This is just a quick confirmation of what’s on (and not on) from a Mayo perspective over the coming days.
As you’re probably aware by now, this is our bye week in the Connacht U20 football Championship so we’re not in action this evening. The two games that are on feature Leitrim against Sligo and Galway at home to Roscommon.
That latter one, by the way, is laced with a fair bit of jeopardy. Galway, whose final round game this is, need to win to avoid elimination (current table is here) so that should add some spice to this evening’s exchanges at Tuam Stadium.
From what I can see, there doesn’t appear to be any live stream available for the game, though if you fancy taking a spin down the road to Tuam for it, the ticket link is here.
On Friday evening the county’s Minors will be looking to get their provincial campaign back on track when they play Sligo. This match throws in at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park at 6.30pm. It’s being streamed live by Connacht GAA (details here – it’s €11.99 for access to the live stream) and the ticket link for it is here.
The Senior lads – for the first time in four weeks – don’t have a competitive match this coming weekend, as they gear up for the following weekend’s Conancht SFC semi-final against Leitrim. This nice week-on, week-off rhythm will then, should we win at Páirc Seán on Easter Saturday, be maintained ahead of the Connacht final. But, hey, let’s stick to one game at a time.
The county’s hurlers are, however, in action as they begin their Rackard Cup campaign. After their NHL Division 3 title win and, with it, promotion to Division 2 for next year, the lads will, I’m sure, be targeting silverware in a competition they’ve won twice, most recently in 2021.
Their opening Rackard Cup fixture takes place on Saturday, where Roscommon provide the opposition. Throw-in at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park is 3pm and the ticket link for the game is here.
There are also several club fixtures taking place across the county this weekend. For those interested in catching one (or more) of these games, a complete list of all the weekend’s matches is here.

0-14 to 1-11 FT. Galway got a last-second two-pointer to level it. It’s just a stay of execution for them, though, as Roscommon have Leitrim game to come next week so they’ll definitely overhaul Galway then. Sligo are nine up on Leitrim this evening with only a few minutes left so they’re guaranteed to finish ahead of Galway, regardless of how our final round game with them goes.

Is it head to head rule if two teams equal on points ?
Cp says:

Yes but If it’s Roscommon and Galway it’d be score difference due to the draw

Sligo can get same points and would get top spot through head to head if they beat us , am I correct in saying that ?

Yeah, think so,

@Sean Burke: Yup.
- We take top with a draw or a win (if we lose, Sligo take 1st)
- Ourselves & Sligo both guaranteed a semi-final spot at worst
- Roscommon take the other semi-final spot with a draw or win against Leitrim (Galway will take it on score difference if Roscommon lose)

Roscommon have improved a lot. They looked good tonight in Tuam. Hope our bucks are fully tuned in now over the coming weeks. Zero room for complacency. It caught them badly 3 years ago.

Galway were very wasteful.
Roscommon lad should have put the ball over the bar at the end.
I was really impressed with Galway against Mayo, cut through for goals, does it sound familiar..
We need hatchet men in the center, all winners have them.

Watched the Galway Vs Roscommon U20. A few very good individual players on the Galway team, very impressed with O Connor at 7 but as a team it's a shocking series of results. Roscommon were good but if Galway took their chances Roscommon would have been well beaten which is similar to the 1 point loss to Sligo with again a very wasteful performance by our lads. I would have to question the structure of the Galway set up and the whole U20 instead of old U21.

Roscommon U20s had missed chances also @chesneychet especially two big goal chances 2nd half the latter one would have put 5 points between the sides going into added time. I'm not sure what Galway got that two pointer for to level the game?
Decision making let Galway's U20s down in the Sligo game, had a tap over free late on to take the lead and the player decided to chance his luck with a two pointer and missed it and from the next attack Sligo kicked the winner.

@MO2023: Roscommon had a 3 up breach (under a black card at the time, so potentially forgot the relatively recent change where you still need to keep 3 up & play 10v11 at the back).

Yes, terrible decision making against Sligo but left 3 goals behind them against Roscommon too. They would improve with more games but won't get the chance now unless Leitrim beat Roscommon, possible but unlikely. Derek Savage doing himself no favours for a tilt at senior team if PJ steps down after this year's All Ireland win.
