You often see that for replays that clubs just send in the same team sheet . Once players were the allocated numbers then all ok .
Ballina will hardly be caught on the hop that Keegan is out due to a ‘ mistimed’ tackle by one of their players

Westport straight out of blocks. Bringing huge physicality and intensity to the game. Ballina looked a bit shellshocked at times. By no means over yet but it's Wesport's to lose

Westport playing a lovely brand of football and there high pressing style is brilliant to watch no sitting back like most teams joey Holmes is a handful at full forward.

Not over yet but on here and on the various podcasts I feel like too many people made predictions this week based on pre-conceived opinions rather than actually what their eyes were telling them last week.
For 40 minutes last week, Westport savaged Ballina. And they have repeated that in the first half.
Wouldn’t say it’s over yet though, Ballina have been great champions and will have a kick left in them.

What a final! Fair play Ballina.
Westport completely froze and the two goals were fortunate enough but made all the difference.
Thought the ref favoured Westport throughout but in the last 15 minutes Ballina got every call. Perfect for the smash and grab.
Westport will be sick but well done Ballina and Evan Regan in particular
Gizmobobs says:

Possible square ball goal one (not from initial ball in from follow on), and then an obvious crossing of sideline was that in second goal?

That has to be one of the biggest collapses in a final ever. Couldn't believe what I was watching. Westport crumbled in the last 10 minutes and McLaughlin going off was a huge loss.
Ontheroad13 says:
October 25, 2025 at 4:48 pm
Weatport lost there way in the 2nd half completely reliant on frees and there attacking play went up in flames they kicked ball away in the last 5 mins when they should have held possession, 2 very lucky goals why they let regan take the free quickly just stand in front of him. Regan with the typical everyone wrote us off speech when they were favourites from the get go haha.
Roco88 says:
October 25, 2025 at 4:55 pm
I can’t believe Westport lost that match. For all of 45-50 mins it had the feeling of a tired Ballina meeting a hungry youthful Westport and it was going to be Westports title
Credit to Ballina for sticking at it but a collapse by Westport to the level I’ve never seen by any team. How Regan is free to kick the last 3 points is terrible from Westport but also incredible from Regan
TsuDhoNim says:
October 25, 2025 at 5:00 pm
@Gizmobobs: Absolute certain square ball for Dylan's goal. The Ballina lads went straight into the square as soon as the 45 was kicked, forgetting the rule is different from dead balls and the ball has to enter the square before they can. They got lucky that the officials seemed to forget too.
Some finish to the game. Absolute box office stuff and nerves of absolute steel from Evan.

TsuDhoNim so the most significant injury in the outcome could be James Regan and not the one to Keegan :)

Absolutely Rocco, for 48 minutes Ballina were so bad. 7 points they had on the board. They were getting wiped in midfield. Callinan could have been subbed he was so bad. Regan bar the first two pointer wasn't involved. Westport savaged them. Then McLaughlin went off and Regan got a quick goal and all of a sudden Ballina turned into a completely different team, cleaned up at midfield and walked through the middle. If there were 5 more minutes I reckon Ballina could have tacked on 5 more points they had such momentum. Absolutely mental stuff.
Ultair says:

O'Hora going off had the look of a beaten man. Westport absolutely blew that one. Ballina gave away some very soft breaches and frees in the second-half. Eoghan Mac going off injured took the wind out of their sails as he was the man in the engine room all afternoon. Westport looked ragged in defence at the end, may have emptied the tank too early. Regan needed close minding at the end but he had just enough space to send them volleys over. Absolutely the player of the championship for the last three seasons. Congrats to Ballina, commiserations to Westport.

Credit where it is due ballina showed huge character to achieve a very impressive 3 in a row. Strange to say but over 60 minutes I feel the better team lost but that’s how it goes sometimes.
Thin margins made all the difference over the two games. If you were from Westport you would have to question how ballina first goal was not a square ball given last weeks tough decisions. Not sure where mr Connelly found an extra minute and half for the last score but credit Regan for nailing it.
Injury to Mcloughin the turning point, and ultimately the 13m free missed shout by kilkelly early in the second half proved extremely costly. Something told me in my gut it would be Ballina’s day after that drop short free despite them being 8 down at that time.
After Regans speech you’d expect ballina to go on and battle for a Connaught championship but they will need to be better then they were today.

October 25, 2025 at 5:29 pm
Was that not a clear square ball?
Strange decision to give it the referee didn't even check with his umpires. Seemed to be swayed by the momentum at the end there.
Case to be made for non-county referees for championship games. Do a ref swap with Galway... Albeit they might not be too happy!
Westport be sick. But they weren't helped.
Gizmobobs says:
October 25, 2025 at 5:37 pm
Extremely clear one I'd have thought Mandarin, as was the crossing of the sideline and the quick free from wrong place, although the exact rule on that I'm slightly unclear of.

I was mighty impressed with Eoghan McLaughlin today. Generally I’d question his skill level and sometimes the timing of his tackling but he brought real physicality, aggression and athleticism to proceedings
OHora whether it was because of his importance to Ballina or some retribution for last week, was the focus of a lot of attention from Westport and more often than not it was McLaughlin dishing it out.
I found it odd too OHora walking down the tunnel and not going up to the stand. I wonder did he feel like he got a lack of back up from his teammates. I mean the type of backup Donie Vaughan and Jason Doherty used the dish out in Mayo shirts

Very tough on Eoghan McLaughlin after another excellent performance.Must be very close to Club Player of the year. Fair play to Ballina as three in a row is a huge task.

Thought the ref was poor when it mattered most. I don’t think he favoured Westport at all although it’s possible Eogan picked the ball off the ground before his excellent pass to set up the goal. The Irwin point was a 50 50 call, probably had to defer to the umpires but the biggest call of all was not giving Holmes a blatant penalty. The 2nd Ballina goal was definitely a square ball when it went in.
That said Regan was nothing short of heroic today. Quick thinking for the first goal, nailed the levelling 2 pointer on the loop from wrong side into the wind, following up with the winner and bagged 3 more from play in the 1st half (Ona a 2 pointer). That’s ignoring frees.
Clare says:
October 26, 2025 at 4:05 am
Ah now here ones saying the ref was poor and square poor ball stuff is ridiculous can yiou not say congrats Ballina for that comeback .
Don't think anyone in Balina will care what ones say tonight though . There is some party atmosphere , cars beeping all through the town and beyond in Ballina tonight . Weather you love or hate Ballina that was a class finish like Kerry they know how to win when it matters most . Delighted .
Unstoppable says:
October 26, 2025 at 9:14 am
There you go again Clare.
It’s perfectly fine to question some dubious calls in a county final that was won by a point after a replay.
No one is saying that Ballina don’t deserve great credit but at the end of the day, two teams were involved and it’s ok for the other team to be sour about the outcome.
Clare says:
October 26, 2025 at 12:21 pm
@ustoppble
I don't get that so I put an opposite argument and it's ' there you again clare ' not saying not questiable .. though your disliking Ballins great comeback . Fair westport ran out of gas maybe , ref made bad calls maybe , and that thsy only won by a point .. ( all exsuces )
Jeez Ballina had a sensational win & comeback we all thought it was done. Westport mamager celebrating just before Regan got the goal.
It's called debate man.
Just say fair play and best of luck I will say hard luck westport and they will come again. For you to say there you again clare is silly I've always supported ballina and will call out noncense statements against them like yours.
Willie Joe says:
October 26, 2025 at 12:40 pm

Gizmobobs says:
October 26, 2025 at 1:22 pm
Don't think there's much to debate about those poor calls that went Ballinas way e.g. sideline ball, square ball etc.
Ballina won't care, and Westport still shouldn't have let that lead go despite those calls Ballina deserve credit for sticking at it. Keegans loss in the last 10 minutes was surely key, hopefully the way he was injured in first game won't be last we see of him.
