Mayo Football Podcast free episode: Voices from the Club Stars

Our decision to bring back the Club Stars awards was well and truly vindicated on Friday night when a capacity crowd turned up at Knockranny House Hotel in Westport.

This show brings you behind the scenes and into the midst of a great night’s entertainment at the gala awards event of the Mayo Football Podcast Club Stars with EirGrid.

Rob and John caught up with some of the award winners over the course of the night, including James Maheady, Conor Loftus, Janette O’Malley and Sam Callinan. They also chatted with special guest, Oisín McConville.

You can also hear some audio from Aidan O’Shea, Sam Callinan, Niall Heffernan, Justin Healy, Alan Dillion, Tommy O’Malley and Liam Breheny.

This podcast episode was released last night on Patreon for club members – it’s HERE. We’ve now released it as a free show on all podcast platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, Podomatic and SoundCloud. You can listen to it here on the blog as well, using the SoundCloud player below.

The Mayo Football Podcast has partnered with EBS — The Mortgage Masters — this season.

EBS are looking to hear from Mayo supporters who are living at home or abroad who might be looking for some mortgage advice.

They have an office in Castlebar where you can arrange an appointment to call in for a chat, or you can find them online by searching for ‘EBS Castlebar’ or by clicking here.

I preface this as a grandfather it won't affect me but I think it is scandalous for the gaa to begin charging under 16 children 5 euro to attend league matches. To make it worse the gaa say it is a health and safety issue. League matches are always full of unaccompanied under 16 children. There is never any capacity issue at any league game I attend. In this day and age it should be possible to count the number of children entering any stadium if the gaa want to count the actual numbers of supporters at a venue. The GAA should reverse that decision to charge under 16 into league matches.

Jimbo in McHale park the headcount is based on turnstile activations I believe so the crowd announced is generally larger than tickets sold as U16s that enter without ticket are accounted for.
The problem they are trying to address is a parenting one where kids are let off the leash running around, running on pitch etc. this solution won't likely address it properly, but will bring in few more quid.

It'll only bring in more money if parents are willing to buy tickets for their kids to attend matches. It could easily put parents off altogether and result in kids not seeing live games, which could lessen interest in inter-county action still further. It's a very regressive move, one that could backfire badly on the GAA.

Anyone at that Claremorris v castlebar game? Such a comeback back Claremorris in the 2nd half after been 12 points down, such high scoring for the middle of December, we definitely do have talent at that 18 to 21 age group.

Unbelievable game in claremorris. Two top top top class outfits. Score taking was best I've seen in a mayo game (club or intercounty) in a long time.
Darragh beirne star of the show with an amazing goal and unbelievable score taking.
Mark Cunningham very impressive for mitchels, he'd be some operator if he committed full time.
Eoghan Hughes also impressive for castlebar.
Too early to call anyone into mayo but if the U20s don't do anything this year with the performances we saw from both sides today.....

Cracking game in Claremorris!! The home side will be kicking themselves as missed frees in crucial moments may have cost them a spot in the Co. final. Mitchell’s were without Morahan, Bob Touhey and the suspended Cian Walsh while the injured Adam Beirne made a cameo appearance for the blues. A thoroughly enjoyable game for the neutral, certainly no sign for a need to change the rule based of that display. Credit to both teams Castlebar may just have deserved it but no doubt Claremorris had more then enough chances to win it after rescuing a last minute equalizer. Well worth going down to Claremorris for this, it will be difficult for the final to replicate such a spectacle but fingers crossed.
