Friday evening’s Connacht Under-17 championship game between Mayo and Galway was little more than a shadow-boxing exercise ahead of the provincial semi-final in a fortnight’s time.
But it was an entertaining watch at Tuam as Mike and Colm Boyle explain here.
The lads also set the scene for Saturday’s Connacht SFC semi-final against Leitrim, and Boyler explains what approach the Mayo camp will be taking.
Colm also pays tribute to his old team-mate, Aidan O’Shea, ahead of his 200th appearance.

Am I correct in stating this
Tommy Conroy done his ACL in February 2022 what other injuries did he get?
Paddy Durcan in April or May lads year.
Diarmuid O Connor seems to be in and out for 2 years through injuries.
I cannot understand why the recovery has been so slow for all 3 players, all of a similar type, very athletic.

Interesting point Batetheblanket. Disappointing to not be getting the most out of these 3 top players. Tommy has never got going at full tilt since his injury. We have not seen the best of Diarmaid for a number of years and how we miss Paddy driving up the field . I would say these 3 guys on form are 3 of our best 6/7 players. Galway bemoaned their injury crisis last year with Kelly, Walsh and Comer never really going at full tilt. I would reckon the 3 we are missing are equal in influence to our team as the 3 named Galway lads are to theirs. The problem also is that when you do return from a long term injury you don’t just slot back as if you never left, it takes a long time to get up to the speed of the game especially in championship football. I would dearly love to see our 3 lads in action as soon as possible as to complete in the later stages of the championship we need to have our best players ready for action

Think it was the gooch or brogan who said they'd lost a yard of pace after an ACL. It's the extent of these injuries that needs to be examined IMO. I've seen several young lads breaking down with them at a non elite level in the last while.

I didn't pick that photo! There's no subliminal message relating to it.

@Batetheblanket: We haven't much information around Tommy's latest injury. He'd been going well for the club (himself & the young lads Lydon & Hughes bouncing off each other, allowing the side to shoot the lights out - Lydon finishing 4th top scorer in intermediate while u18) but then needed another surgery "to tidy things up". It was announced in December, though never much more than that on specifics that I remember hearing shared officially.
Paddy's ACL was May '24 alright. A small chance he might have been back before now (even without a miraculous recovery like Nickie Quaid or even Dan Sheehan), but still pretty much on track for an injury of that nature. Nobody would be questioning it other than the frequent mentions he would be back during the league.
Diarmuid's latest was a contact injury from a (late) shoulder. So not a further trend of muscle injuries that'd be far more worrying. An outside chance while he was nursing the shoulder he was putting in more work on the hamstring to help avoid any repeat issues there, so potentially a silver lining from his forced absence.

No fear of seeing Tommy in Carrick. Mayo extended panel played last night apparently, doubt he even featured there. But hopefully he be back for the Club championship, he would give The Neale a serious handful of a full forward line.
