Mayo Football Podcast episode: Chatting with Emlyn Mulligan

The build-up to a Connacht SFC semi-final has rarely been as subdued, but Leitrim’s run of bad results this season means that Saturday’s game in Carrick-on-Shannon against Mayo will be played against a very stark background for the home side.

Mike caught up with former Leitrim footballer, Emlyn Mulligan, to hear more about the feeling on the ground in his home county and to see what he thinks about Mayo’s chances of making an impact on this summer’s championship.

This podcast episode is now online and is available to our club members on Patreon. To get access to this show and to all our other great content, for as little as €1 a week, join the club HERE.

The Mayo Football Podcast has partnered with EBS — The Mortgage Masters — this season.

EBS are looking to hear from Mayo supporters who are living at home or abroad who might be looking for some mortgage advice.

EBS have very generously provided two free tickets for Saturday’s Connacht Championship match between Mayo and Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon. We’re making these tickets available to one lucky Patreon club member and details of the competition for the tickets have already been sent to all of our club members.

If Division 1 opposition plays Division 3 or 4 is there any merit in considering that the 3 up rule should not apply to the weaker side

No. you can't have different rules depending on opposition.
You'd end up with everyone trying to get relegated in the league!

It the problem with provisional championship. Going to get mismatches. But could argue even the all Ireland series, you have division 1 teams beating division 2 teams with little effort.

Provincial system is dead and is only waiting to be put out of commission. Simply doesn’t work anymore and unfortunately will need to be dispatched sooner rather than later.

@Rock, it's classic GAA (football structures) decision making. They've been trying to get rid of the provincials for nearly 10 years and keep faffing around the edges, so much so that we have provincials that barely matter anymore. Just grasp the nettle and do it. It's holding the sport back.

To be fair to the suits in HQ, it's Ulster that keeps saying no lads. As one wise old owl was overhead saying, it's no to everything, the question is entirely irrelevant.

Jesus, talk about a risk averse selection - and that's just the subs I'm talking about!
