Mayo Football Podcast episode: Club Championship weekend round-up

The dust is beginning to settle after a frantic weekend of club action within the county as the first shots were fired in this year’s Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships.

Rob and John were out and about at matches right through the weekend and in this review show they look back at the games they got to and they also reflect on the rest of the weekend’s results.

From this afternoon’s games we hear from Knockmore’s Darren McHale following their win over Balla and there’s also post-game audio from Garrymore’s co-manager Fintan Forde as well as Crossmolina’s manager Brian Benson and full-back Kevin Mulhern who provide reaction to their dramatic draw. The show also features match analysis from Colm Boyle on the Westport/Mayo Gaels and Castlebar Mitchels/Belmullet matches and from Edwin McGreal on the Ballaghaderreen/Claremorris game.

This new podcast episode is now online and is available to our club members on Patreon. To get access to this show and to all our other great content, for as little as €1 a week, join the club HERE.

The Mayo Football Podcast has partnered with EBS — The Mortgage Masters — this season.

EBS are looking to hear from Mayo supporters who are living at home or abroad who might be looking for some mortgage advice.

Brilliant work lads on covering the games. Given Mayo GAA TV only did 3 games (very little) we are relying on your efforts for good roundup of games, for those of not living in the county in particular.

Great to hear of the hard work and development of younger players across the clubs. Hopefully this augurs well for Mayo and while I didn’t see any standout performances from the u20 lads in the three streamed games, it was good to see these lads involved and hearing of you speak of good performances elsewhere. Real shame the Belmullet Cbar game wasn’t streamed. Other counties had far better coverage of their club championships.

Great to hear Gibbons is still lording midfield. It really does make you think…oh, how Mayo could have done with him in the 21 final. A big fella who could catch primary possession and dictate the flow of a game. We were crying out for someone with his skillset. If it were me, I might have referenced that Rob, rather than AFL

Loved the Bartman reference! Actually dressed up as him for a Halloween fancy dress about ten years ago at a nite club in Mullingar….Renegades top, green polo neck, cubbies cap and Walkman style ear phones. One person identified me, so it was worth it:)

Any Junior team of the week Willie Joe?

Michael Moran - no, we don’t stretch to a Junior team of the week, I’m afraid. No doubt we’d get rightly hosed for hyping lads up too much if we did!
