There was no fairytale finish to Kilmeena’s Connacht club championship story as they lost out to Strokestown in Sunday’s Intermediate provincial decider.
The Mayo champions were beaten by 4-11 to 0-14 in Castlebar on a day when it seemed like playing a third game in 14 days caught up with them.
Mike and Aidan Kilcoyne were there to chat about the game, as well as why Mayo clubs are struggling to win Connacht titles. The lads also look ahead to Kiltimagh’s Connacht Junior club final clash with Aughavas next weekend.

All the talk about player welfare is just that - talk.
The GAA are only interested in one thing and we all know what that is. Willie Joe, 3 games in 14 days is disgraceful. The Leinster Final is the 14 th December so what's the rush. I'm not from Kilmeena but obviously as a Mayo Man I think they should have refused to play it if it wasn't put back a week.

Very excited for the u21 final this coming Saturday at 1:30 in mchale park. Claremorris have serious fire power upfront with Adam and Darragh Beirne along with Niall Hurley. While Conal Dawson will look to drag Westport over the line. It’s been a fantastic campaign with some cracking matches this one should be no different!

@Square Ball, fully agree I think it has all the makings of a pre-Christmas cracker... I wonder are Mayo gaa TV covering the game or will there be radio commentary? There will be serious talent on both sides with Westport having Finbar McLoughlin, Conal Dawson, the Holmes, leading their charge with Lorcan Silke back in great form. They have looked strong through all their games. Claremorris as you have highlighted have the Hurley's and Beirnes , supported by a good defensive unit of Gilmore, Mortimer, Noonan, Slattery etc. Setup for a great game, I hope the neutrals also get out and enjoy it and give this competition the level of support it deserves....its 50/50 in my view given their earlier round robin game was a draw....

@SticksForTheReek
What is that one thing that the GAA are interested in that you refer to in your post? Please elaborate and substantiate

New pod up on Patreon. This is the latest in our We Need to Talk About Mayo series, in which Rob, Ed, Mike and I chat about issues relating to the recent announcement from Mayo GAA that they intend to appoint a CEO in the near future.

I'm away this weekend so can't make the under 21 final. Would be fantastic if Mayo covered it. As per previous posters outstanding talent on show.
I see the brother of Niall, Dara hit 1-1 for NUIG last night. Morahan priminent for UL with 1-2 from centre back

@Clubman
The Mayo lads in the UL team came up with 1-18 of the overall 2-20 score which is great to see.
I wonder where Dara Hurley is at currently. He had a really bad injury that stopped him in his tracks and i remember Tsu saying that most in Claremorris thought he was at least the equal of his brother at the time. Did Andy name check him recently or am i making that up?
