It was one win from two for the Mayo teams in Championship action over the weekend, with the Minors advancing to an All-Ireland semi-final meeting with Kerry while the women’s team lost to the Kingdom in their opening round Group Stage match.
Here’s some of the online coverage of these games, starting with the Minors’ win over Offaly yesterday. There are reports on that one in Western People, Connaught Telegraph, Mayo News, Offaly Independent, Offaly Express, Irish Independent, Irish Examiner, Irish Times and GAA.
We also recorded a Final Whistle pod at Dr Hyde Park yesterday. On it, Rob gets post-match thoughts from Mayo joint-manager David Heaney and he also chats with Kevin Egan, the Offaly-born, Roscommon-based GAA journalist. The pod is available to club members on Patreon, details here.
Moving onto Saturday’s loss to Kerry in the LGFA All-Ireland Championship, there are reports on that game in Western People, Connaught Telegraph, Radio Kerry, Ladies Gaelic Football, Irish Examiner, Irish Independent.
That’s your lot. Have a good Monday, all.

Well done to the minors, they came out the right side of it and it should set them up nicely for Kerry

Is the ref for the weekends game not the same ref we had against Cavan?

Willie Joe, Liveline on Radio 1 will discuss GAA jerseys and colour blindness today 1.45 with Katie Hannon sitting in for Joe Duffy. A listener contacted the programme to say that the only way he could differentiate betdween the Cork and Limerick jerseys was the direction they were playing! He also referenced the fact that one in 12 men and one in 200 women are colour blind.

Thanks for the heads-up, Grainne!

@Waiting for Sam
I think it is . Surely it shouldn't be.a ref from Ulster though .

I know people have said it on here all year but there must be a dearth of refs from the other provinces! Hopefully, it makes no difference whatsoever to the game.

I wonder is there any hope of Tommy C making an appearance?

Hope we don't have to put Willie Joe into moderation today after hearing on liveline that the GAA were not aware of any issue with colour blind people watching matches.

Not quite, DejaVu! I have an aversion to Liveline at the best of times and, in any event, wasn't able to listen to it today but it doesn't surprise me in the least to learn that the GAA aren't aware of there being a problem in this area. That's abundantly clear from the current arrangements with playing strips.

@Paddyjoejohntom
Are you hoping we aren't in the draw because Donegal put us out of our misery?
I dont think Mayo will be in the draw next week no matter what happens - it will be qfinals or end of season.

I listened to it and couldn’t believe what I was hearing when Katie read out the statement from the GAA. Talk of living under a rock.

There was a petition shared on the Discord group about this recently - worth signing and sharing around!

A caller to Liveline said he had a conversation on air with Joe Duffy about two years ago about colour blindness and rugby and, as a result, the rugby authorities changed their whole system for the six nations competition so the problem no longer arises in any of the matches. So here's hoping.

This year alone we've had Kieran McGeeney come out speaking about it and the hassle it causes for 2 of his playing panel, in years previous they've had folks like Tomás Ó'Sé speaking about his challenges with it and since back in ~'11 they've been tagged on various social media platforms in numerous conversations around it (@Willie Joe at the heart or at least the spark for many a Mayo focused one).
To claim that they were unaware of it being a problem is outlandish & with zero credibility.

Even for those of us who want to stick with tradition, I can’t see a problem with us using an away jersey of mainly the white of Connacht with two hoops of green and red. With the Green above the Red obviously.
