It’s been 44 years since St Colman’s College, Claremorris last played in a Hogan Cup Final.
But the class of 2025 ended the long wait when they beat Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar in the All-Ireland Post-Primary Schools Senior ‘A’ Football Championship semi-final last Saturday.
They will now play at Croke Park in the final on St Patrick’s Day.
Mike paid a visit to the famous South Mayo nursery on Monday afternoon to sit down with St Colman’s joint managers Eoghan Collins and Enda Campbell, and the team’s joint captains Darragh Beirne and Rio Mortimer.

Brilliant pod! Four well spoken and knowledgeable gentlemen who talk sense. A great insight into the mind set of the group and the determination to win. Very inspiring. I know where I'll be on St. Patrick's day. Nice one Mike.

What a fantastic two young lads and two excellent mature communicators as teachers / managers.
Rio is mature beyond his years and you can see why everyone raves about his leadership qualities.
Darragh on the other hand shows why he is the best young forward in Mayo at the moment, confident, not cocky, and talks with a swagger yet is very self aware.
Thought his words on playing in big games was funny, saying he's used to it and he won't be nervous either way - when you consider he's been the best player on the team in two county title wins at u16 and minor, Connacht minor motm in both mayo and schools, and kicked 9 on his debut for Claremorris age 17 - he certainly won't be daunted.

A joy to listen to all 4.
Listening to Darragh & Rio you can see how much they're loving their football, keeping their priorities straight and how the team are managing to push themselves to incredible levels of work rate. You don't get that type of commitment just barking at lads, at any age.
Huge credit to Mr. Collins and Mr. Campbell there. Seems like they've produced, along with the rest of the school, a fantastic environment for both success & fun. Then massive credit to the lads themselves making the most of it and firing themselves all the way to Croker.
Fingers & toes crossed. Another huge battle ahead, but exactly the type they've dreamed of facing.

Listening to the two young lads, if you didn’t know who they were you would think they were in their mid twenties. So mature and sensible. Best of luck to all the team. Hopefully I’ll be there to support them too.

I agree great hearing the views of all four.
The lateral passing and 'robotic' football is not for Darragh, long may he hold that view.
I played with and against his dad and uncle, 2 great footballers and hurlers in their day.
I was at the '81 final cheering on the 'big lads' and plan to be there again.
Best of luck to them all.

I know Mike says it hard to believe Colmans havn't been to a final since 1981, we all know the main reason for that was because of the St Jarlaths boarders from all over Connacht and Donegal.Since the boarding stopped in 2005 Mayo and Sligo schools have been dominating in Connacht now, but the last Connacht team to win the Hogan Cup was the St Jarlaths team of 2001 captained by Michael Meehan.

Great to see Colmans back in the final after so long. Only Mayo college to win a Hogan Cup?

Just to add, St Colmans have a great team back in 1986 /1987, lost by one point to St Mary's from Galway in Connacht championship, St Mary's lost the All Ireland final by one point, but Colmans were very unlucky and a few refereeing decisions went against them v St Mary's, a brilliant crop of footballers seem to have been born in the one year, from Claremorris town primarily and also Garrymore and Hollymount clubs.

Great win St Colmans. As a Mayo boarder, I was in Jarlaths in 1977 when Colmans bate us to win their first Connacht, then went on and won the Hogan Cup. Here's hoping they go all the way this time too !
