Mayo Football Podcast episode: The final four in Intermediate and Junior

Everyone knows how hard it is to win the Mayo Junior and Intermediate championships, but this weekend two teams are going to qualify for those finals.

Mike and Rob are joined by Nigel Reape and Ger Flanagan, who has won medals in both championships in recent years, to look ahead to two evenly-balanced contests.

They also preview the relegation final between Kiltimagh and Islandeady and the County Junior B Final between Achill and Kilmovee.

Fancy Ballinrobe to win it outright. Should have learned their hard lessons from last years final

Wasn't hugely impressed with Ballinrobe vs Ardnaree ... and they lost their midfielder to what looked like a hamstring injury...
Style of play very slow and defencive in the first half .However in the 2nd half they moved the ball quicker . If they play their 2nd half style of football hagainst Cross , they should have enough....
I think the Kiltaine game will have brought on Davitts even more.
Make no mistake that Kiltaine timed their run well and fully intended on winning the intermediate championship this year ... However Davitts answered all their questions.
Davitts will give Moy Davitts lots of it but I've picked Moy Davitts from the start based on the quality of the subs they can bring on .
So Moy Davitts V Ballinrobe final for me with Moy D to win it fairly comfortably

very low standard so far in the moy davitts v davitts semi final i think the 6 day turnaround has a lot to do with it not easy on the players.

Cian McHale show for moy davitts, very average performance otherwise and if referee Jerome Henry didn't make a poor call and show a black card to a moy davitts man for a trip while davitts were through in goal and 2 up, it would have been a different story.
Niall Treacy outstanding for davitts, his goal as good as any in the championship this year.
His 18 year old younger brother also outstanding throughput the game, very unlucky not to strike a goal when a soccer style effort went just wide.
Mayo panelists Conor Reid and Fenton Kelly with very average performances considering they are in with the green and red.

Looks like both intermediate games going be poor shows. Numerous turnovers in this second game already.

Crossmolima beat Ballinrobe after ET..
Ballinrobe kicked something like 20 wides .
Neither side looks fit for senior football.
Joe Bueke very good for Ballinrobe.
Jordan flynn average
Conor Loftus did look county standard

Conditions are bad today but it’s very poor across both games today. Much as been made that this year’s championship has been great…well compared to last years crap it is. That said the standard of football across the grades in Mayo is very worrying….

Between the 2 semi finals id love to know the total number of wides. the 1st half when both davitts and ballinrobe had the breeze cost both teams badly in the end.

A lot of experts on here it seems . The conditions were brutul , it's an afull time of year to be playing ball. As regards been fit for senior football next year neither moy davits or crossmolina are worried about that, it's all about winning the intermediates this year and let next year take care of itself

Deel rover I agree on that, both moy davitts and cross have some of the best young players in the county and I've no doubt either of those teams will compete fine.

Yes indeed conditions and what is at stake play a large part at this time of year.
Teams that come up find it very difficult to stay up.
