The Mayo Football Podcast and EirGrid join forces for Club Stars awards

Former Footballer of the Year Lee Keegan said he was ‘delighted and honoured’ to launch The Mayo Football Podcast Club Stars awards in association with EirGrid.

The legendary five-time All-Star winner was speaking at today’s announcement that the popular GAA awards night will be making its long-awaited return on Friday, December 13th.

The Mayo Club Stars awards were last held after the 2019 club football championship season, but the esteemed event is being revived this season by the team behind The Mayo Football Podcast.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place in Knockranny House Hotel, Westport when the cream of the county’s football talent, and some of the GAA’s biggest names, will be honoured.

“We’re really excited about the prospect of bringing back the Club Stars awards,” said Mike Finnerty of The Mayo Football Podcast.

“I saw first-hand for 15 years that there’s a huge appetite among the Mayo footballing public for the Club Stars awards and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the players, volunteers and teams that make the GAA great.

“We’re looking forward to working with the main sponsors, EirGrid, and all our category sponsors to put on the best show possible.

“We’re also going to be raising funds for our charity partners, Down Syndrome Mayo, and doing all we can to raise awareness of the great work they are doing.”

Speaking ahead of the launch, Sinéad Dooley, Head of Public Engagement, EirGrid said: “At EirGrid we are committed to powering progress as we work to achieve our climate ambitions and ensure that the country has a reliable and sustainable source of energy, so communities can prosper and grow.

“We are delighted to be main sponsor of this year’s Club Stars’ awards. This new partnership aligns with our commitment to community engagement in Mayo and on the North Connacht 110kV project. Our on-the-ground work with communities often brings us into contact with local GAA clubs, so we know just how important these clubs are in communities.

“We look forward to recognising the commitment and dedication of players and volunteers in many communities across the county at the awards on December 13th next.”

“Tickets will be going on sale next weekend and we’re expecting a huge crowd to join us at Knockranny House on Friday, December 13th for the awards ceremony, a magnificent meal, and an evening of craic agus ceol!,” added Mike Finnerty.

The Club Stars Team of the Year and Players of the Year will be announced on the night, while the Manager of the Year, Hall of Fame recipient, Personality of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year will also be presented with their awards.

A number of Special Achievement award winners will also be honoured. Tickets for the awards event will go on sale this coming weekend.

No chance he'll do a "Murphy" and reignite the county campaign, I suppose. Just shows how managers have evaluated the new rules with Jim McGuiness leading the way in his inimitable style. Only for the two points outside the arc, I'm fairly sure Big Murphy would have remained unavailable.

I think there is nothing in the new rules to stop teams from having 12 players inside their own 45. Very few players can kick a point from outside the 45. Therefore, the Michael Murphys and David Clifford's of this world could still be marked or swarmed by 3 or 4 players.
