine a big home crowd. Mayo by 7 points imo.

Galway have a stronger team on paper to me to be honest . Our midfield might struggle . Going to be tight . Meant to be raining tommorow and Pearse stadium is windy in the best of times and it's Galways home ground . Hard to call it .

I know some say they don't worry about the league, but this is an important first proper game foe Andy and Co. Not the end of the world, but I would like to see us remain in Division 1.A win would be a good start for Andy, build confidence and lay down a marker, so I expect to see full commitment. Andy seems to be persisting with McBrien in midfield, which leaves us with a problem at full-back, which possibly may be filled later by McHugh. Nothing personal, but if we are relying on Brickenden there, we are in trouble-a fine footballer, but never a last line defender. He is just not tight or aggressive enough or good 1v.1,all of which are even more important under the new rules. I'd worry about Plunkett at 6 too, as I think he is more suited to wing-back. Interesting to see how the newbies get on. Whatever about the result, I want to see passion, aggression, pace, quick transition and direct play. Give it a real go.

The prep Mayo have done, training since October, warm weather week in Portugal etc means they are farther down the road in relation to preparation for this..
Although we probably are strong in our back six, we are very weak in the forwards, hence Silke starting there..
Hope the 3 young forwards do well.
Andy should get a good bounce, Mayo have a great record of new managers winning the league.
And with everyone back in the panel things look good.
Mayo by 5

Tuamstar, not falling for that one. PJ and Concannon hate Mayo and like nothing better than beating us. There is no way he will take this lightly. Apart from your win in Castlebar in the league last year where ye hammered us, there is normally nothing between the two sides. I expect the same later today too.
