Bob Tuohy was brilliant. Hennelly’s kickouts second half were erratic but he made some saves. We need to assure our defense, get coyne and mchugh back. Good win

Good win on the road, and we dug it out to secure the two points, which was the most important thing. This was far from a Galway B team and far from a Mayo A team. I thought our standout performers were Robbie, Bob, Sam and Ryan. I’d like to see Tommy play a bit deeper, as I think he does his best work when he’s running from deep. Some of the newer players also made very impressive cameos. On to Dublin next week — this game will be long forgotten by mid-February.

It didn’t happen for Conroy today however he won a lot of ball, nearly always got in front of his man. When his scoring form comes back he’ll be lethal. We should persist with him there.

Did Hennelly get a chest to that thunderbolt in the first half too ,that came back off the woodwork? For anyone behind that goal. Incredible save if he did,he could have taken it full in the face.

Best I've ever seen Bob Tuohy play. He was immense. But Hennelly won that game for us, and I'm delighted for him and for us.

Never easy, never straightforward, but Galway were never going to lie down and let us win by that margin. If we hadn't given ourselves such a buffer, it might have been different, but we had enough to spare. We found our composure at the end to turn it back around. There are days we would have lost that game. Today we didn't.

Far from perfect, lots of improvement needed at the back, but now is the time to be making those mistakes, with players like McHugh and Coyne still to return. We were unfortunate to lose McGreal and I hope it's not serious.

If you'd told me this morning we'd be heading home with a three-point win against Galway in Salthill in the bag, in Andy's first competitive game, by god, I'd have bitten the hand clean off you and gone back for the other one.

Well ! As I always tell my Cork friends... Mayo are always entertaining! Hennelly very good but kickouts must improve! Tuohy was impressive and Conroy looked a bit rusty but future is bright. and please lads...don't take your foot off the pedal. not good for my ticker!!

Hahaha, typical Mayo , joyous, to crazy , full heart checks complete and its only January .

Forwards motoring, full back line at sea but alot of positives to take.
And best is we can control and fix the weakness . Putting Conor Loftus , McBrien and a fit Paddy Durcan and or Conal Dawson into that defence and we be whole lot better .
But as always with Mayo maximum entertainment, love the connection and enthusiasm from the Managament team and desire shown from players , desire to win ball and to show off their skills and shooting ability , so great stuff , fix fullback line and away we go

A good win. Hennelly had a great game. We still take the foot off the throat. Lots to learn especially at the back. Are we still a bit weak at centre field. A good start and we will improve.

Outside of the Boot - don’t forget about Donnacha McHugh and Jack Coyne either they’ve been our two most consistent defenders over the past few seasons. We will likely see changes in personnel in our defence by the time the championship comes around.

I was beginning to give up on bob tuohy but he was excellent today.i still think mcbrien is better suited to a defensive role .always good to get a win against the old enemy no matter what the circumstances.

A marvellous hours entertainment. Happy enough with that.

Positive brand of go forward football played and 3-18 is serious scoring any day of the week.

RoD at 11 is the way forward, ran the show from there. Young darragh beirne took his chance well and touhy had his best game in a mayo shirt.

Under no illusions that Galway were missing 8/9 frontline players including their entire midfielders but happy with a win, a big score and newcomers impressing.

For motm. Will give young beirne the nod just ahead of Hennelly and tuohy.

1. Beirne
2. Touhy
3. Hennelly

Mayo were fitter and way more efficient up front.
Hennelly actually looks like a big addition.
Tommy Conroy needs games.
Hope the corner back is OK, not nice on your first day out

From our side Fionn McDonagh looks like he has something and Mulhern with some lovely passes so will improve

Some good performances. Good to win but somewhat tempered by the fact that Galway have a lot more to come back than we do. And they had 10 good goal chances in that game. But somehow only scored 2 of them.

Hennelly motm by a mile I thought. Kicked 2 pointers and made at least 3 or 4 good saves.

Rob Hennelly. A few great saves when Galway smelled blood. Two pointers too.
G'man Rob, welcome back.

Ryan was exceptional, defensively and attacking today. We'd be in serious bother without him.

It was an enjoyable game but Galway were all at sea at midfield. With Darcy, Maher, Tierney, Conroy back around that area it should shore it up. I thought we played well at times but Mayo look like they are ahead on training and fitness with Walsh and Finnerty in particular looking ring rusty and Sean Kelly shouldnt be in midfield. I thought Hennelly was excellent with the 2 pointers and saved 2-3 certain goals but we were getting through easy enough so plenty to work on for Mayo too. Fionn played very well as did Mulhern, Much to work on but it looks like Joyce has unearthed a few more players. Ryan O Donoghoe really drove Mayo on when it looked like we had gotten on top and seemed to be all over the pitch, he is a huge player for Mayo.
