Cian O'Neill off to Kerry , the biggest Glory hunter of them all, no loyalty in Gaelic football anymore a real kick in the teeth to Padraic Joyce he did the same to Mayo in 2012 after All Ireland Final from what I remember and wasnt it that prick Joe Brolly that said on a recent podcast that Kerry never go outside in there management teams and now they have Tally and O'Neill .hope Kerry have no success with O'Neill.

Unfortunately they’re fairly hot favourites now for me Sam Óg. I thought a few weeks ago Kerry would win in ‘25 and now I’d be very surprised if they don’t with Cian O’Neill on board. They should have beaten Armagh, were in a comfortable position, missed a few sitters and let it slip. They had a relatively new midfield and I just think Kerry will be stronger next year and without being great, cos they’re not, I just feel they’ll do it and O’Connor will retire on that. And you’ll probably see Donaghy go in then.

In fairness, CON brought a structure and a higher level of intelect (with all due respect), to Galway. He, or Pj can't be held to blame for the ridiculous indecision or missed chances by experienced senior players on the field. I know times have changed, but in '70's Tony Hanahoe assumed captain/player manager of Dubs. for a period. God forbid, a senior player on the field adopt a "common sense" approach and change freetaker. Pj would have scored them in his sleep.
Talk now that Dessie Dolan will fill the vacancy. Rem. him and wife getting a house makeover with Dermot Bannon (Architect), and to be honest, only for his wife's decisiveness and courage to call the shots, Dermot Bannon would still be on site. My point is, you need leaders on sideline and equally on the field. Good luck to Cian,.

What's this about a review committee looking into the performance of senior management and the team in 2024.
What are they hoping to find out that is not already known...team weren't just good enough - end of!
Mayo Focus says:
September 9, 2024 at 6:54 am
I don't agree John, respectfully. If Armagh are good enough to win the All Ireland, then so are we. There is very little between about 6 teams going into next season & we should be doing absolutely everything possible to find gains, be that in playing personnel or on the sideline.
If we do nothing, we are potentially pissing away a full season.
Joe Brolly has been mentioned abobe? I listened to his podcast this week where he cut apart the new proposed rules. He never once acknowledged the thinking behind any of them, only went out of his way to find fault in them all. For a barrister, he completely missed the point of keeping the 3 players in each half idea. His "genius" idea was to simply ban zonal defence & ban passing back to the goalie. Fanciful to just ban the zonal defence. How do you referee that? I actually tweeted him to ask did he submit his ideas on the survey? It was probably beneath him to do so. Or he was having pints and overheard someone else saying it, and stole there idea.

@Mayo Focus
The thing with Brolly and I'm loathe to draw more attention to him is that he realises (as it seems that every other Indo writer does) is that negativity clicks sell when it comes to gaelic football.
"Why this out of context still photo of a u14 game in Antrim proves the game is DEAD" etc
Honestly you could copy and paste every single article from him/Breheny/eamon sweeney etc. It's always the same, insisting that gaelic football is dead/dying etc, split season needs to go, all the rules need to change, whining about GAAGO, whining about the GAA. Whinge whinge whinge. Relentless negativity. There isn't a sport in the world that inspires such self loathing as Gaelic Football, and yet on the ground I see a game in rude health. Participation rates have never been better, in all four corners of the country. The club game and skill levels has never been of a higher standard. You won't walk a hundred yards in the country until you bump into a kid with a cul camp's top on
They never ever counter with a solution or solid proposals on how to improve things, it's just a call that 'everything must go'.
I actually think it's an editorial decision from the Indo the constant Relentless negative articles on football, they daren't ever speak ill of Rugby or the infallible 'heroes' that play it.
I'll admit that improvements can be made to gaelic football, minor tweaks to encourage more contents and promote attacking play but I'm sick of having to defend the sport from people who get all their lazy talking points from Brolly/The Sunday game/Eamonn sweeney/the Indo. Unless they cam articulate some solutions apart from saying 'everything must go' then they shouldn't be entertained.

Supermac, the modern day media is all about clicks to drive add revenue. Even closer to home the Mayo News, Connaught Telegraph etc. are chronic on line.
One example from Mayo news "Search for Meath teen missing for over 3 weeks stood down by gardaí" is the heading of the article, you have to click in to article to read that thankfully the young lad was located.
Or on Telegraph a Facebook post titled "Locals have been left stunned", on article about car crashing into house in busy Mayo town center. Town obviously not named so as to generate curiosity clicks.
Mayo Focus says:

Well said supermac, while football has issues the negative coverage is completely overkill. You could do the same for any sport
Supermac says:
September 9, 2024 at 11:39 am
Exactly Plunkett.
There isn't a sport on the planet with as much self loathing. Is there room for tweaks and evolution? Of course there is, just like any other sport.
Go out and tell the thousands of players across the country who have togged out for championship at all levels the past few weeks that football is dead, I would safely say they'll beg to differ.
You never hear of a dull rugby game leading to existential questions about the sport dying. (Usually its celebrated as 'absorbing' or 'attritional' at worst)
Similarly there are plenty of dire nil all draws in the premiership or at the euros but people aren't calling for a hysterical overhaul of the playing rules.
It's hysteria driven by relentless negativity in the media and on The Sunday Game.
An embittered Colm o'rourke will likely be back in the Indo now to decry the modern game, and joining all his colleagues in gleefully announcing its demise

You can’t really compare the evolution of soccer and rugby with Gaelic football.soccer is played at a relatively slow pace until they hit the final third .Rugby has generally always been played the same way but Gaelic football has adapted rules from other sports like for instance the forward mark an absolute abomination of a rule that players soon found a way to exploit by laterally kicking across the 45 and of course it requires zero skill in the main to win a mark.Gaelic football now resembles soccer in the slow build up from the back .Those other sports were designed to be played in the way they mainly still are but Gaelic football was not meant to be played in slow ponderous risk averse manner that it has become. It won’t change with tweaking rules because there are too many coaches now involved in finding a way around any new rules.some people may find the modern game entertaining but personally I don’t

We let it go too far and it’s too late now , the amount of mercenaries around the country getting paid from junior club to senior county is embarrassing . I honestly think we live in a country where fraudulent characters are worshiped/idolised , some of these bucks are not even football men at all , it’s all pure nonsense.
It should have been called out with Micko and Kerry many moons ago . Nobody should benefit financially in an amateur sporting organisation. You have to move with the times , I hear ye . For what though , for who , who is benefiting. Grounds are half empty for championship , it’s become soulless the whole thing . I took a moment this year in The Hyde and looked around to a ground about 1/4 full if that and I thought back to days when I was a boy and the place would be wedged , massive occasion , memories of the day to last . Shur what has a young buckeen to call an occasion now bar his county makes a final , it’s a load of pish (as they’d say in Glasgow ) .
We are slowly killing the game as a spectacle in more ways than one .

Agree with all posters re Brolly and the online 'versions' of local media.
Mayo Focus I agree that '25 is very open with any one of six capable of winning. This however is not good news for us, because it means that it's more competitive than when Dubs and Kerry are the front runners. If the opposition is relatively weak, you find it easier to get to a final - think of us in '20 in the COVID championship. It all means the pool section is hard to top, a quarter final is likely to be down to the wire and a semi a further level up, not to mention the final. Yes, Galway came close, but Donegal weren't a million miles away either.
In fact Galway did very well to get to a final - and Tuam Star and Chesney - that's not meant to be condescending.

Best of luck to all the young lads, it's a big call to move at such a young age if they get the offer. But gives them the best opportunity to succeed. Can see how hard it is for Oisin now by comparison, as would be expected given age at time of move.

Oisin Mullin wont be back anytime soon, he isn't a regular starter but they do like him. His skills and decision making with the ball is letting him down in games, but his pace and athleticism is unreal. They have him playing a man marker role, or shut down role as they call it, and it suits him. I would think they are happy to keep him another few years and hope he develops his skills, he needs game time and maybe playing more in the second tier (VFL) would also be good for him.

Ridiculous report in the western people, a report about rumors and just adds to the overall bad look of the county.
Delegates spouting rumors in county board meetings doesn't help either.
Its between McStay and the players if there's any issues, and doesn't need the county board or supporters getting involved and demanding changes to a backroom team.
If the county board are telling McStay that he needs to change his backroom team, a team he put together, then he should step away cause that's a unworkable situation to be in.
If it is one person they have doing the independent review, and that one person ahs to get review from each player and from management team, then that would take a long time. Have Galway, Dublin confirmed there management team?
Gizmobobs says:
September 10, 2024 at 1:11 pm
Tommy132, he highlights valid points around deafening silence mind.

It’s totally baffling why this review has taken so long and then we have comments from county board officials that only add further fuel to the fire .Are we going to have another fiasco like 1992 and 2015.First question of any review should be have we made progress over the last two years and in terms of results well no we haven’t .James Horans last year always had a feel of playing out time but we are no further on now.No new players aside from bob tuohy have unearthed and his contribution has been minimal.our style of play has become more ponderous and extraordinarily boring.in last year’s review was the question asked as to the exact reason Liam McHale left and what exactly did he mean in his parting comments.watching the poor quality of this year’s all final has made everyone realise there is a huge chance for several counties in next year’s championship.I was delighted to see mcstay and rochford return to the management but so far it can only be described as a failure but at the moment there is no obvious alternative

Seems like a pretty impossible situation if Kevin doesn't want to change his team, and then is "forced" to.
Really is a tricky one, a lot of key matches went right down the wire and we were unlucky. At the same time the playing style still doesn't look able to break down a packed defense.
Green&Red says:
September 10, 2024 at 2:31 pm
Pod Fan
I tend to agree but at the same time we had 3 other very strong candidates (and some very impressive fresh backroom teams, which now seems to be the issue) who went for the job last time in fairness. The bigger question would be “is there the demand there for candidates to put their name forward?”. I for one would have no love to work with this country board. It’s a complete and utter mess. This stuff doesn’t go on in Tyrone, Kerry Dublin etc. I wonder did Malachy O’Rourke have to do a big presentation or interview for the Tyrone gig? I personally wouldn’t rule out the strength of internal candidates. It’s worth remembering that JH had very little management experience when he first came in and did a great job. It’s about developing a strong and modern management team, which I think can be achieved, as the last process proved.
But look in all fairness I think we should give Kevin a 3rd but a few fresh names to the backroom team would be very well welcomed.
Culmore says:
September 10, 2024 at 2:36 pm
Looks like a real mess , but thats nothing new in Mayo. County Board not fit for purpose and needs replaceing , but who if anyone will take their places. Managers afraid to loose a game and as a result just play possession football so they will only loose by a point or two in any given game. Most players know it all and want to be manager of team while still playing but not really putting their blood and sweet into it. Where cant we get 15 Colm Boyles or Chris Barretts to play.
dreamysleepynightysnoozysnooze says:
September 10, 2024 at 3:01 pm
Get rid of McStay and who comes in? Nobody would want the job, frankly. And what happens when the next manager fails? Will supporters and county board maybe begin to reflect on the quality of player being produced in the county not to mention the abysmal resources available?
Southmayo Exile says:

County board farting around with this review. This review should have been completed with 4 weeks of been knocked out of the championship. Wtf are they waiting for.
Where is the review at this stage? When will it be finished?
As usual we make a mess of things. Kerry review completed and new management team up and running. While we still messing around and nobody seems to know where our review is at. Another fine mess that could have been avoided.
Gizmobobs says:
September 10, 2024 at 7:15 pm

Green&Red says:
September 10, 2024 at 7:31 pm
That’s the real question that needs to be answered Gizm. If we are looking for a new manager within the next year, are we going to go for the fancy names that actually haven’t a clue about what’s going on within the county. In the entire management team, only one of them has managed a club team. But because there was people there before with “great” reputations such as Donie Buckley (who wasn’t even considered when Kerry switched up their mgmt team this year) that seems to do. This management team have offered nothing new in terms of players at all. Still relying on AOS to bail us out is not a dig at other players but more so the lack of development of players within the squad.
But until we get a county board that can think clearly and critically we aren’t going anywhere. The blind leading the deaf at the moment.
Gizmobobs says:
September 10, 2024 at 7:58 pm
Yes it is Frosty, in the Western article "Mr Tuohy asked delegates to ‘trust the process’, adding that the review has been lengthened".
So based on that you'd imagine the delegates had been given an ECD, and that was pushed out.
Gizmobobs says:
September 10, 2024 at 8:03 pm
“There was no review carried in June, July or August in any county. There is no point in having a review with half a squad.” offered Mr Tuohy, who added that meetings with senior management have been held.
That's in same article, given Tyrone have appointed Malachy already and Kerry have poached Cian O'Neill it shows things can happen quickly as it's only 10 days into September, they must have done their business in <10 days.
Supermac says:
