Mayo Football Podcast episode: Final Whistle – Crossmolina fulfil date with destiny

There were emotional scenes at Croke Park today as Crossmolina beat Ballinderry in the All-Ireland Intermediate club final in the most dramatic of circumstances.

A penalty from Conor Loftus six minutes into added time won the day and sparked scenes of bittersweet emotions and celebrations.

Mike and John were there to witness history being made, and we also hear from Crossmolina manager Brian Benson, man of the match Níall Coggins and Fionan Duffy.

This new podcast episode is now online and is available to our club members on Patreon – it’s HERE. To get access to this show and to all our other great content, for as little as €1 a week, join the club HERE.

I was in Croker today . I'm not from Crossmolina but have to admit I shed tears witnessing the raw mixture of emotions from the Crossmolina team and Community after the final whistle.
All the lads played their part .
Conor Loftus, who has got plenty of stick on this blog in the past!! , played brilliantly at centre back .and stuck his penalty well.
What a player. What a man . What a club .
On an aside , maybe we as people comment on blog could going forward remember that Gaa players are amateurs.
Congratulations Cross , enjoy the warm embrace of your wonderful parish .

Well said My Ball. Really agree with everything you have said, both about Conor and the respect we should show to our players who always go out and give their best. Also a wee shout to Ballinderry. By all accounts they were very reasonable and decent in their behaviour towards Crossmolina over the last few weeks. They must be absolutely gutted to lose it the way they did but seemed gracious in defeat afterwards.

Yes, Ballyinderry were very gracious and respectful. It was very hard for them, the way the game ended. But I think after yesterday, Ballinderry will have a place and great respect in Crossmolina hearts. If anything, a strange friendship was formed. So proud of Cross.
