Mayo Football Podcast episode: Mayo pull together to stay standing

Last Saturday’s win over Tyrone was always going to need a second viewing.

Mike and Rob are joined on the pod by Colm Boyle and Billy Joe Padden to reflect on a performance and a result that has lifted spirits inside and outside the Mayo camp.

The lads chat about the changes in personnel, strategy and attitude that helped Mayo to deliver their best performance of the championship so far.

This podcast episode is now online and is available to our club members on Patreon. To get access to this show and to all our other great content, for as little as €1 a week, join the club HERE.

I think everyone knew this performance was in the team.

I also think that's the reason people were frustrated because we weren't seeing it until the Tyrone game, the 2nd half of the Armagh game and at time during the Connacht final.

Jack Coyne going under the radar a bit with his performances so far (despite TOTW last week).

He put manners on Rob Finnerty in the Connaught final and done a stellar job on Darragh Canavan in Omagh. Two “marquee” forwards.

Starting off the season a bit slowly coming back from injury. It’s great to see him push on. His point at the end of the game last week is certainly in his locker.

With himself and Morahan we have two solid defenders in the full back line. The search for one more is still ongoing as I feel Hession/Brick/Mcbrien are better suited to further out the field.

T

Tirawleybaron says:

Even when we were well in control in the match, we stood back and let them back into it.
That in game inconsistency can cost you 10 points in the modern game.
A 6 point lead is nothing in an era of two pointers.
Anything other than a complete 70mins wont get a result against Donegal. As they showed in every match except Tyrone, Donegal play for the whole match and will punish you on the counter attack.

Thats easier said than done for a team that hasnt played for the full 70 in 4/5 years.

Great performance last time out that needs to be backed up by a repeat (and some) one, which is no mean feat. Plenty of motivation for both sides. I feel McGuiness' aura might be slipping a wee bit.

Agree about Jack Coyne. I was getting worried about him but playing well again now

M

mayotillidie says:

Had a look back on Donegal vs Cavan. They get oxygen from turn overs, and counter attack at real speed. While they have numerous dangerous forwards, Michael Murphy need real minding, and who do you put on him. If we go up the field, need to get a shot away hopefully over the bar, or wide. Because if want to win game, cant give them turn over ball.

M

mayotillidie says:

June 4, 2025 at 11:10 am

And need more scores from our forwards, and ideally choke up their forwards. Both thing not easy fix

S

Good shout on Coyne praise,I've been critical of him in previous times but credit where it's due he's had a good championship (apart from cavan game when everyone was dire)

C

Clubman51 says:

As good as Conal Dawson was the last day, I don't think we start him next weekend. For me Jordan Flynn comes back in (will be needed around the middle). We will have Dawson, Neary, Boland, Towey off the bench.

Who marks Murphy is the question? I would probably go with McBrien, Coen/McHugh also viable options. I can see Donegal pumping direct ball into the edge of the square, trying to kill us off early and not allow for any Mayo momentum.

Coyne on Gallen
McBrien on Murphy
McHugh/Brick on McBrearty
Morahan on O'Donnell

It would be a great boost to get Eoghan McLoughlin, Tommy Conroy, or Diarmuid back into the 26 also. G

M

MayoMayo1 says:

June 4, 2025 at 12:48 pm

Fully agree on Coyne, had my concerns about him but thought he was superb the last day and has been solid pretty much all year. Brings me back to something Boyler said about giving young players time to settle in. Coyne seems to be getting there now where he is a certain reliable starter. He held Canavan excellently, really appreciated it on second viewing. He also bursted forward with pace, took his point nicely. Great to have those options in the back line that can interchange between lines, we have often been stacked with half backs but having the ability to change and give some of those middle eight players a rest is vital under the new rules.

O

Ontheditch says:

June 4, 2025 at 1:20 pm

Discipline will be key. Both Neary and Flynn need to be well warned that we need them on the field at all times. Something Donegal will work on.
Given the way we played against Tyrone, we have some strength on bench. A return of Conroy or other injured players would be a timely boost.

D

Dan says:

June 4, 2025 at 2:19 pm

The performance/result against Tyrone was hugely encouraging, but this will be a step up challenge wise.
There wasn't a great deal of jeopardy for Tyrone, having already beat Donegal and with a final game against Cavan to come. Add to the mix the fact that our backs were to the wall and we had to come out swinging (which we certainly did, much to the lads credit).
Not trying to take away from our performance, but we have to be realistic. We're playing one of the AI favourites and a team who could potentially be knocked out of the Championship with a defeat to us. So it's all on the line.

Let's see if we can put together back to back top quality displays, something we've struggled with recently.
It's in us, no question, and the template is there in many aspects of the Tyrone game. But we're in for one hell of a battle.
To think the bookies have Donegal 4/11 and Tyrone 1/8 to win, it's clear what's expected. And that's for us to be spending the rest of the summer sitting on our arses, watching the rest slug it out. So let's rip up the script.

M

mayotillidie says:

June 4, 2025 at 2:47 pm

we are underdogs, and both team are really desperate for win. Both team will have general same amount of time to prepare. Dr. Hyde is an advantage, but only slightly an advantage to Mayo. If their goalie injured still, it helps us, but assume he will be back. They have quality player, especially in attack, and could make point that not our strongest sector.

C

Craggy boglands says:

June 4, 2025 at 3:40 pm

Looking back at Tyrone game. The aos problem. We didn't put one high ball into aos against Tyrone after what we saw against cavan in the dying minutes. Why. Because he wasn't in there. Now he played well but he tried to break the line but always had to pass it off. Against a small enough donegal full back line it obvious that he has to stay in and we fire in 6 0r 7 rocket s on top of him. Brendan macole is not a big man. Because we won nobody really asked this question. This has to happen against donegal if we think we can prevail. Now the question is ... is he told to come out or stay in. Against Tyrone he was not effective on the score board. We will not get away with that against donegal

T

TsuDhoNim says:

June 4, 2025 at 4:15 pm

@Craggy boglands: We put in one (ended up more to RO'D vs Morgan but was intended for Aido) where Aido was lurking and got fouled by Morgan on the break and another where RO'D put it over to Aido in a 1v1 with Teague (fouled while the ball was still in the air) that both ended in scores.

M

mayotillidie says:

June 4, 2025 at 4:24 pm

We scored 2-17 last day, we going to need something like that total against Donegal, That a lot without hitting some two pointer. And we not that accurate at scoring goals. know we got two last day but missed alot more. Missed couple of very takeable ones against Galway. Need to take these chances, they will come our way. But need to take them

S

Swallow Swoops says:

I wonder if Eoghan McLaughlin will be back against Donegal and if a man with this skillset would be valuable against them. I’m thinking of the speed, the rocket goals and the dedicated tigerish marking. He is one of our aces up the sleeve, I think.

C

Clare says:

June 4, 2025 at 5:13 pm

@Swallow swoops

We have missed him is well he would definetly be a bonus back v Donegal .

Also Diarmuid O ' Connor is well I feel bad he's had such a bad luck with injuries.

C

Craggy boglands says:

June 4, 2025 at 5:20 pm

Tsu dhohim. We need to do in 2025 what they did in 2012. Route one. He needs to stay in. Its as simple as that at least until we put up some scores. We cannot afford to have him not scoring. He played mostly on the forty against Tyrone. Jimmy would be delighted with that. Play him inside and he will occupy 2 men and potentially stop them breaking at pace in numbers

C

Cloud9 says:

June 4, 2025 at 5:52 pm

Neary has to start. Look at the pace and directness he injected v Tyrone when he came on. Flynn, needs to follow suit and all cut loose when we have the ball.
We’re the masters of mayhem so don’t let Jimmy impose his game plan. Massive energy too in defense with power running off the shoulder and into spaces ahead looking for the ball - pace… high energy… pace… and the scores will come.

C

Clubman51 says:

June 4, 2025 at 5:57 pm

@Honyaboya Really rate Donnocha but would question if he (at the moment) would have the physicality for marking Michael Murphy. I get man versus boy vibes from thinking about the tussle. That is no disrespect to Donnocha, he has done a job on Fenton/Enda Smith to name a few in the past. But with long diagonal ball going into him I would worry for McHugh on him.

Thompson/Langan is a better match up for this one!

Donegal haven't kicked the leather off the ball this year so far, but you can bet your left leg that will go long and early against Mayo and try and silence the crowd and put those seeds of doubt in.

The more times that Hession, Coyne, Morahan, and CO come bombing out with the ball from defence, the louder we will get and grow into the game.

T

to win just once says:

It’s not true to say that the win v Tyrone will count for nothing if we don’t beat Donegal . True it will mean we don’t qualify for Preliminary QF which is a setback alright but the win v Tyrone has restored a bit of pride and self confidence both for the team and the county as a whole. You only need to look on the comments on this blog. Most people who comment here are really genuine Mayo supporters who back the team and avoid nasty criticisms ( credit to WJ for his moderation skills too ) . There was a massive sense of deflation following Connacht final and a sense of hopelessness plus anger after the Cavan game. So much has changed since we played Tyrone. People are more positive and upbeat . Now I hope we don’t all return to our criticism and scapegoating should we lose to Donegal which is probable. Youngish teams in transition as we are , rarely put 2 powerful performances together especially against top quality sides .I sincerely hope we win but will not be one bit surprised if we don’t. The point I am making is that by beating Tyrone the team showed itself capable of taking out a top team and it’s a while since we did that in championship Losing to Galway x2 and failing to overcome Dublin and Derry last year when we had them on the ropes would knock the confidence from a team. Beating a good Tyrone team was a boost which will stand to us going forward, hopefully this year, but more likely next season

Its amazing what a good performance can do..I honestly thought Mayo had zero chance v Tyrone but as good as mayo were I couldn't believe how tired and lacking of energy Tyrone were, yes maybe the 6 day turnaround hampered them and weren't fully at it...I rewatched it too and was amazed how much space mayo had at times and dominated the kickout at both ends. Taking nothing away from Mayo, showed energy, fight etc.

Onto Donegal in the Hyde..both teams like to run the ball and create scores with slick handpasses, back door cuts etc..will any of them go route one early..I seriously doubt it. Donegal prob one if not the fittest team in the game so it'll be interesting to see counter attacks once turned over..I can see Murphy drifting from full f a bit too . Will Mayo have enough scoring power? Especially 2 pointers, they won't get as much time and space as they did v Tyrone. Its just one big game to go through like old championship football.

S

Sam og says:

A great Win by Mayo v Tyrone and this win has really given us a great lift. Mayo played brilliantly and what I loved was when Tyrone came back to 1 point Mayo went again and put the foot down. How many times have we thrown in the curtain at that stsge in games. Against Galway in the Connaught Final with 20 minutes to go and a Gale at our back we lost the game just could not turn the screw and go for it. This changed v Tyrone. The lads did not back down and drove through the Tyrone defence time and time again .Donegal will be a different Animal . They need to win as well. Therefore it’s imperative we start well and rattle these Donegal lads doing it the Mayo Way. I believe we pump in the high ball into Aido and I would have Boland and Irwin along with ROD forming a diamond around Aido. ROD at the front of this diamond with Aido at the back on the edge of the small square with Boland on the right and Irwin on the left. Neary to come off the bench on 50 minutes with Mc Hale and Dawson. Let Mayo make the O Neill’s rain down on the Donegal Square and stiffle the Donegal Counter. Mayo to win and go through. Two week break a huge help.

To win just once. I cannot agree with your post. I expect mayo to be at least in a semi final. The management team is in its 3rd year. Every team is in some kind of transition. 2021 horan got slaughtered on this blog for losing an all Ireland final. How in the name of God could you say that if we cannot reach a quarter final it's ok... there's always next year. As for men going into moderation that's not a conversation for bloggers. This mayo team is good enough to go much much further.

M

Mikey says:

June 4, 2025 at 10:52 pm

I do not get the fixation with injury updates, if the players wish this to be private then we should respect that. The management should have been more careful in their language in this regard, in hindsight state that there was no update but they were constantly being asked for updates. Great if more players return but all teams have some injuries so move on with whoever is available.

T

to win just once says:

June 4, 2025 at 11:16 pm

I never said it was ok Craggy. I am just being realistic. If we lose to Donegal the chances are that we are out. It won’t be the loss to Donegal that knocked us out, it will be our defeat to Cavan. The point I was making was that , in a year where we have not performed well, that at least a good result v Tyrone gives cause for optimism going forward as we have shown we can defeat a strong team in championship football. It makes no difference what year management are in, it ultimately is the players who will win or lose. We have a lot of good players but are they anything close to what we had 10 years ago. I genuinely hope I am wrong but to defeat Donegal is a big ask. I feel the best teams in the country at the moment are Armagh, Kerry, Donegal. In the next bracket I would say Galway,(though struggling), Tyrone and Dublin. So I would reckon 2 of the best 5 teams are in our group. The pity is that we lost to a team which I doubt will make it to quarter final. By the way this is merely my opinion

B

BatetheBlanket says:

June 5, 2025 at 12:04 am

Does the head-to-head result take precedent over score difference, unfair if a team goes out when they have a higher score difference.

C

Craggy boglands says:

June 5, 2025 at 2:52 am

Bate the blanket. I think it's head to head and yes u have a point. To win just once. I get what you're saying but in the same context we played a great game against Dublin last year and couldn't back it up and this has been a constant problem with us lately. We cannot put only two good performances together. I person believe that we can beat donegal if we play the mayo way. Vary our play. Go long. Go short. Run it. Kick it in. This is only my opinion too but we all want mayo to ?

E

Ever the optimist says:

June 5, 2025 at 5:44 am

O'Donnell and Gallen will require special attention. Not sure Murphy is going to play the whole game so it's not something to get too bogged down with. He'll feature, surely, but he tends to flake a bit too. We could see a very cautious approach from Donegal early doors. They'll try forcing Mayo into long range potshots before turning the screw with blitzkrieg counter attacks. It's going to be Gettysburg meets Waterloo stuff and it's on rte 2 for those unable to attend.

T

TsuDhoNim says:

June 5, 2025 at 8:12 am

@Batetheblanket: H2H if it's 2 teams tied, Score Difference where it's more than 2.

Potential issues with any method of tie-breaking. Score Difference can easily be skewed in a game where one side has nothing to play for (only Armagh Galway this year, so not as relevant as others).

For us:
- Beat Donegal we're 2nd if Cavan win or 1st with any other result there
- Draw & we're 3rd if there's a win in the other game or 2nd if both games end drawn
- Lose & we're 3rd if Cavan beat Tyrone or 4th with any other result there

B

BatetheBlanket says:

June 5, 2025 at 8:36 am

@TSU, Say if Cavan lose to Tyrone by more than 3 points.
Mayo lose to Donegal by 1 point in a lowish scoring game.

Mayo will have a better scoring difference than Cavan.

Tyrone will probably beat Cavan by a few points, more than 4.

S

Supermac says:

June 5, 2025 at 9:13 am

Scoring difference is only relevant on the very unlikely chance both games end up in a draw leaving all 3 teams tied on 3pts, in that eventuality cavan would be goosed anyway as they shipped a big score v donegal

M

Mayonaze says:

June 5, 2025 at 9:18 am

@Craggy …I’d echo your sentiment of QF not being an achievement. Mayo should absolutely be aiming higher. No question. We have a strong panel. The problem for the past 18/24 months has been the form of players. The playing strategy. The substitution strategy and selections. The lack of attention on blooding players in the leagues 2024 and 2025. Too much focus on the provincial championship. Management have not gotten the best out of players; playing lads in questionable positions. Lads walking away but not retiring. It’s not been good at all. There’s far greater potential in this Mayo panel.

Can we get a result v Donegal. 100% we can. I’d be expecting a strong performance and we simply have to avoid defeat to progress. If we do that I’ll say well done boys now focus on the next hurdle. I won’t be in the clap on the back ara sure aren’t ye a great bunch of lads category. If we fail to get the result require then it’ll be a very, very disappointing season for Mayo.

We need to be more ambitious.

I have Mchugh if fit on Langan a dangerous player if not man marked.
Mcbrien would be the man for murphy physically and run the legs off him.
Mogan and Mchugh will take watching on the break.
Matty had a good game the last day, fielded some nice ball, done the simple things right.
He didn't score or did his marker,if he can win ball at mid field and lay it off conserve energy for 70 plus it will be job done.
There's going to be serious battles all over the pitch in this game.
It's do or die from now on.
Can we do it? yes
Will we do it? It's all about attitude on the day.

S

Shuffly Deck says:

June 5, 2025 at 9:47 am

On AOS, agree he could cause a lot of problems if left in. On marking Murphy, I think McBrien has the combination of strength and speed, otherwise Coen. McHugh if fit could be needed for Langan who could do a lot of damage further out if left unattended. McBrearty near the end but still accurate given half a chance and has leaders attitude. Galen is a talent but blows hot and cold within games so need the intensity dialled up to 10 to minimise his impact. Not as worried about their raiding backs, Eoin Ban seems to be sub, must be coming back from injury. Mogan is the other one, Ryan McHugh great player but not so much a scorer. Huge bootstrap to us if their #1 goalie fails to start.

I

InExile says:

June 5, 2025 at 11:34 am

I get what everyone is saying about our progress compared to other years but there is a bit of context needed.

We are most likely in the 2nd toughest group and many of the teams that had a tough provincial final took a defeat in the 1st matches of the qualifiers (Donegal, Galway, ourselves etc).

Looking forward the Donegal game is a massive challenge, facing one of the favoured all Ireland contenders but the win over Tyrone should give us hope. We also saw other glimpses of brilliance as well like the win over Kerry in league, the 2nd half against Armagh in the league and some good patches in the Connacht final.

The win over Tyrone doesn't mean we will beat Donegal but it does show we can beat Donegal. We got the match up's right against Tyrone and if we can do that again as well as bringing that intensity we will be there or there about's against Donegal. We will have to go for goals however as I don't see us getting two many 2 pointers.

T

TsuDhoNim says:

June 5, 2025 at 11:54 am

@InExile: Comparing the stats (with the caveat that Donegal have played a higher rated avg opponent) the 2 pointers is the big difference between the two sides alright, with Donegal kicking 5x more on average. Everything else is relatively nip & tuck between the two.

2ptrs per game = Donegal: 3.0, Mayo: 0.6
2ptrs conceded per game = D: 2.7, M: 2.0
Goals per game = D: 1.2, M: 1.2
Goals conceded per game = D: 0.7, M: 1.0
Total Points For = D: 21.5, M: 20.8
Total Points Against = D: 20.3, M: 18.4

https://x.com/TsuDhoNim/status/1930310767078695387

Both sides relatively low in terms of the scoring stakes, with Donegal 11th out of the 16 sides and Mayo 14th out of the 16 but both keeping things relatively tight at the other end with Mayo the leanest defence of the 16 & Donegal the 3rd tightest (surprisingly enough Meath in 2nd place there).

The stats pretty much backing up what the eye test would say.... we'll need to put in a much better performance than our average this year to win the tie. Thankfully, that's something we'd all (players and management included, I'd imagine) expect to happen.

I

InExile says:

June 5, 2025 at 2:20 pm

@Tsu that really puts it in perspective.
Donegal's number of 2 pointers over us is significant (on average that 6 pts for them straight off the bat).
We either we mark their key 2 point shooters out of the game or up goal scoring rate, which unfortunately is just the same as Donegal at the moment.

C

Craggy boglands says:

June 5, 2025 at 3:19 pm

We are very obsessed about match ups. Against Tyrone we won simply because the lads left everything they had on the pitch coupled with Tyrone being without hampsey and crucially Kennedy in midfield. Now we got a bit of luck there too. A fortuitous goal at the right time and a penalty when we were under the cosh. But after carneygate we finally decided to abandon the negative phycology that has plagued this group for some time now. I get it we have to be cagey at certain times during a game but this is a must win so for the most it has to be all out attacking. Wonder is Jimmy worried about match ups re aos. Not if aos is on the forty no. They won't see him as a big problem out there but if he stays inside Jimmy won't leave him one on one. Its up to us to use aos the best way. Hint. Last few minutes against cavan

T

TsuDhoNim says:

June 5, 2025 at 4:20 pm

@Craggy boglands: That seems to very much ignore how Donegal (or both sides) setup.

Donegal are probably the most zonal side in the country. They don't do matchups in general, with the odd rare exception (RO'D likely, Aido touch and go for even getting a dedicated marker despite his obvious threats & Paddy an outside bet to have a dedicated tracker). So no, McGuinness won't put nearly as much time into matchups as others managers would/have to. Large pros & equally large risks from it, Derry created multiple openings where the untracked runners were left free in dangerous areas off the back of the system, but overall has served them very well with their defence coming in ~3rd tightest despite them playing 5 of the top 10 scoring teams in Sam this year among their 6 games (Cavan being the exception - we'd have only played 2 of the top 10 in our 5 games and only slightly tighter than them).

Mayo, on the other hand with a very different defensive setup (zonal elements but far more detailed & 1v1 defending), will have significantly more lads detailed for their specific match-ups. Any competent manager will certainly invest time into getting them right, so only natural fans will. Not sure too many of us would have had Seán picking up Bradley the last day (or expected Jack on Canavan or Enda on McCurry to go as well as they did - massive credit to all 3 of the lads - to dismiss getting those matchups right feels absurd) so credit for the brave call there. Tyrone are mostly small and nippy inside where their danger is while Donegal can throw size & power inside with Gallen, Langan, Thompson & Murphy, guile in lads like McBrearty, McHugh or Brennan and then the pace and running power from deeper of Mogan, O'Baoill, McHugh, Gallagher, Roarty, various O'Donnell's, McFadden-Ferry or Moore (with a chunk of those a threat from deep for 2s too).

Saying "hunger will win this" is never true in isolation. That's the baseline needed for everything else to be built on, but to suggest things like matchups don't matter or tactics or any of the other factors that impact a game is mistaken. It's a factor that can certainly lose a game on it's own when it's off... but it won't win one in isolation.

Willie joe. Carneygate. Is the day when one brave man said live on air what thousands of non attendees of mayo supporters thought all along. I believe it could be a pivotal moment in championship 2025. Climb mount everest in the nudes... it resonated it's way on to independent paper. I remember nigel reape doing commentary in 2010 against Longford and he was so reluctant to say anything.... well the great martin carney fair play to him did not hold back. Who knows he might just have saved the day for more than the supporters. That's what I call carney gate. A watershed moment hopefully ?

Right, got it now. I’m not sure that moment can (or would want to) claim all the properties you’ve ascribed to it but each to their own, I guess.

High or Low.
I’m trying to figure, which I’d least like to see. A replay of the Cavan game or watch Martin climbing Everest in the nude.

No one has mentioned the fact that it was one of our smallest forwards that got that goal against Tyrone, also Martin Carney is just a commenter on Midwest now,not a manager, give credit to the management team

I wonder how many of the Donegal two pointers were scored from frees by Murphy. One thing we cannot do the next day is concede frees between 50 metres out and the 2 point arc - because Murphy will nail most of these. These kind of two pointer frees can kill a team.

Are small forwards not supposed to score goals

@Southmayo Exile: Glancing at Score Beo, 4.

They'd have hit 6 from dead balls (Murphy with 4 of those along with McBrearty & Langan 1 each) and 8 from play (3 Thompson, 2 Ó Baoill, 1 each Langan, McBrearty & Murphy).

The most pleasing thing for me about Darren's goal and Bric's 2nd point also was that we were most alert and first to react, which was something that cost us in the past. So that alone shows a change of attitude imo.

Michael Murphy has scored 4 tpf’s and 1 tpt from play in the championship so far. Saw it on Twitter yesterday.

S

Sinead37 says:

3 more tpf’s than ROD. Same tpt from play as ROD.
ROD has 1-08 from play so far and MM has 10 pts from play.
1. ROD is overall top scorer of the championship so far.
2. Clifford is joint 2nd with Mulroy from Louth.
3. Finnerty

However just from play
1. Clifford
2. Finnerty
3. Tierney joint with Conlon from Meath

ROD or Murphy don’t feature in top 10 from play. Or any other Mayo or Donegal players.
Galway, Meath and Louth each have two players in the top 10 from play!

@Sinead37: I'd have thought Ryan would have a touch more with 12 from play (1-1 Sligo, 0-4 Leitrim, 0-3 Galway, 0-1 Tyrone). That said, it can be hard finding a single definitive source (or multiple sources that agree) so very open to correction there (I normally use the Examiner & the official county Twitter account and once they agree consider it done).

Darren currently our top scorer from play with 14 (2-8), just outside the top 10 nationally.

Darren McHale - 14 (3.18 avg per 70mins)
Ryan O'Donoghue - 12 (2.40)
Aidan O'Shea - 9 (1.80)
Jack Carney - 6 (1.25)
Matthew Ruane - 6 (1.36)
Stephen Coen - 5 (1.01)
Paddy Durcan - 3 (2.69)
Conal Dawson - 3 (3.28)
Fergal Boland - 3 (6.00)
Davitt Neary - 2 (0.61)
Jordan Flynn - 2 (0.62)
Dylan Thornton - 2 (0.68)
Rory Brickenden - 2 (1.07)
Paul Towey - 2 (1.75)
Jack Coyne - 1 (0.20)
Enda Hession - 1 (0.21)

Martin carney is a very knowledgeable man. A gentleman who played for both mayo and donegal with distinction. When I see 15 mayo men marching behind the artane boys band then I'll give credit to management.

Tsudhonim. Donegal are wide open at the back and it's up to us to exploit that with proper attacking football. Never mind who's going to be a genius with match ups. We have to win this game or it's curtains. So I want rocket s in on top of aos. Ball moving quickly. Urgency. Fight. War. Our 2 corner back s were excellent against dazzler and canavan.

How can people not know the rules of the competition? Head to head if 2 teams are on the same number of points. Cavan won’t be beating Tyrone so it’s win or go home for Mayo.

Any prospect Tommy Conroy might be back. Where are you Tommy 'goals' Conroy, your County needs you?

@InExile: (Biting my lip not to make a Kiltane reference there)

Paddy mentioned the potential for lads to be back and competing for Donegal. So that'd be between Tommy, Eoghan & Diarmuid (possibly Cian, but he's been competing for a little while now as far as we know) there you'd imagine.

Tommy's meant to be training away so hopefully he will make the bench next week.
Can't expect miracles off him with being out so long if he is, but a welcome addition.

I thought the 'goals' title had been passed on.
Either way goals might be needed to beat Donegal on Sunday week whoever they come from.

1

1985 says:

June 6, 2025 at 12:55 pm

Well the current Tommy conroy has scored 4 goals that I can see since his debut.much more a point scorer and even then wouldn’t be prolific.his pace is his main weapon

C

Craggy boglands says:

I m desperate to see Tommy conroy back. I absolutely love him. He's my favourite mayo player. We need him now. Yes we cannot expect miracle s but he is different class ?

As I said on another thread we weren't expecting miracles from Paddy on his return and... hey presto ,he slots right in like he was never away.
We need to win or draw the next day... I'm convinced we'll see Tommy from qf stage.... possibly even a cameo in the Hyde....ssh!

I

InExile says:

June 6, 2025 at 2:33 pm

If we don't see Tommy so be it, but if these lads are anyway fit we should throw the kitchen sink at it. Might be the last opportunity this year.
