Rob and Mike are joined on the pod by Paddy Finnegan to discuss the main talking points from last week’s Mayo GAA Board meeting.
As it transpired, that meeting — and this show — was dominated by the topic of the Mayo senior management team review which isn’t due to conclude until next month.
This new podcast episode is now online and is available to our club members on Patreon – it’s HERE. To get access to this pod and to all our other great content for as little as €1 per week, join the club HERE.

Not sure too much can be read into this review. It's all about optics with county boards now, countrywide, with certain columnists in national media stirring the porridge rather eagerly about alleged payments et al.

A good podcast; that hit the right notes in terms of what most supporters ‘on the ground’ are thinking and saying.
The more telling element the pod was just the ridiculous situation of finances and more specifically , that no funding initiative was put in place for New York. Very little has actually been said on this because I think so many are totally baffled by it!? Like, it borders on negligence by those at the helm. I just cannot understand it.
The most interesting ‘review’ being conducted and arguably far more important is the overview of the Academy. This is crucial. Absolutely fundamental in shaping future success and despite our county board continued failure with regard to COE, there should be no excuse for not being able to implement a youth programme which puts us at the very top of the game. We aren’t there yet, obviously. A glance at results will tell you all you need to know.
Finally, Paddy Finnegan is excellent to listen to. Strikes me as an astute, articulate and intelligent guy who takes a common sense approach. Rather than being in Claregalway, he’s exactly the kind of person Mayo need at county board level. I’m just concerned that we don’t have the best people in the important positions. We get fed the same guff every year. We are making very little progress outside the white lines…that senior BD position and Commercial
Director slots were told would be filled a year ago. I said it here at the time, that it’s just more of the usual hot air we get pitched at us every year after Mayo get knocked out. Same stuff, different year.

It would be some review if Galway had won the final.
While taking off oShea was a mistake, the ref cost us the Connaught final.
Player errors cost us against Derry and Dublin.
Players need to smarten up.
In a club game here in Meath I saw a back getting a forward mark and immediately going down injured allowing a forward to take the kick.

JR taking Aido off didn't just happen v Galway unfortunately.
The stories around why the board wouldn't fundraise are mad. Whether they will come out in public is hard to know, these things usually do eventually.
Presumably with our tax compliance issue..
Looking forward to this weekends games, Ballina v Westport being streamed, but it's a bit of a dead rubber. While both would like the win I'd say Westport be far less bothered by having a home QF given their preference for running game, a bigger pitch would suit.
OnAhRefPod all 3 pundits going for Bellmullet in other senior televised game. At 3/1 it's definitely the value bet. With Knockmore missing McHale, Dempsey, Holmes, Parks, Timlin and possibly Naughton and Bellmullet with Ryan and Eoin O'Donoghue back I'd have thought they'd be favourites to win. Odds may have changed since pod released given how generous they were.
Third game is tonight, between Hollymount Carramore and Davits, which tough one to call, wouldn't be familiar enough with H-C to make call on that one, but great have game to watch.

Agree with Mayonaze, most important item should be the academy. For those who are involved with u16 and minor age groups you will know how disjointed the academy was working this week.
Regards New York fundraising, surely there is a template there from previous trips that worked. Mayo Gaa still creates a buzz and this needs to be tapped into before it's too late. Look at some other counties that were traditionally strong gaelic counties and now are no where near the top table, can happen to any county that takes their eye off the ball!

An Irish Indo reporter once wrote a full page article titled "Led by Donkeys". In the article, which was roundly criticised and led the journalist to offer an apology, the writer had the management team as the donkeys, leading the players into mistake after mistake. The article was correct, only the county board are the donkeys (and have been for years) and leading everything below them blindly, without resources or structure. There are junior clubs better organized and more professional than our county board. Our county teams succeed INSPITE Of, not because of, our county board.
