The weekend’s games

The weekend’s games

We’re heading into St Patrick’s weekend and we’ve got two important matches to look forward to from the county’s perspective.

Let’s start, though, by confirming what’s not on. The hurlers have this weekend off before their final round NHL Division Three game away to Wicklow the following weekend. They need to avoid defeat in that match at Aughrim to make the divisional final.

There’s no LGFA action this weekend either. The ladies’ NFL Division One Round 6 match at home to Kildare is on the following Saturday.

This Sunday sees the men’s football team travel to Celtic Park in Derry for an Allianz League Division One Round 6 meeting with the Oak Leaf County. The match throws in that afternoon at 1.30pm and it’s being shown live on TG4. The ticket link for it is here.

Then, with the greatest of respect to Kevin McStay’s charges, the main event of the long weekend takes place at Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day.

This is when St Colman’s College Claremorris take on St Patrick’s Maghera in the All-Ireland Post-Primary School final, where the celebrated Hogan Cup is on offer to the winners. Throw-in for this game is 1pm on Monday.

It’s a double-header that day at GAA HQ, with the hurling final, in which Athenry and Thurles will be vying for possession of the Croke Cup, getting underway at 3pm.

Both of the colleges finals are being shown live on TG4. The ticket link for this double-header is here.
