The weekend’s matches

The weekend’s matches

It’s time to look ahead to the coming weekend and to the Mayo-related matches taking place then. As usual, we’ll tackle them in the order that they’re set to be played.

The action starts on Friday evening, when the county’s U20 footballers take on Louth in the All-Ireland semi-final. Pearse Park in Longford is the venue for this game and throw-in is 7pm.

TG4 are showing the game live but only online (here) and on their app, it’s not on their YouTube channel. They’re also showing it in full later on Friday night on their TV channel, starting at 10.15pm. Midwest will have live radio commentary on the game as well.

The ticket link for the game is here and hopefully we’ll muster significant support at Pearse Park for it. We’ll need to be because supporters of the Wee County are on a major high at the moment and they’re sure to bring a huge crowd to Longford on Friday evening.

Onto Saturday, where the hurlers are back in Rackard Cup action. With four wins from their four outings to date, the lads have already done enough to qualify for the final and so Saturday’s Round 5 meeting with Fermanagh at Brewster Park in Enniskillen (throw-in 2pm) represents a free hit from our perspective.

The Erne County have, by contrast, lost all four matches they’ve played but they’re still battling to avoid relegation down to Lory Meagher status for next year so they’ve something to play for in Saturday’s game. The ticket link for it is here.

On Sunday, the footballers have their All-Ireland SFC Group Stage Round 1 match against Cavan. Hastings Insurance MacHale Park is the venue for this game, where throw-in is 2.30pm.

This game isn’t being shown live on TV nor is it being streamed on GAA+ either so, if you’re not heading to it, the live radio commentary on Midwest is the only option for following it. If you do plan on going, the ticket link for it is here and the link for the Group Stage three-match package, which is good value at €50, is here.

If all that’s not enough for you, there are also plenty of club matches on over the weekend, the details of which are here.

The best of luck to all three Mayo teams in action this weekend.

Does anyone know if you can buy tickets for the under 20s match in Supervalu?

I don't know for sure, Eddie, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't. They're being sold online via the same Ticketmaster platform as all other inter-county games so they should be available too. If anyone can confirm this, please shout!

They shops weren't selling them for the Minor final weirdly enough so I wouldn't be so sure...at least my locals weren't.

The Minor tickets are sold via the Universe platform (also part of Ticketmaster, by the way) and not the main Ticketmaster platform for GAA tickets so that might explain why they're not available in the shops. There's only one way to find out, I guess.

On the "fore" issue, there is, of course, a website with all the background:https://ghostgolf.com/blogs/news/why-do-golfers-yell-fore#:~:text=In%20simple%20terms%2C%20yelling%20%E2%80%9Cfore,those%20nearby%20should%20stay%20alert.

Is anyone else having problems with Ticketmaster trying to order under 20 semi final tickets

@ Rober. I got a ticket using the link WJ supplied. Had to enter my own Ticketmaster account details but no problem buying the ticket.

I had no problems either, Rober. I was in my season ticket account getting the three-match package and got the U20 ticket at the same time without any issues.

@Rober: If you can give a little more detail on where in the path you're hitting a problem someone might be able to help troubleshoot.

The UX isn't great on the site, but no obvious bottleneck I've noticed. The least intuitive step is probably when adding tickets to your cart it doesn't prompt you to take the next step, it just adds a number to the cart in the top right corner. At that point it expects the user to know to click the cart and continue to checkout.

In terms of things to try:
- Use a different browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge)
- Use a different device (phone, desktop, a different one of either)
- If using an odd mix of tickets outside of just 1 or 2 adult (e.g. OAP + 5 juvenile) try a slightly different mix
- (Shouldn't be a factor, but if trying to rule everything out try using a different Ticketmaster account)

Hopefully, we’ll see some of our lads back from injury and back in action this weekend, which would be a big boost for the squad. A strong performance could go a long way in rebuilding confidence.

A win for the U20s tonight would be the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

Looking ahead to the Galway vs. Dublin showdown, I wouldn’t write off that Dublin forward line if they hit form. Galway’s defense—much like Dublin’s—might not be as solid as some expect, so we could be in for a high-scoring thriller.

"The UX isn’t great on the site" is a most generous statement. For a global platform, it's an absolute shambles - the GAA must have the bargain bucket version. The only blessing is that fees aren't charged.

Looks like might will be a small enough Mayo crowd in Longford tonight. Anyone heading up/down/over?

Healy Park has capacity of 17000. Likely to be our decisive game. We need to get supporters there, and buy up tickets rapidly.
