Isn't it, T2S? After the acclaim that both O"Donoghue and McNally received after the game, it has a real bang of "back in your box" about it.

Maybe a few of the older lads' noses are out of joint because McNally showed up some of their own performances in his first final, no less. It's very undermining of one of their own and I don't remember hearing such commentary previously. Certainly not in 2014 or 2016, for instance.

Maybe they feel it was a legitimate criticism, and as supporters, we are likely to be somwhat sensitive to criticism after years of ridicule but either way, it should.never have reached the media. Poor form.

Hopefully Ryan laughs it off, because that's the only response it merits.

They should look at what David Clifford did just before the shoulder from O'Donoghue and for his goal. Pushed a player straight into the face with his hand.

I don't recall referees claiming John Small should have been sent off for the disgraceful challenge that left Eoghan McLaughlin with a broken jaw in the 21 semifinal.
In fact I don't ever remember a leaking of review findings previously. The whole thing comes across as sleazy and unprofessional.

I can understand everyone here being annoyed with the ref committee's findings, especially because McNally himself was not in attendance. But to think that this is all some Kerry-led conspiracy, and that Kerry have not given us due credit for the win? Come on, lads.

Neither of those two men had a reputation for giving us credit before now.

And that's before we mention the thousands of Kerry supporters who stayed in the ground right through the presentation to acknowledge their opponents' victory. We know better than anyone how difficult it is to do that after losing a final.

Let's be honest and maybe Jack O Connor needs to stop complaining.

Mayo should have beaten Kerry out the gate in the final, was really an 8 point win or more, had at least one of the goal chances were scored and maybe 3 or 4 more points that were very narrowly wide.

Kerry just could not match Mayo's intensity but Mayo had also more in the tank in the closing minutes.

I think we should ignore noise like this and know that we have Sam. Previously people would have lamented that we were too nice but our boys were like warriors that day nobody more so than Ryan. We were not dirty however but we were teek tough.

It was not visible on TV.
It really knocked the stuffing out of Clifford.
When teams do this to Mayo it is called knowing how to win.

When the Dubs pulled us down en masse at the final kick out in 2017 they were lauded as having the ruthless winners streak we lacked. RO’D and Coyne both played on the edge at times and in order to win you need that. In fairness the Kerry lads never made anything of it afterwards, they know the score.

But Mayo's list dropped to 10, when Diarmaid O'Connor stepped into the team to replace the injured Stephen Coen.
That means that one of the official list of four standby players named in the match programme, would have been promoted to the subs bench, to replace O'Connor.

The four standby players named were, Seamus Howard, Fergal Boland, John McMonagle and James Carr.

I think the internal review of referee remains confidential. Well the underlying review scores and detailed assessments remained confidential. so I'm puzzled why this one decision, released now. And if we are releasing this, then full report should be released for every GAA match. David Gough in the 2024 Connacht final, said in interview that free awarded against Conor Loftus was not a free. No review released by referee review committee, it was done by David Gough himself in interview. So either release this review fully to public, or we stop cherry picking decisions that suit.

To beat Kerry or the Dubs in a final is very special.

Expect a refocus for all counties next year.

The belief Mayo gave to other counties will be huge.
Beating Kerry in a final is a great tonic for Mayo.

If the ref had seen that he would have had a decision to make and we may not have liked it.

You could see some kind of clash but it didn’t look like a blatant belt. Kennelly’s crime was in full view of the camera with the ref a few metres away and as cynical as they come, the biggest cop out by a ref ever so they shouldn’t be bad mouthing Ryan long after the game and it supposed to be confidential. Despite being aggressive in tackling Ryan hasn’t even gotten many yellows, he may play near the line sometimes but not over it. Likewise Flynn who was card prone early days for Mayo and has tempered his discipline a lot. Most teams would love to have Ryan OD.

Re Kerry so called moaning, the contributors on here have alway been gracious as was any Kerry person I met afterwards and the array of pundits some of whom wrote us off including TOS even wrote all comers off. Fitzmaurice was exemplary in his game commentary. All of them were generous in praise afterwards as was Jack OC who I have a lot more respect for in the last few years. If it was Padraic Joyce you could be almost sure there’d be gripes aired but he’s Galway’s problem not ours. Ye didn’t hear much moaning from us when Dublin dragged all our players down in 2017. We even got denied victory by a ref via a technical foul by Bastick in the last play of the 2016 drawn game. I wonder what refs panel thought of that one and we were completely robbed vs Meath in Croker circa 2009/2010. No mention of that, the Sunday game panel may have covered the injustices for that. All said Refs are human not robots so mistakes are made (McNally missed a few extra hops by both teams one leading to a point for us but so did the crowd in the stadium). All told the game was the right result with a hugely positive reaction countrywide and there was very little cynical play on view.

To be fair to them, I don't think Kerry people are responsible for what the referees said in what was apparently meant to be a private forum. I agree with MayotillIdie, and you'd wonder who leaked that discussion to John Fogarty, who I'd say was (rightly) thrilled with what is a great scoop. I'd say some Kerry people are even a bit irritated by this, because they will feel complaining about a refereeing decision is beneath them.

But as hard as it is to remember in the heat of the reaction, it doesn't matter. Not a jot. Ryan wasn't sent off. We went and we won the feckin' All-Ireland. Nothing else in the world really matters, for the 2026 season at least.

And the narrative around our win was bound to shift a bit once the initial romance and euphoria started to wear off. Kerry had an off-day. Mayo pulled off a once-off performance, but they won't manage it again. They just got lucky on the day. They're celebrating too hard. Etc. etc. etc.

Let me repeat: none of it matters. It's our instinct to defend our lion-hearted Ryan, his colleagues and to try and maintain the integrity of the win too. I think we have spent so many years feeling incredibly sensitive to both some of the refereeing mistakes that have affected us and and to people saying derogatory things about us, that it's natural to continue to feel a bit wounded in the face of any kind of negativity or detraction, but everything has changed now. And we will need to toughen up a bit as a result (I include myself in this).

Because in this brave new world we now inhabit, we are no longer outliers. We are in the pack, albeit as members of an elite group: All-Ireland winners. We will be judged more harshly, as winners can be. We won't be people's second favourite team anymore. People won't be willing us on because "wouldn't it be great if they just won it once". We will be criticised like the Kerrys and the Dublins if we don't perform. And if we don't back up this year's heroics with another good season, we may hear the phrase "flash in the pan".

For the record, I don't think this will happen. I think Andy and some of those lads - particularly the ones that didn't make the 26 - will still feel they have a point to prove, well into next year and beyond, to really rubber-stamp this win. I do expect us to push on and to remain highly competitive.

Maybe Ryan did get away with a bad challenge. Maybe Jack Coyne was lucky to stay on the pitch for 70 minutes. But there are very few people who could realistically argue that we weren't due a bit of luck. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is that we have our hands on the cup, and that's where we - supporters and team - are rightly focusing our attention for now.

Mayo has Sam Maguire doing the rounds making sure every person in the County can get to see & touch the great Cup. I've done it two weeks ago & by God it was beyond fantastic, the
Mayo captain & players are a credit to Mayo, to their Families & their clubs, absolutely brilliant. I just feel so good about Mayo winning the 2026 All Ireland, it has lifted my mood forever.

Someone leaking from the meeting a cause for concern.
The framing of what was reviewed being so one sided suggests a vested interest in the person sharing the story (most likely & probable) or more worryingly a vested interest being pushed at the actual meeting.

At no point is any of that on the journalist that happens to break the story. Especially when it's one who so frequently and accurately is breaking big GAA stories.

Whatever is going on on with the referees or should I say "referee" is not acceptable, in no way should one incident regarding one player be tolerated & then published in such a manner by a sports journalist with no mention of who said what, a touch of gutter press reporting by a so called good journalist? No need to wonder. Not a chance. Any journalist worth their salt would be more than willing to take any step necessary to protect a source like that. It'd be Rule 1, Day 1 kinda stuff for any aspiring journo.

Nothing gutter press about the reporting. Not one the GAA, the referees association or Mayo fans who don't like Ryan's name being involved are happy seeing. Though that's a mile from one a publication or a journalist shouldn't print.

It's an insightful piece that shows a glimpse behind a curtain, though from a vested interest lens of someone trying to paint Kerry in a positive light and Mayo in a negative one (we could list off quite a number of fouls the other direction including a stone wall black or a possible red - thankfully there's just no need when there's a lovely winning speech to rewatch instead), we don't normally get to see.

I’d say the refs will now be far more concerned with who leaked confidential information to a journalist and I doubt it’ll take a rocket scientist to figure it out. They must be bulling about the breach but process of elimination will likely weed out the perpetrator..
