Well done Austin, doing great job. Hope they win it now. Be worried about how I effective our clubs are once they get out of Mayo. While we some great players in our senior clubs, a bit like Mayo, now better than sum of parts.

I see Donegal are heading to Abu Dhabi in the next few days for a training camp ( The 42.ie). They'll get a tan, but will it win them an All Ireland ? Time will tell

Delighted for Austin O Malley who was a class forward but was practically ignored by John Maughan until he ran out of options in the All Ireland semi final against Kerry and despite Mayo getting hammered Austin was the star player scoring I think 5 points and getting the Man of the Match award. Despite the miserable result for the Mayo team I came out of Croke Park with my head held high as a proud Louisburgh man. Fair play also to a proper manager Mick O'Dwyer a few years later even when Austin was past his prime he got Austin to play for Wicklow and he was their best forward also. Hopefully he can guide Cuala to go all the way but I'm sure the Ulster champions will have something to say about that.

I think that was a quarter final against Kerry in 2005 and we only lost by 3 or 4 points and Austin o Malley was very good that day but I suppose all managers have different reasons for selections but o malley certainly could score

I've a feeling the Connacht champions could win it outright. Cuala very suspect with a nervy looking keeper.

Time to use Aiden OShea as a proper full forward......

I agree Mark re semi final anyway. Cuala haven't impressed me - they seem a bit flaky. Coolera should be toughened up by the manner of their wins in Connacht.

Congrats to Austin on the achievements with Cuala. I think the big test will come from Ulster opposition which is no surprise. Win an AI with Cuala and he will be guaranteed the mayo job in the future. Oh actually sorry under this current CB, because Austin has not managed a senior IC team then he will be deemed not good enough. But in all seriousness all the best to a mayo man trying to get any club over the line. Would be great to see him do it.

The spine of our side is what could potentially win Sam next year if selected correctly. For me, our best central spine is:
1. Colm Reape
3. David McBrien
6. Diarmuid O'Connor
8. Mathew Ruane 9. Jordan Flynn
11. Ryan O'Donoghue
14. Aidan O'Shea
Mgmt need to start there and get that solid.
Aidan O'Shea under the new rules can be really productive.
We need a centre back with size, power and passing. We do not need a centre back charging forward undermining our defensive shape. Diarmuid has never been tried there at county level.

Agree about Diarmuid, hasn't bothered the scoreboard too much in club or county for the last 2 years.

I must say the news coming out of the county board tonight is so so disappointing. I know there were rumours going around but the fact that the revenue are reviewing the Mayo CB is just a genuine embarrassment. You add to the fact that the media aren’t allowed attend the next CB meeting coupled with the cancellation of the convention. Like people may sometimes forget that the clubs have to pay a way to support the activities of the county board. This is just not acceptable and something very serious needs to be done at an administrative level in Mayo right now.

Embarrassing is right. We are the laughing stock of the country both on and off the field. Mayo GAA needs a complete clear out and overhaul.

Hard to know what to say , we are a fookin disaster . This might not go as well as other counties in trouble , some serious shite been goin round the last week or so . You’d be sick to the teeth of it all

@yew_tree: I'm not sure how Mayo are a laughingstock when Galway & Wexford have both also disclosed their audits, both with expected liabilities too, and the comments from those involved saying the audits are likely to be extended to all county boards and including some clubs.
Doesn't seem especially like a Mayo problem so much as a GAA one.
With nearly all the focus on '18/'19 for all 3 counties that have disclosed (rumours were 6 when it initially broke, so likely a few more to come public yet) and it's all to date revolving around ref expenses and PAYE. So far it looks a little more like an issue arising centrally on guidance when it's across multiple County Boards rather than a local one. Couldn't imagine all county boards happening by chance to be making such comparable mistakes independently.
(If it's for the closed door stance, fair enough. I'd fully agree that's a mistake, though wouldn't word it quite so strongly)
Southmayo Exile says:

This tax issue confirms that running a county board is no longer a job for well intentioned volunteers. It's a multi million euro business that should be run by suitably qualified full time paid professionals.
Jr says:
December 5, 2024 at 11:09 pm
Before people throw stones perhaps they should look at how their own club managers are paid expenses.
GAA headquarters should operate the PAYE for all coaches paid by each county.
Clare says:
December 5, 2024 at 11:12 pm
@JR exactly..
And it's not just mayo in trouble here. It goes on in every county.
Green&Red says:
December 5, 2024 at 11:25 pm
Why is it that we are worried about other counties and what they do. It’s a childish way of looking at things. If the other 31 counties were under review by the revenue that doesn’t mean mayo should jump in on the same boat. This is a county board who fucked up a review process on mayo senior management. Who are up to their neck in stadium debt. Who completely messed up the seeding of a pitch last year. A CB who block media from attending some meetings (even Donald Trump doesn’t do that), who postpone a convention for no clear reason (until now). A CB who failed to do any fundraising in NY, which now looks worse and a CB who took the guts of a year to appoint a chairperson to the head of Cairde Mayo, one of the counties biggest revenue streams. At what stage can we say this is enough?
TsuDhoNim says:
December 5, 2024 at 11:38 pm
@Green&Red: Because Revenue have looked at a number of counties (3 have gone public, each reporting comparable issues from similar time frames) and have indicated (indirectly through a number of those County Boards) they're expanding the investigation nationwide.
If that doesn't suggest it's a systemic GAA problem rather than a local Mayo one, I'm not sure what would or could for you.
There are plenty of valid criticisms (some mentioned - fundraising primary among them IMHO) to throw at our County Board if you'd wish to. It doesn't mean it's valid to randomly hurl abuse on something that is likely, on all the evidence to date, due to guidance rather than individual error.
Jr says:
December 6, 2024 at 12:30 pm
I think that the CB are dealing with this in a very responsible way.
They made a voluntary disclosure to Revenue and in it they assessed the amount of tax due as is a legal requirement.
They did this I feel in good faith.
It seems to me that Revenue, probably through experience with other counties deemed other payments to be taxable.
From a tax point of view expenses and bonus payments are a mine field.
Croke Park should buy PAYE software, liaise with Revenue and do the payroll for all counties in the Republic.

Mayomagic maybe it's just me but I'm sick of these alternate jerseys.
Green & Red.
And our away Jersey should be either Red & Green or the White of Connacht.
Blue, black, pink whatever has absolutely nothing to do with Mayo!
Rant over:)

For those who haven't seen the new alternative jersey, it's here. The merit of any design is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but, from a colour-blind perspective this new jersey is light years better than what we had this year and last. At least when we play the like of Cork and Louth next I'll be able to distinguish between the teams!
Bonni Boyler says:
December 6, 2024 at 2:13 pm
Agree Mayomagic / Mayo Focus. No idea what the colour or design is about.
The Silver lining is its a slight improvement on the training top of a Red Jersey and it as WJ points out is easier to pick out for the Colour Blind.
Think we should hark back to the white for alternative Jerseys.
The Alternative Keepers Jersey isn't bad.

GlasagusDearg. says:

It seems likely the this revenue problem will eventually affect all counties. This is a consequence of lack of knowledge at County Board level and complete lack of guidance from HQ. County boards cannot be expected to hire finance/tax experts, but the GAA can and the onus is on them to provide guidance and so they must take some responsibility for this state of affairs.

WJ that jersey is absolutely dreadful. How on earth was that chosen.
Willie Joe says:
December 7, 2024 at 10:49 pm
Don't look at me, Mayonaze, I didn't pick it! All I'm interested in is whether it can help me and other colour-blind folk tell us from the other lot if there's a colour clash and I think it will do that. Those oddly arranged stripes on it are apparently a representation of the Reek. I'm not gone on that aspect of it but each to their own.
