Séamus Tuohy RIP

Séamus Tuohy RIP

The very sad news broke a short time ago that Séamus Tuohy, Chairman of Mayo GAA, has died. The Breaffy clubman had been ill for some time and passed away unexpectedly yesterday.

A longtime employee of the HSE, Séamus gave a lifetime of service to Breaffy and to Mayo GAA. As well as serving as chairman of Breaffy’s Bord na nOg and at West Mayo Board level, he served in numerous capacities for Mayo GAA, including as vice-chairman, chairman of Bord na nÓg and chair of the CCC, before being elected County Board Chairman in 2021.

He was instrumental in the appointment of Mayo’s first-ever CEO earlier this year and was a driving force behind the ongoing development of Mayo’s Centre of Excellence in Bohola. He was at Croke Park in his official capacity in July to see his beloved Mayo finally capture the Sam Maguire after a 75-year wait.

Statement from Mayo GAA on the passing of Séamus Tuohy is here.

Mayo County Council’s civic reception for the victorious Mayo team and management planned for this Friday evening has been postponed as a mark of respect. Funeral arrangements are here.

Sincere condolences to Séamus’s family, friends and the wider Mayo GAA community on their profound loss.

R.I.P.
Small solace to his bereaved family but Seamus will forever be etched in Mayo GAA history as not only being the Chairman of Mayo GAA when we finally ended the 75 year wait, but Seamus was also instrumental in pushing through for our first ever CEO, also the works on the Mayo GAA center of excellence in Bohola, and, taking the tough but brave decision to end McStays reign for the inexperience and risk of the untried Andy Moran. We all know how that has gone so far.
It is only football and may well be insignificant to his family at this moment in time, but, that is one hell of a legacy to leave behind you.
Mayo GAA is in a far, far better place because of Seamus' dedication, vision and work.
May he Rest In Peace.

That is spot on Pebbles - word perfect.

I didn’t know Seamus personally, but he was very well known to my wider family, and when I heard the sad news yesterday, it felt like a huge blow.

As you say, his legacy will be enduring.

Lovely lead post there John.

Rest in peace Seamus. As Pebbles said maybe it’s not much consolation to his family right now, but in time they will look back with pride on all his achievements. The main one being overseeing the delivery of Sam. Glad he got to see it, just a pity he isn’t around a bit longer to enjoy it.
