Hi FW…sorry, I didn’t check back in. Ah, it was a disappointing game overall. It never really got going and the one moment midway thru the 2nd half when the Neale levelled matters and it looked like game, Maheady kicked a pointed effort short and the Neale keeper let it slip through his hands and it trickled over the line…it was very fortunate for Crossmolina. There wasn’t much between the sides and ah, they’re both intermediate for a reason. Crossmolina will need more to win the championship. For them, Duffy was their best forward…he put in a mature display and kicked a few scores. Maheady was very lively but his shooting boots weren’t on. He missed a few chances first half and a great goal chance one on one with the keeper which he needed to put low and hard or go around the keeper, which he should have done. Instead he fired it mid height and the keeper saved it. In fairness to Maheady, he kept going and never gave up which deserves credit. Loftus was quiet enough, he did ok. Flynn was solid without doing anything amazing. Physically he was standout compared to others on the pitch but I’d have liked to see more from him at intermediate level. Greater dominance.

For the Neale, Conroy was their standout player. I’d say he was 7.5/10, kicked a few nice scores but he didn’t get much support. Young Hughes was full of running and effort and kicked a good score. He has good potential. A bit on the light side, but has time to get more body mass which he’d need to do if looking to play intercounty. Tommy Lydon kicked a few but overall had a quiet game. Got little supply but equally needed to force his way more into the game. It’s understandable when a guy is young, but Hughes showed much more endeavour. I guess they have different attributes. The game kind of passed Lydon by. He has a serious boot on him and accuracy but might need to work on speed over 10 yards; that burst that can allow a top forward critical
room and space. Both these lads are young forwards with plenty of ability but still plenty of work to do albeit in different areas. I’m looking forward to see how they progress.

One word to describe Garrymore. Shite.knockmore missing the guts of half their team and making light work of this.

It's not quite that clear cut.
Garrymore would normally have much more scored by this point and Knockmore much less.
Just a bizarre game how the scoring has played out so far.

JP, come on. 1 point in 30 minutes of football is shite. Knockmore far smarter. The job of a football team is not to kick wides. No fight from Garrymore in the second half. I think this talk of the likes of Darren Quinn and Slattery in mayo setups needs to be put to bed. Pearse Rutdledge has controlled midfield and never spoke about in mayo circles. I’d say this would be Garrymore biggest defeat at home in championship history?

As for knockmore if you were from the club you’d have to laugh at times. Written off against Claremorris, Belmullet and now again today. Even with all these injuries and they still get into a semi. For a rural club they never get the recognition they deserve.

Good report Mayonaze and interesting comments on what Lydon needs to work on to get to the next level. Let's hope u20 management can see this.

Knockmore outstanding, what a team effort all over the field. From Colm Reape to Coalan Hopkins, they out played and out fought Garrymore. A bit like Ballintubber in the earlier game, an ageing team with little coming through. As for Mayo prospects, they were wearing Yellow today. Darren McHale has to get a serious run at Eleven for Mayo next year. His vision and accuracy to pick out a pass was worth the entry alone. Best player I saw in the two games Senior games today.
