Looking ahead to the Armagh game

Looking ahead to the Armagh game

It’s another quick turnaround for Andy Moran’s Mayo team in this year’s NFL Division One campaign. Armagh come to town on Sunday for a Round 5 clash that throws in at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park at the earlier time of 1.15pm. Meath’s David Coldrick is the ref for the game.

While we’ve met the Orchard County often enough in recent years, 2019 was the most recent time we welcomed them to Castlebar. That was in a Round 3 qualifier match in that year’s Championship, which we were relieved to emerge from with a one-point win.

You then have to go all the way back to 2011 for our most recent League match against them at Sunday’s venue. That oddity is, though, partly explained by our peripatetic League campaign of 2022 when the pitch redevelopment works were being carried out at MacHale Park and we used a variety of venues in neighbouring counties as stand-in home-from-home venues. When we played Armagh in Round 4 of the League that year – beating them by two points – we did so at Dr Hyde Park.

The most recent time we’ve played them at all was twelve months ago at the Athletic Grounds, when we secured a share of the spoils following a determined second half comeback. Armagh were still the defending All-Ireland champions at that stage but last summer their hopes of back-to-back Sam Maguire successes came a cropper at the quarter-final stage.

They made it to the Ulster final last year but were edged out by Donegal in that Anglo-Celt Cup decider by the minimum margin after-extra time. Drawn into the toughest of the groups, alongside Dublin, Galway and Derry, they emerged as group winners on points difference, beating Derry and Dublin before losing narrowly to Galway. A free-scoring Kerry then had eight points to spare over them in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

Armagh began this year’s Division One campaign in fine style, crushing Monaghan by twelve points at Clones in the opening round. Since then things have gone badly awry for the Orchard lads, however, which means that they’ll be pitching up at our gaff on Sunday off the back of three successive defeats, which have left them in peril of dropping down to Division Two for next year.

Galway plundered a one-point win from their visit to the Athletic Grounds in Round 2 and then Roscommon became the second Connacht side to beat them this year when they had three points to spare over them at Dr Hyde Park in Round 3. Yesterday, back at the Athletic Grounds, they saw Donegal leave with the points after a 1-20 to 0-19 win for the table-topping visitors.

Those three losses leave Armagh on just two points after four rounds of games. They’re level on points with Dublin, with the latter’s inferior points difference placing them in one of the two relegation spots. At this stage of the campaign it appears likely that it’ll either be the All-Ireland champions of 2023 or their successors in 2024 who’ll be accompanying Monaghan through the relegation trapdoor when it springs open a month from now.

The position Kieran McGeeney’s charges find themselves in means they’ll be coming to Castlebar hell-bent on getting a result against us. They had a goal to spare over us, by the way, on that aforementioned 2011 visit (on a day when one Billy Joe Padden lined out in orange incidentally) so a similar outcome would be just the boost they could do with to kick-start the fight to avoid the drop.

Sitting on six points after four games with the best points difference in the division and the head-to-head advantage over Galway and Dublin as well as Monaghan, we can – advanced mathematical gymnastics aside – consider ourselves safe enough at this stage. This means that Sunday’s meeting with Armagh isn’t a must-win game for us in the same way as it is for them.

That doesn’t, though, mean we won’t want to win it. Andy Moran spoke after the game yesterday about the need to respect what’s sure to be a (Kobe-fuelled) bumper home crowd the next day and he said he wanted to make sure he puts out a team that’s competitive with Armagh. Notwithstanding this, however, there’s a real opportunity for us to experiment now and you’d expect Andy and his colleagues to make use of this welcome chance to mix the selection up a bit.

Perhaps in light of the above, we’re no more than narrow favourites to prevail on Sunday. At this stage in the League, of course, it’s impossible to take games such as this at face value, in light of the different imperatives each side faces and where each of them are at in terms of planning ahead to the summer.

Despite all that, though, it’s still worth taking a temperature check on our chances for the next day. So let’s finish on that: how will we fare against Armagh on Sunday?

Will we beat Monaghan?

Feel we will put it up to Armagh though .

While I agree that this is not a must win game, this is probably the game that I think would be most beneficial in winning of the three remaining. Winning is a good habit, and in particular at home. We have struggled with Ulster teams in the past, and Armagh are a tough physical team, I think that we can experiment but also look to win. While Andy may not want to lose to the Rossies, he may want to have some surprises come the likely championship meeting later in the year so I would have more changes for the last two games.

Predicted team for Armagh

Hennelly
Coyne McHugh Hession
Callinan Loftus Durcan
Touhy McBrien
Carney O'Donoghue Flynn
Beirne O'Shea Boland

I hate naming an unchanged side, but we have a real opportunity to build momentum and form before going down to Tralee for a right crack at the reigning AI champions.

Few tough decisions for Andy as he tries to sort his championship panel. Coyne, not really firing last couple of games, I'd be looking at Brickenden or Morahan. Sam at 5 and Durcan at 7 are picking up points. CHB is not sorted, I think McBrien is the answer. Loftus versatile sub, can play anywhere. Midfield Tuohy plus Thornton or Carney.
The 10 jersey up for grabs, Dawson for me.
Ff up for grabs, carr deserves another chance with Cian McHale coming in early second half. Darren McHale may be back in contentionn too.

Expect huge crowd next Sunday given what Kobe did yesterday, everyone will want to see this lad in action. Plan needed at end of the game if he is playing, likely to attract huge attention similar to the way Clifford gets mobbed!

C

CPAMG says:

Didn't Andy mention something about trying to make 4 or so changes between games in his post match interview so reckon we'll see 3/4 again for Armagh. Could be one something like Morahan for Coyne, McHale for Beirne and a look at someone else as a half forward option - O'Connor or Howard?. Ruane was due back mid league so he might make a surprise appearance.

Hard to keep a lid on the Kobe talk now but Andy did the right thing keeping him out of certain games where let's behonest he would get a lot more attention.
Yesterday was the perfect game for him to come into.
Hes still at kid at the end of the day and it's a terrible shame he is leaving and we may not ever see him reach his peak.
Theres a lot of expectation on a young lad and Andy will surely have looked at how Kerry managed Clifford or Seanie and will do likewise with Kobe.

I don’t think coyne should be dropped, needs more game time. I would rest hession as he’s played every game plus every game last year, rest callinan as he’s played a lot as well. Bring in Morahan and either plunkett, coen or brickenden. I think brickenden could be a very good half back. I’d start cian mchale full forward as any time i’ve seen him this year he’s looked good. As well i’d try Livingston in goal. Good for the sub goalie to get game time

McMonagle was togged with Mayo in the warm up last week. Would lead me to believe he is being primed by Andy for a run. That may be off the bench and Brick to start.

My theory is Hession, Callinan, Flynn and AOS have played every game so far so could be rotated. Mchale deserves a shot at some point and we know already Beirne is the real deal. Carney needs more game time.
Andy name checked Seamus Howard in post match presser. Would like to see Conal Dawson also in the remaning games.

The fella who has scored more than anyone else every in Gaelic football is back training a couple of weeks also

Id suggest this isnt the game for resting lads but , see it as the last proper tester before Connaught.
Armagh are going to come all guns blazing .

With Jordan flynn maturing into a leader , I dont think we should leave him out of this game , id go pretty much same lineup bar AOS or coyne if they need resting, definetly a game for one, if not the two castlebar boys to add steel to the defence .
Theres a few lads on the peripherals of the squad and team who are suited to big fielding and tougher battles and maybe Howard and Moran are options but when Tuohy and Mcbrien are hitting form , its hard to drop them plus what the halfbacks and halfforwards are learning in their relationships with midfielders. Takes time to read breaks or call breaks so while its going good leave middle 8 to learn from each other . Its an attritional area and be lucky to have all fit and rearing to go at same time , so best take advantage of it .

An old favourite of forwards discussion in towey has to be under serious pressure, hes got his chances , now has 2 Mchales, Irwin, Kobe, Carr, Cillian all after at least that position on bench.
Id be less sympathetic and just see it as how things progress and we do want to progress so , next inline please

Sunday forecast not great otherwise I'd expect a huge crowd for this one. Andy did say they aim for 4 changes per game so there will be a few changes but I'd expect they'll still go for the win. Building panel and confidence as they go is the plan from here on in. The only game he might not want to go all out for is kerry so I'd be thinking 2 home wins and a league final...

A Mayo/Ross league final is a distinct possibility...3 games(most likely)in a short space of time in that scenario, fair to say we would be totally sick of the sight of each another...the shadow boxing would be off the charts for at least one of those games.
All hypethitical of course!

N

No doubt says:

Go for the win v armagh and after kerry game make 15 changes v roscommon and not show hand and in doing so if mayo win it's extra bragging rights with 2nd string team and if we lose sure it was only our 2nd team who will also have gained valuable experience... win win situation.

2 hops, I'd be going for a Donegal Mayo final myself. McGuiness hasn't stopped his team midstream this time. I can't see anyone beating them before the final now, and it appears Andy hasn't any intention of holding back either. Serious pressure on Armagh and Dublin now to step it up with Galway also being a bit shaky too.
Kerry will see it out and do whatever is necessary. Armagh's tactics against Donegal were not inspiring, so I'm going for a home win.

Time to allow Beirne and Kobe back to the u20 panel and let them focus on trying to build on last years success and bring an all Ireland at that grade to the county. it would be a great achiement and they can have a real cut at it this year with the talent they have. I am sure Keith Higgins will be asking Andy for this.... By doing that it will also take the focus (and hysteria) away from those young lads for a while. Plenty of lads waiting to get a run out on Sunday, that's what the league is for.....give Towey a first start for example?

T

tirawleybaron says:

Armagh will be pushing for a win. Mayo wont.
It is a fairly predictable result.

It would be some performance if Mayo could beat Armagh with a half a team.

@mayo man for life, beirne and kobe are probably the most talented forwards we have. Beirne has scored in every game. Not a chance he should go to u-20s. Towey has been on the panel for 3-4 years and has never made a breakthrough. Compare that to beirne or even Kobe with 10 mins. I’m not knocking towey either he should be respected as he is clearly a talented footballer and anyone who dedicates time to Mayo should be respected.

Hi all,I don’t make comments on here all that often but read the blog all the time and love the discussions re all things around mayo on here,a few things that I feel should happen over the next few weeks …
•Start Kobe, this may be a controversial one but the reasoning is this…he’s going to have tough days in the green and red whether that be one year or more, anyone thinking that Sunday is the way it’s going to be for him all the time won’t like it when he gets stifled, for me it’s better for him to get exposure the early way and figure out what it’s about himself..exceptional talent and love the way he carries himself
•Anyone that’s worried about Jack coyne needs to take a deep breath and get off social media for a while, the fella is just back in the door of mayo gaa and was given the task of trying to quieten one of the most productive forwards in Gaelic football,Jack is a fantastic defender and will most certainly come good as he has been given the honour of captaining mayo football.
•We are now bearing the fruits of what has been a project thats taken years to develop in the mayo academy,a fresh pipeline of attacking talent that’s eager to shoot and score and our traditional athletic footballers are going to help us be competitive in years to come, don’t get carried away but don’t be under the illusion as to we can’t get excited..
•As I am writing this the schools all Ireland semi finals have been confirmed, all you need to do is look at participating schools from there to see the work that’s being done…

I'd give 25-30 mins to Kobe on Sunday again off the bench and then let him loose down in Kerry. Himself and Darragh Beirne will be with the U20's as well.

Any update on injured players/players to come back such as Matthew Ruane, Darren McHale, Cillian O'Connor, Eoghan Mcgloughlin (is he still on panel?), Dylan Thornton, Cathal Keaveney, Eoin McGreal(will prob go to u20's)

Tommy Conroy rested before championship according to Andy. Tom Lydon with the U20's who has great potential.

Sigerson lads Cian McHale, Conal Dawson, Hugh O'Loughlin, Frank Irwin, Sean Morahan to come back

More game time needed for Seamus Howard, James Carr,Paul Towey,John McMonagle, Fenton Kelly, Diarmuid Duffy

Jack Livingstone needs games time too

Adam Barrett and Nathan Moran still on panel according to Mike Finnerty on the pod. Is Kuba Callaghan, Darragh Joyce, Finbar Mcgloughlin Still there? I know someone said a few weeks ago that Niall Hurley was Released. Will definitely be back again at some point. Squad is strong, Great talent in Mayo. Be hard to narrow down the squad to 36-40 players.

2 hops says:

February 24, 2026 at 9:37 pm

I agree we have some serious depth in our squad,;pts of players who can do a job on any given day, lots with little or nothing between them. Only question is,are our players at the standard required to have a right rattle at championship 2026. I think we will do fine in the remaining league games to survive in top flight at least, anything further there is a bonus,so that competition is pretty much squared away now.

So it's over to Andy , Colm et al to get the blend between youth and experience, the sticky markers at the back, the half back line is probably sorted,if these 3 lads can stay fit and healthy, get Rob and his centrefield men in sync and then a combination of composure and hard work up front, timing and quality of substitutes among a million other little details.
I think all this and a decent dollop of good luck and who knows...one thing for sure, I'm really looking forward to the ride.

Just had a quick scribble down of those in the hot seats at the mo and potential replacements. Appreciate they are not direct replacements and players could find themselves in different positions. However it's crazy the numbers involved so far taking League and end of FBD into account.

Hennelly Livingstone
Coyne McGreal
McHugh Brickenden
Hession Morahan
Callinan Kelly
Loftus Plunkett
Durkan McMonagle
McBrien Coen
Touhy Thornton
Carney D O'Connor
O'Donoghue D McHale
Flynn Dawson
Boland Conroy
OShea Carr
Beirne C McHale

These could also be swapped in handy enough especially Kobe after last weekends performance.
McDonald, Duffy, Ruane, C O'Connor, Towey, Howard, Moran

And not even mentioning the following

Barrett, Golden, Irwin, Keaveney, Callahan, Lydon, Hurley, Joyce

Definitely think Andy give a few of those in the replacement column a run out over the next 3 League games

Even at this point picking a 26 for the Championship will be some craic!

Things going well so far, and without getting carried away, many positives. One big positive for me is our total embrace of the opportunities offered under the new rules, especially the two pointers. It was said, by a fair few on this blog that we did'nt heve players with the ability to kick two pointers-they were wrong, very wrong. Players from last year with the ability include Fergal, Ryan, Jordan, Jack, Stephen Mattie, Conor and Paddy. We can now add Darragh, Cillian, Comal, Cian and I am probably missing some. The problem was it was'nt in our game plan and players wer'nt actively encouraged to go for them. It is now completely different, there is a clear plan to set up opportunities and players are obviously encouraged and given the freedom to go for them.

Mayo have done great ground work with the youth, and to be involved in four senior schools AI semi-finals must be a record.

Just looking at the two sets of teams listed by KPMG, I can't see a weak altenative. This is beginning to resemble Dublin's embarrassment of riches in their pomp. And all in Connaught wish Mayo the very best. It's been too long, the seventy five year wait.

Kobe was sensational for that goal. The boy moves gracefully forward like a gazelle and when most players would have settled for a point, he backs himself with a beautifully placed low ball to the corner of the net. Then the 2-pointer he scored from a congested midfield area was coolness personified.

We're up against Donegal next, but are having yo-yo performances within games itself. Although, McGuinness could do with being brought down a peg or two. We live in hope..

M

Mind the House says:

A balancing act at the weekend between momentum and resting players and getting minutes into others.

I'd have Cian Mchale in for Darragh on Sunday.
Livingstone, Morahan, Dawson and Carr would also be in from the start.

They've missed an awful lot of football but you'd love to see 1,2 or even all 3 of Carr, Conroy and Cillian hit their straps just at the right time. Imagine them 3 added to the current group.

That word hype has reared its head again and you'd think after all these years the media would learn how to spell it correctly. Its H O P E (Hope) not H Y P E (Hype)
After 70 odd years If we have no hope then we have nothing at all.

Dan says:

GlasagusDearg - that's definitely left me banging my head against the wall; our outright refusal to embrace the new rules last year. Such a wasted opportunity.
We were never winning the All-Ireland in all reality, but the new rules gave an opportunity to make some real progress. Dedicating time to kicking 2 pointers alone would have been hugely beneficial, particularly as we can now see that we do actually have players capable of kicking them.
But instead of that, we wasted a year, sticking to 'old rules' football. But anyway, time to move on.
It's great to see how we're playing this year. Attacking, front-foot football, fully adopting the 2 point score.

As for Kobe, some people are talking about trying to convince him to stay. It's not going to happen I'm afraid.
He's signed a contract with St Kilda. Our only hope is that we have him for the summer.
We've all known about his move to AFL for a while now, there have been rumours for the past couple of years even.
So don't stress about it, just enjoy watching this incredible talent while you can.
I'm sure the official attendance at Clones on Sunday will rise to about 100,000 over the coming years, everyone will say they were there to witness his amazing debut.

P

Pebblesmeller says:

February 25, 2026 at 2:16 pm

I'd go again with Coyne and McHugh in the full back line as both are returning from injury and need the minutes in the legs. Hession has been almost an ever-present so I'd rest him and go with Morahan in the corner.
I'd rest Callinan, because between club and county he has a lot of minutes on the clock so far, and I'd bring in Kelly to go alongside Loftus and Durcan in the half back line.
Stick with the same midfield pairing.
Howard for Carney in the half forward line. Sticking with ROD and Flynn but DoC to come in at half time.
Boland and Beirne have the "hot boots" at the minute so I'd go with them again but pull AOS for Carr.

M

Moy2Pointer says:

February 25, 2026 at 2:41 pm

I’m along the same lines as you, Pebblesmeller, on the players I’d rest. I’d probably bring in McMonagle for Hession, especially since he was involved in the warm-up with the team in Clones. I’d also have Morahan in for Callinan, agree with Howard coming in for Carney, and I’d swap Dawson for Jordan. I’d also like to see Cian McHale get a run instead of Beirne.

Only thing about Hession is he might be needed to track Oisin Conaty, I'm not sure if many of the other backs would have the endurance & pace for him and ya want Sam driving forward.

I’d also like to see more of Diarmuid Duffy at some point over the next three games. He’s been around the panel for three seasons now without really getting a proper run of matches, but he’s clearly highly rated, I even remember a few players name-checking him as one to watch. Finbarr McLoughlin is another I’d be keen to see get an opportunity.

Roco88 says:

February 25, 2026 at 8:23 pm

Diarmuid Duffy is a brilliant athlete and good ball carrier. As a minor he operated in the 12 position but operating as a mobile 3rd midfielder. At that point reminder me a little of Diarmuid OConnor. Without knowing the lad I feel he’s suffered a little since minor in terms of his rate of development and possibly with injuries impacting that

Overall I think he’s stronger in the half back line than half forward though he can play that role too. I’ve never found his accuracy in front of goal to be amazing bar that evening in Tuam back in 2022 as a minor when he fired a bullet into the top corner and 2 points to boot

T

TsuDhoNim says:

February 25, 2026 at 8:41 pm

@catcol: Scoring wouldn't be Diarmuid's strong point.

A super hard working wing or half-forward for his minor days (think I've memories of him being tried around the middle in '21 as an u16 but no shock we got a bit overpowered at the time & went a different direction with big lads like Feeney, Keane & Armstrong in '22), he floated between wing, half forward, midfield and wing-back for the 20s.

Made a move back to 6 for Ballinrobe and had a fantastic year there in '23 (straight out of minor) and has tended to float around that 5 to 12 for them since. Making the hard runs from the back he'd get on the end of the odd score (probably as many goals as points since moving back the field) but nothing that would light up a stat sheet.

Reasonable pace, certainly not a concern for him but not electric like a McGreal or a McDonald so you wouldn't suggest it's a key strength. His athleticism the one that stands out, he'd run all day and never look like tiring or dropping that pace kinda thing. A serious work-ethic and the type to be buzzing around for breaking ball.

https://www.mft.ie/search-results/?page_num=1&player_id=2212&player=Diarmuid Duffy

The blog here perfect for all his County stats, where the club ones wouldn't be too different since his move that bit deeper (in the club group stages this year he kicked 1 against Mitchels B and a goal against Lahardane, so 1-1 across his 4 games). Able to kick a score, but wouldn't be a prolific scorer so much as the hard grafter & dynamic runner/ball carrier that feeds a DB, McHale or Conroy inside kinda thing (or a Hurley/Clarke back in the minor days).

@Plunkett: Yeah, one of the FBD games. Was a game where JMacM was playing in the slightly earlier game that day so he wasn't just a square peg in a round hole either where they had options with more experience in that position available. They obviously saw him potentially doing a job tagging someone tightly.

Can't say I thought the results of that experiment were fantastic. He always looked far more a 7 (or a deeper 12) to me than a 3. That said, if Andy & Colm saw something for the match-up it's great to see them trying a few things like that. Omlettes, cracked eggs and all that lark.

I though pre-christmas that Hugh o Loughlin would be feature more based on his league display for UL, but injury hampered his Sigerson campaign, Seamus Howard seems to be pushing ahead, I dont think we have seen Frank Irwin take the field for Mayo this season so as other people is pointing out i not sure they will be getting a run and others have step up. I expect to seen more of McHale, Dawson and Morahan from the UL Sigerson Group.

I wouldn't let kobe anywhere near the kerry or roscommon games. Given them a chance to figure him out. No way.

Thanks TSU for that comprehensive update on Diarmuid Duffy. One thing I would add: I seem to recall that he came on for Connacht in that new rules trial game in Croker in Oct 24, where he caught my eye once or twice.

Craggy boglands – What are we holding him back for ? He’s heading off when the season ends, so we may as well try to make the most of him while he’s here, available for selection, and not tied down with other commitments (U20s, Leaving Cert, AFL). The reality is he won’t see as much game time as we think. The U20s start in mid-March (the Wednesday before the Roscommon game) and the Leaving Cert begins in June, so he’ll probably miss Connacht and the first two rounds of the qualifiers. If we were to lose those opening 2 qualifier games, we could even be out before he’s back available.

If he plays this weekend, and assuming he won’t be available again until round three of the qualifiers or even a quarter-final (given the U20 campaign and the Leaving Cert), it could well be the last opportunity we get to see him line out for the seniors in a home game (the U20s will have a few home fixtures of their own).

Is it still the case that you can't play u20 and Senior at the same time.
I don't remember Clifford playing u20 for Kerry.

@Jr: A few different rule changes on that since Cliff's days. The current rule (since '24) is you can't play both u20 and Senior County Championship (no rule for league) in a 60 hour lockout window.

https://www.gaa.ie/article/u20-and-senior-inter-county-eligibility-motion-passed

From the various interviews Andy and Keith have done it sounds like they've decided to draw a clear line between the two panels (with all our u20 eligible lads focusing on that grade) and not look to have lads double dipping even where it is technically feasible.

Though you could certainly see an exception being made (or forced) for someone like DB if injury robbed us of C McHale/D McHale/Aido for left footed options inside type of thing. Hopefully that won't be tested.

Anyone good enough for the seniors stay with the seniors IMO. Plenty young lads raring to go on the u20 panel so let them at it.

Mayo have to field best team and go flat out for win against Armagh. Reason to see where we are at present. Mayo were destroyed by Donegal, next up Mayo destroyed a poor Monaghan team. Donegal then beat a below strenght Arnagh , a game Armagh could have won had they converted their chances near end of game, however Donegal always looked in control of game. Mayo need to beat Armagh especially at home to show if we near the top or still the old Mayo, brillant today and terrible tomorrow.

At the risk of repeating myself.....there's no reason Mayo can't experiment and still put out a strong team.
Would like to see Morohan Dawson and Cian McHale.
Keep the wunderkind for the last 15 mins.
The whole county seems to be going on Sunday to see him.
Hopefully some of Carr Conroy or Cillian can feature

We should have a very strong u20 panel this year. It is important to keep our over 20s on board by giving them opportunities. How we do in the championship is as much about tactics and use of bench as it is about players imo.

Keeping lads that are fit for senior at U20 level is just holding them back and reducing opportunities for more under age development.
If your on a senior intercounty panel at 25/26 and you havent enough credit in the bank to keep a 19yr old lad off the team - then there is no point holding back the younger fella for a man that isnt good enough.
If Mayo are serious about winning All irelands, then "let the boys play". If the 25/26 year old hasnt nailed down a place yet - he probably never will - not on an all ireland contending team anyway.

I honestly think sending the 20s lads back is a tougher decision with Darragh than Kobe. Darragh has started, and done well in, every game. Kobe has given us about 20 minutes. Darragh has invested a lot more into this league campaign and I think it is therefore tougher to tell him he won't be involved to see it out.

No reason for any of the 20s lads to miss Armagh, when there isn't a 20s game for 2 and half weeks.
I'd probably bring Darragh to Tralee. We'll know after that if we will have a league final or not, and if we do I'd keep him with the seniors until that's over. Kobe I think I would let back to the 20s after Armagh, but I might bring him to croker; the 20s don't start playing week on week until after the league final.

I'm not really sure what to do with the London game. It's bang in the middle of two 20s game.
Roscommon game would be a few days before a 20s Connacht final. That might depend on if the 20s have to play a semi final.

No point in sending Kobe back to u20s - for what purpose? He won't be here next year, there's no point trying to slowly integrate him.
It's fairly obvious he's good enough already, so keep him at senior and make the most of his talent while we can.
Beirne could be sent back to u20s, but again, why? He's settled into senior very well, he's a proper scoring forward - sometimes doesn't seem to do an awful lot, but always ends up with a few scores and has a great knack of scoring goals.
He's looked gassed a couple of times I thought, but not physically bullied or outclassed, he's well able - especially if we could swap himself and Cian McHale in and out for each other.

Madness , we get few natural forwards and now were deeming them surplus to requirments, due to their age .
Feck the U 20s , what's it about but blooding lads for senior, lads who are good enough quality wise, should play senior regardless of age .
Kobe, Beirne, whoever are replaceable at u20 and next guy steps up , but not replaceable at senior level, unless we go with good old second best attitude and give the poor older lads a game

Cian McHale into the starting team in place of Darragh Beirne, with Diarmuid O’Connor and James Carr back into the subs after missing last week.
