There’s no National League match for the lads this weekend but the fun continues for both the hurlers and the women footballers. Here are the details of their matches.
The hurlers got off the mark last weekend in their NHL Division Two campaign when they came away from Ruislip with a share of the spoils against the Exiles. This weekend they travel north to face Derry and, with the Oak Leaf County having lost their first two matches, this is one we have to be aiming to win in our battle to survive in what is, for us, a high quality division.
The match takes place on Saturday up in Celtic Park where throw-in is 1pm. The ticket link for the game is here.
The women footballers are in action on Sunday. Once again they’re playing at home, at Swinford Amenity Park, where Tipperary provide the opposition and where throw-in is 2pm.
Diane O’Hora’s side sit third in the Division Two table after the opening two rounds – behind Tyrone and Donegal – with the Premier County in fifth spot, having won one and lost one so far. They’ve played the same two counties we have in the opening two rounds, beating Wexford in Round 1 before losing to Cavan last time out.
The ticket link for Sunday’s game is here. The match is one of seven being streamed live by the LGFA this weekend and details on how to access the live stream are here.
The best of luck to both Mayo teams this weekend.

NUIG really went out without firing a shot.
Played a very safe methodical style of football. I lost count of how many times they won a free and passed it sidewards or backwards. Beaten by the better side tonight. Their midfielder McSweeney caught the eye a real monster.
For the Mayo contingent, Tom Flaherty played decent at 11. Got on a lot of ball without much end product.
Really disappointing to see John MacMonagle only come on. I thought after his Minor year we would have a certain fullback or centre back for years to come.
Possibly curtailed by injury this year, but looks off the pace. Still has loads of time to come good and I hope he does.
Dara Hurley came on with time nearly up, didn’t get sufficient time to put his hand up.

With Maurice Sheridan in charge its no surprise NUIG played a safe methodical style of football. We saw plenty of that when he was in charge of Mayo u20 team. Scoring 1-8 in today's game won't win too many games.

I think at this stage The GAA and Croke Park ask Tsu when the games are on......
Digging out those tight games is great for teams. Well done all, particularly our bucks!

@ Clubman I can’t imagine McMonagle has regressed to be point he’s struggling to make the NUIG team. There has to be an injury of some kind involved if he’s coming on as a sub
Sam og says:
February 7, 2026 at 12:32 pm
There has always been favourtism in NUIG towards Galway footballers, seems to be the reason not many Mayo footballers go there anymore.
opt2misteek says:
February 7, 2026 at 1:01 pm
Sam og, I think you're way off the mark on that one.The manager of the NUIG team is Maurice Sheridan, and has been for years!.I've been to the Sigerson games involving NUIG and, at the risk of 'playing the man' and not the ball, I honestly thought that the player in question had played quite poorly in the games that I had seen.I think that Maurice would play the in-form players on any given day, whatever county they are from.
Jr says:
February 7, 2026 at 1:48 pm
Favoritism has no place in college teams, the players themselves know who is in form and would not stand for it.
While playing for different counties they are normally friends with each other, sometimes for life.
Ontheditch says:
February 7, 2026 at 4:33 pm
Sigerson Cup medal is the highest honour most of them will win in their lifetime playing gaelic football.
The bond between them is as strong as any county panel. They see and support each other every day of the week and as Jr says friends for life.
Stephenite says:
February 8, 2026 at 12:22 am
@SamOG unless Maurice Sheridan (who I've worked with personally) has renounced his Mayo citizenship, then I'd suggest what you're saying is absolute nonsense!!
From my knowledge of college boards and the local county team, in general they'd far rather spite each other than aim to conspire together as you're suggesting
MARTIN DONNELLAN says:
February 8, 2026 at 10:30 pm
The player in question is strong, a very complete footballer and reader of the game, maybe lacking a bit in pace, different requirements for different teams at different times...
