Mayo Football Podcast episode: Chatting with Andy Moran

The Mayo manager joined us at the launch of our Club Stars awards on Monday.

So Rob took the opportunity to chat with Andy about everything from his first few months in the role to how the squad is taking shape to his recent trips to London and America to meet some Mayo supporters abroad.

This new podcast episode is now online and is available to our club members on Patreon. To get access to this show and to all our other great content, for as little as €1 a week, join the club HERE.

The awards night for this year’s Mayo Football Podcast Club Stars with Eirgrid will take place at the Knockranny House Hotel on Saturday 13th December.  Tickets for the event will go on sale shortly.

The Mayo Football Podcast has partnered with EBS — The Mortgage Masters — this season.

EBS are looking to hear from Mayo supporters who are living at home or abroad who might be looking for some mortgage advice.

He'd lift clouds never mind your humour. His optimism would give you great excitement for 26. Connaught title will be the benchmark year 1. Every faith in him.
Bang of fundraising for the centre of excellence off his trips to the diospra

when is he bringing Keegan back

M

Maggie says:

November 11, 2025 at 2:03 pm

Keegan is smarter than that. He knew when it was time to pass on the baton.

C

Clare says:

November 11, 2025 at 2:50 pm

Keegan left to be with his young kids while they grew up .

It's great that Andy is giving time for Cillian .

Love how Andy can let the public know whats going on and mention a few players who are back in, and that little bit of info given to local media or pods isnt going to make a slight bit of difference on the field next summer. Its refreshing rather than the shitty dripfeed we had the last 3 years.Hope the public gets behind Andy and Colm now in the League and we get back to the 10k plus attendances in McHale park and let the lads experiment even if we do have a few losses in the League and judge them on there Championship performance.

Positive interview with Andy, he has to be given a bit of rope for inexperience as a manager but the combination with Boyle should make them fast learners.
Offaly- isn't that the county that has the services of Rochford. Interesting opening to the moran/boyle era.

Maggie - did your mother never tell you that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?

Clare - did your mother never advise you that it's not clever to respond to everyone seeking to get a rise out of you?

Let that be the end of this nonsense from the pair of you now.

Willie Joe, it wasn’t an attempt at sarcasm, it was an attempt to get across the message that this is a discussion board for people who have an interest in football and should not be dominated by one person responding to most comments purporting to speak on behalf of many clubs and individuals. Maybe it was a poorly executed for which I apologise. Like Leeroy, I recognise it is time to retire. Hope all genuine football supporters on here have a very successful year ahead.

It is indeed ontheditch, don't think it's the first match planned though. Looks like a practice run before that.
Best of luck to all the new players and management for the year ahead. And the returnees from past panels of course! Doesn't look like there will be any other returnees from past squads this year. So plenty of opportunities for new lads.

I heard him say Brian O malley for midfield too , then he said about the ballina boys .
Hopefully an experienced man same age as Plunkett is Conor Loftus whom will also come back.

Lovely to hear Andy speak so normal rather than previous managers, plural of manager not just Kevin and Rochie but good stuff all same

Catol
Brian O'Malley Westport
Niall Hurley Claremorris
Eoin McGreal Garrymore

Clare says:

Brian O ' Malley of westport is a good call.

I think Andy will really shake things up.

Great he is keeping us informed of challenge matches already unlike the last 3 years where we had to go guessing nearly !

Jesus WJ....your life would be alot simpler without the comments section on this blog.

W

Willie Joe says:

November 12, 2025 at 7:08 am

It would for sure, FreeTheEastBank, but then again that’s also what gives it real purpose. It’s fine by and large but the long absence of inter-county action seems to be taking its toll where some are concerned.

J

No not mentioned by Andy, I am sure it will be left to himself, but would be a welcome addition.
He did mention that the new will not suit all players.

@Thedarkyfinn...

Tbf if its the same panel list i seen doing the rounds on twitter then pretty much every footballer in Mayo appears to be on that one lol. A 90 strong panel of anyone half decent in the county no less. Id be calling BS on that one

GBXI says:

McGreal from Garrymore is class. Will be a great addition to the defense adding much needed pace. John McMonagle will be very close to a starting spot as well, future captain.

C

CDR says:

November 12, 2025 at 10:43 pm

McGreal is just like Keith Higgins. So fast he has the same way of running. Hopefully we go back to playing sticky corner backs in their correct position rather than playing natural half backs in the full back line. Callinan was wasted there the last few years although was probably needed there at times.
If we could produce scoring forwards like we can produce good half backs we would be laughing!

J

Jr says:

November 12, 2025 at 10:52 pm

I think the way forward is half backs that can kick pass to the inside forwards.
You cannot give the opposition time to get back by passing the ball around in your own half.

Catcol says:

Interesting stuff on McGreal there CDR, and GBXI. Hadn’t heard of him.

Oh, now that I’ve checked the archives, I see he was on that v good u20 team this year. Substituted a few times I noted.

I'd agree on McGreal. It was very noticable when he went off injured against the Rossies last year, that their danger man (who's name I forget now) came in to the game and was the beating of us.

G

GBXI says:

November 13, 2025 at 10:37 am

I think they were injuries, Catcol. First time I saw him I said he looked like a young Keith Higgins - not saying he will be that good but you can't teach pace.

Why was conor reid srop scored a goal against dublin in first round of league last year.

Started most of league games

Had a good club championship bar the second half in county final could have been carrying an injury
