Can you provide a bit of context to what you posted there, Ontheditch - is that the job spec or what?

Hope they gathered enough money on the biscuit tin tour to cover the 60 odd going to Portugal the weekend.
It would seem odd to me if the CEO was to be reporting to a sub committee. Surely the CEO reports straight to the top?
I think it's a great idea in theory, the lack of detail on the package etc. you would be applying for is off putting. 5 years CEO experience is a high bar. According Google AI:
"The average salary for a CEO in Ireland varies significantly by source, ranging from around €200,000 to over €450,000 annually, with some data showing an even higher average of approximately €281,869 and a total compensation figure of €2.53 million for top earners. Factors like company size, industry, and experience level play a large role in determining the final salary.
Average salary estimates
Glassdoor: Estimates an average base salary of €200,000, with a total pay range of €192,000–€208,000.
Salary Expert: Provides a higher average gross salary of €281,869 per year.
Morgan McKinley: Suggests an average range of €250,000–€450,000 per year.
ERI Economic Research Institute: States an average of €283,003 per year.
Factors that influence salary
Experience: An entry-level CEO (1-3 years) earns about €171,239, while a senior-level CEO (8+ years) earns an average of €474,421, according to Salary Expert."

I see the Examiner are reporting that Mayo will head to a warm-weather training camp in Portugal on Sunday. Hopefully it will be a good bonding session for all the new players in the squad and the start of something positive for the year ahead

60 odd going to Portugal is grand , they are all bursting a gut to get a place on the Mayo team , it’s not as if they’re bringing lads who don’t intend to play for Mayo .
Ontheditch says:

Presumably GAA headquarters have a plan to roll out CEOs to all counties eventually, so we are early on the bandwagon, probably arising from the top brass meeting with Co. Board some time back.
Very important we get the right man for the job. He'll have to come up with innovative uses for McHale Park. Did Mayo GAA make money from the Connacht rugby match. If we did we should be trying to make it an annual event. Summer Concerts, drone shows.....all very challenging.

From the Irish Examiner today.
Mayo’s senior footballers are heading to Portugal for a warm weather training camp this weekend.
New manager Andy Moran and his charges will travel to Vilamoura in The Algarve on Sunday for pre-season preparations.
The group’s trip will last five days but they won’t be staying at one of the sports campuses that are regularly used by senior county squads.
It has been speculated Kobe McDonald will also be travelling with the group despite signing for AFL club St Kilda earlier this month. McDonald will complete his Leaving Certificate in June before heading to Australia.
There is hope the Crossmolina starlet, who is U20 in 2026, might also be available for some, if not all the seniors’ forthcoming season.
Gizmobobs says:
November 26, 2025 at 2:39 pm
MayoMagic may not be only AFL player going.
I don't know to be honest. Nothing against lads going AFL, that's up to them. But should large investment be spend on them when others who may play for Mayo go without?
Be tough on lads to take who would love the opportunity to Play for Mayo.
Jimbo says:

That's great news on this damp dreary day. Hopefully the mayo team will hit the ground running in january. Andy Moran means business and that is good to see. There is no shortage of good footballers in this county. I doubt very much that kobe will be part of the travelling party . We need to move on without kobe.

Seem to be doing similar with Kobe as was done with Pearce Hanley back in 2007 whereby he was allowed to line out with Mayo U21s and Seniors before leaving.

Surprising that kobe's AFL club would allow that if he has already signed up. Andy looks determined to get it right.

@Ontheditch: The same club did the exact same with Eamonn Armstrong (of Meath) last year before his leaving cert.
They're already taking a relative gamble on their end losing 6 months of the 24 month possible Category B contracts by signing lads pre-Leaving Cert, so anything they can do to help bring them on physically and athletically in that time (like clearing them to play adult/u20 County ball for the year) very much a win/win for them and the players.
A significant win for the county too, imho. Having a talent like that excelling at training can only help improve the players around them (whether that's on a senior panel or a 20s one). A huge upside too in giving a departing player a taste of what the county setup feels like, what they'd be missing and having that nostalgia pulling on their heartstrings any time they're making a call in the future (whether that's short, medium or long term in the future) on whether to stick or twist down in Oz.
Glorydays says:

I wouldnt be bringing any player that will be leaving these shores after their state exams let them sort out their own strength and conditioning time we hardened up in Mayo
Culmore says:

If a player is leaving the Mayo panel anytime in the next year, the County should leave them off County panel immediately they know they are leaving and spend no more money on them.

Kobe has the potential to be a generational talent, and he’s one of the few players I would say an exception should be made for. While he is still in Ireland, it’s a great opportunity to show him exactly what’s available if he ever decides to make a move back home. If the speculation is correct, allowing him to train with the senior setup is the right decision, especially since the opportunity is now available. He will move to Australia at 18 and complete his rookie B contract by 20. If things don’t work out there, he still has the option to return to Mayo and remain eligible a season to contend for the Young Footballer of the Year award. Time is on his side, and we need to show him that there is an option at home if that’s something he wants to pursue in the future.

Nice to see the lads getting an away trip, I might be wrong but I can't recall them going overseas in years. Abu Dhabi didn't do the Donegal lads any harm this time last year and Mayo don't appear to get those Easter ones Kerry are famous for. Wasn't it this time last year we were trying to work out the squad from a photo back near Belmullet!
Clare says:

Totally agree with Tsu on this. A few weeks ago we were complaining about not doing enough to build relationships and now people complaining about... building relationships. Its laughable really how close minded some people can be.
The AFL is now an inevitable reality, how do we react to it? Stick our head in the sand and close the door on them? Or we can keep the relationships and comminucations open, maybe learn from people like Oisin who operate in an elite pro environment every day. If Andy brings us on a great run, maybe these boys will see its worth coming back for.

Call me old fashioned, but to hell with the politics of it-you play your best team available at all times. Back in day, Dublin had no problem bringing back Kevin Moran to play, when he had already departed for Man. U.

I think it's great news. Shows there is a lot of respect between the u20s & senior mgt to facilitate this. (And Kobe's family).
I am obviously disappointed he is going to go to Oz. But it's a great opportunity for him to pass up. Mayo will always be here for him

I agree with you. Listen, I know we all live for Mayo Football but between Captaincy, The Panel, Players being dropped and not dropped, there is far far too much pub talk going on.
I seen there was a big Mayo contingent involved for UL winning the League, before you know it the next rumour will be those 10 lads have all been called into the panel and made captain.
On Raglan Road of an Autumns Day……
