It was a tough afternoon for Andy Moran’s Mayo who were always second best to a Donegal side that eased to an eight-point win over the visitors at O’Donnnell Park in Letterkenny.
The overall Player of the Match today wasn’t, of course, wearing Green and Red but the purpose of the POTM poll is to identify those players who performed best for us on any given day, regardless of the outcome.
As ever, you have three votes to cast in the POTM poll. So which Mayo players get your votes in this POTM poll?
Will we beat the Rossies on Sunday?
- Yes (69%, 513 Votes)
- No (31%, 234 Votes)
Total Voters: 747

Sam Callinan one of few bright spots today. Great to see Loftus back, he gave a good account of himself. I like Beirne, but he needs more aggression with those goal chances. Still, he chipped in with 2 points.
The confusion over who will take frees between ROD and Rob looks bad. Do they not sort this out before the game?

Conor Loftus . More game time into him and he will have to be a starter fair play to him .

Was there a player of the match for Mayo. We did not expect to win this one and we got what we wished for. No aggression. No mobility. No game plan. Hopefully we will learn from it but not a good day. Only positive is that a reality check is better now than later in the year. Lack of aggression is a worry.

A harsh reality check, which is no harm, shows us where we are, which is light years behind the top teams, and should take some of the glare of the rose tinted glasses. We were a bit better second half, but, in reality, we were abysmal. Donegal were better in every aspect, quicker, more aggressive, more composed and more clinical. In contrast, we were slow, passive, coughed up possession cheaply, performed the basics poorly, bad wides and the usual goal chances butchered. Only real positive was having Conor back and he looked really sharp and up for it-he is such a natural footballer.

The result today was as expected. Donegal are top 3 side and we are off that level..we haven't been top 8 really for last two years. AL QF and a connacht title would be a good year for us. QF I expect but not sure about connacht.
In context of league a win next week very important as its a very competitive division with only Monaghan not at the level.

I thought it was another good day for Bob Touhy.Winning ball in MF up there is not easy and he scored as well.
For me he has shown alot of progress this year 3 good games

Surprised Tuohy polling so low. He went well against an absolutely top class midfield unit today, as good as in the country so he a clear number 1 for me with Callinan and Loftus the next best.
Men against boys today though. I continue to have huge reservations about the quality of our attack when it comes up against the very top teams. Big lack of raw pace up there too.

Great insight Clare, your knowledge of the game is top notch! Few good things from a handful of players. Rebuilding all the way to connacht final..

Hennellys performance probably goes unnoticed - really good from the short restarts today.
Sam Callinan continuing his fine form. It’s absolutely fantastic to see his revival.
Beirne again showing his promise.
Loftus very good off the bench and Paddy tried hard.
Would expect we will see Morahan/ McHale/ Kobe/ McBrien back in the mix for Monaghan
Once we get to six points it’s time to see Livingstone get a run between the sticks.

Needed a lesson to see where we are at. This reality check hurts today but tells us what we need to become and where to focus. New lads will benefit greatly from this. This will stand to us in the summer but we need a few years to catch a Donegal. We are on an upward curve, remember where Donegal were 3 years ago. I'm hoping Andy is our Messiah, only time will tell !!

Great to see Conor Loftus back. He had a huge impact and deserves MOTM.
