Mayo Football Podcast episode: Here Comes the Weekend – it’s the Rossies again!

Another local derby against Roscommon awaits Mayo this weekend as the All-Ireland series continues.

Colm Boyle joins Mike to set the scene for the third meeting of the teams in three months and to pore over the team selections that have been announced.

The lads also talk about tactics, match-ups and how Mayo can get motivated after already having beaten the Rossies twice this year.

Plus, the lads talk about Mayo’s place in the overall pecking order given the recent form shown by the other All-Ireland title contenders.

With Diarmuid out this is going to be a tight game. I would take a one point win and no injuries. Roscommon will have targeted this game and their supporters will be ready to roar them on. We supporters have to be ready to cheer on the mayo team and be as loud as possible. I really think it will be the supporters who will get the team over the line tomorrow
It will be a lovely day so get in early and really shout loudly to support the team.

I wonder what plan of action McStay has to deal with the very dangerous Roscommon full forward line. Going one on one would be leaving us very exposed at the back, so it will be interesting to see how the team sets up for for this one!

This really is a make or break game for this Mayo team.

The Hyde banana skin has just got slipper, with Diarmuid out. We will do well to come away with a win tomorrow and I would not be putting money on it. We are really not in the hunt for Sam this year now, so it is a matter of going as far as we can and getting experience into our younger lads. With the bad injuries, the pressure is kinda off us now, so I would love to see us take off the shackles and just go for it.

Did Aido, Cillian, Tommy and Ryan ever all start a match for us together before?

They would have started together back in 2021 before Cillians injury

Are you sure about that 1985, Cillian was injured in a league match as far as I remember. Maybe they played together in the league.

You are right 1985, they all started in the semi when Cillian scored 4-9 v Tipperary. Surprisingly Ryan did not score that day!
