The LGFA’s inter-county season is getting underway this coming weekend where, for the first time in as long as anyone can remember, Mayo will be playing their National League football in Division 2.
The county’s League campaign starts up at Breffni Park on Sunday where Cavan provide the opposition and where throw-in is fixed for 2pm. The match is being streamed live by the LGFA on Facebook and YouTube and the ticket link for the game is here.
Mayo’s other fixtures in Division 2 this year are as follows (home team named first and all venues to be confirmed later):
- ROUND 2: Mayo v Wexford, Sunday 1st February, 2pm
- ROUND 3: Mayo v Tipperary, Sunday 8th Februrary, 2pm
- ROUND 4: Tyrone v Mayo, Sunday 22nd February, 2pm
- ROUND 5: Mayo v Donegal, Sunday 1st March, 2pm
- ROUND 6: Westmeath v Mayo, Sunday 22nd March, 2pm
- ROUND 7: Mayo v Monaghan, Sunday 29th March, 1pm
Following a difficult few years, 2026 is set to be a season of renewal for the Mayo ladies, who are now managed by former All-Ireland winning captain Diane O’Hora.
Anyone who heard the new manager speaking with Mike on the podcast recently couldn’t but be impressed with the preparatory work that has already been put in ahead of the new season nor with Diane’s determination to steer the county’s fortunes back on an upward trajectory once more.
Details of the Senior panel for the National League were also announced recently and are available here. Ella Brennan will captain the team this year and included in the 37-player panel are a number of players involved in previous years, including Fiona McHale as well as Sinéad and Lisa Cafferkey.
Two former Mayo captains, Kathryn Sullivan and Saoirse Lally, will not, however, be involved in 2026. The former has retired from inter-county action after many years of sterling service while the latter is stepping back from the fray this year.
