Mayo Football Podcast Club Stars Senior Team of the Week

Following the weekend’s county senior semi-finals and the relegation final we have another Mayo Football Podcast Club Stars Team of the Week selection for you.

Moclair Cup holders Ballina Stephenites lead the way in this week’s selection with five players. Ballaghaderreen, edged out by the Stephenites after extra-time yesterday, have four players on the team, while Knockmore, who overcame Breaffy after extra-time in yesterday’s other semi-final, have three players. Breaffy have two players on the team and Belmullet, who beat Kilmeena in Saturday’s relegation final, have one.

Knockmore’s duo Aidan Kilcoyne and John Brogan are the the Managers of the Week.

Here’s this week’s Club Stars Senior Team of the Week. Let us know what you think of the selection in the comments.

I'm afraid Clarkie is only there to make up the first 5 David's. I'd have Colm Reape. Kept Knockmore in the game for long periods yesterday.

McBrein and Callinan very strong out at half back line where they can seriously influence a game. I expect mayo will slot them into full back line, much to our loss.
Strong argument for starting the championship earlier, improving chances of weather and also two weeks between games, once it gets to knockout.
A lot of promising performances, the new Mayo panel will be fascinating

The three important D's of Mayo full backline play.
David Drake David McBrien David McHale.
Kieran King sitting in front.
For me that's the best and proven stoppers in Mayo football.

@CP I think he’s definitely worth a few trial games anyway, primarily for his line-breaking ability. There are few better at that than Ivers and in the modern game of blanket defences, it’s a powerful attitude to have in the locker. I was really hoping to see Carney go well in the championship. It didn’t really happen for him. Kilmeena just not good enough.

I know we all look out for the younger lads…under 20/21 for future prospects but I think Mayo need to look at a number of lads in the 22-25 age group. There have been plenty in championship who have shown some potential. Equally, there are fellas who have been in the mayo set up for the past 2 years and failed to sparkle for their clubs. I’d have real question marks now over some. It’ll be an interesting few months ahead.
