Well that's the tonic...I was just about to take down the gin...till we got a bit sloppy there.
No second half snooze please.
I'm sure we'll be fine.

Our fullback line struggling again this evening. Also struggling on breaks at midfield.
Our forwards have the winning of the game if we can get enough ball in to them

We looked very good throughout the pitch until that sloppy goal, hopefully we can back to it for the 2nd half.

Struggling to really make anything happen at the moment.

Is Ben Thornton injured? He is best midfielder on the panel but isn’t even on the subs.

Some shocking passing

It Means Nothing to Me says:

April 29, 2026 at 8:23 pm

We’ve a serious problem managing leads, at all levels of football. If you go six or seven points up, the game should be over, simple as. Although the present of a second goal we gave them contributed to that a lot.

The other thing I’ve noticed over the two games against Roscommon: has the shoulder been outlawed? Young players in particular almost never seem to throw one any more.

T

Two Pointer says:

April 29, 2026 at 8:26 pm

We looked out on our feet at the end there. It’s a bad sign when the only option we had was to handpass to someone 3m away while going backwards.
Some horrible turnovers.
Didnt think the ref was too kind to us either last few mins but that’s typical when you are only a point up

Mayoforever says:

Regardless of the result - credit to both teams for a fantastic display - a great advertisement for the modern game

Jeez but we made a dog’s dinner of that goal chance! Hope it doesn’t come back to bite us.

I fear this is gonna be Rossiss day again. But what a talent Kobe is. Tom Lydon is very promising also and Beirne of course .

Dylan Flynn is doing some amount of donkey work. He’s tackling everything.

H

Hopeful says:

April 29, 2026 at 8:46 pm

Unreal how easy it is to take the ball from our players. If other counties are wondering how to lose a game in fifty different ways, just give Mayo at any level and call and hey presto we will find a way!Now we haven't quite lost this one just yet,but.......!

U

Unstoppable says:

April 29, 2026 at 8:54 pm

Why are we giving our managerial jobs to people with no managerial experience. Being an ex player should not be relevant.

D

Dave Johnston says:

Feck sake. Mayo have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory once again. Great game of football.

M

MoDíreach says:

Better team. Looked stronger, fitter, faster and more direct. We were farting about and sadly didn't deserve it. Congrats Roscommon, again. Goals win matches.

M

And we thought the goalkeeping was bad on Sunday...

Brave showing in ways but disorganised chaos, skills deficit and physically inferior means another sorry day

C

You cant win games when you conceed 5 goals.

A

Very entertaining game and credit to both teams, we lost it in normal time trying to run the clock with 3 minutes left, should have pushed on for winning score

W

Whitey says:

Mayo on the attack-game there for the taking and the Mayo forward in possession shoves him man twice-free out-bang Roscommon goal. I seriously can’t take it any more (at all
Levels)

I

It Means Nothing to Me says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:03 pm

@Hopeful: I’m afraid that you were quite prescient with that comment.

We have a lot of attributes as a footballing county, heart, fitness, exciting players etc. But tactical acumen and game smarts is something we are sorely lacking, at all levels of the game.

Why can’t any of our representative sides defend? Any county side we have seems to be wide open all of the time.

And giving plum jobs to ex players who haven’t much pedigree in coaching is not working out for us, evidently.

It was a great exhibition of football and good luck to Roscommon, but it’s one, yet again, that we should never have lost.

W

Way Out West. says:

Goals, once again the downfall of Mayo teams. Disaster of a result for Mayo football. We just don't know how to close out games.

M

My Ball says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:06 pm

Think our Bucks left it all on the field. They can’t be faulted for effort
Fair play to Roscommon on their win but the Rossies , young and old are the most bitter bunch of supporters that you will ever meet ..
No class

Y

yew_tree says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:08 pm

Roscommon got stronger as the game went on. Both teams made town of mistakes but that’s natural at this age level. Roscommon looked bigger, fitter and stronger which is a worry. Our minors also look physically well off it.

There is no structure to Mayo football. The chickens are coming home to roost. It’s back to an old boys management club. Liam Horans report years ago was binned. Something seriously wrong with Mayo football.

L

Left Boot. says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:09 pm

Good game to watch, Roscommon were more advanced than Mayo, conceding 5 goals gives a Mayo team no chance at all, passing the ball into Roscommon hands is deplorable, also 9 turnovers & they scored each time, They will learn from this evenings game, Mayo played well in patches but overall not great.

U

Unstoppable says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:10 pm

Feel awful for those young lads. A group good enough to win an All Ireland but brought pack into the pack by a management team who have no experience. They learned absolutely nothing from the first game against Roscommon and send those lads out with one hand tied behind their backs.

Our county board continues to show no respect to the u20 grade. I've had enough of the same old story. We also nearly lost last year's Connacht final because another inexperienced management team watched as we got cleaned in midfield and conceded a load of goals. Deja Vu anyone.

J

JP says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:10 pm

Attacking defender managers with his attackimg defender style team not working plays to give it early to our good forwards.
If some of our lads are doing weights I don't see it.
Absolute mess.

A

Achill75 says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:12 pm

I said it before but former County Footballers with little managerial experience and no club experience do not guarantee Connacht or All Ireland titles.

G

Glorydays says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:13 pm

Well done to Roscommon they are obviously putting in the work at underage level. Feel sorry for Kobe leaving for Oz without any sort of medal

D

DJT says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:13 pm

What sort of coaching is going on in underage groups when they do the same things the seniors do… afraid to go for goal. Mayo turn over the ball Kobe lays it off it works over to Lydon it’s a 3 on 1 and he fist over bar with an open goal. Then Roscommon have the balls to go down and put the ball in net. Why mayo lost that game cause no balls to try stuff same old stuff unfortunately. Hopefully Higgins Mcloughlin and drake can see what in front of them.

T

to win just once says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:14 pm

Hardly the night to be giving out about managers , players etc. I think they all deserve immense credit. It was an absolutely outstanding game of football and all players involved left everything on the field. Having said that it is desperately disappointing. We led by 8, conceded some absolutely brutal goals and made desperate errors at both ends of the field in the last minutes of extra time. Sad fact is that we have been knocked out of Connacht in Senior, U 20 and U 17 before May Day

T

T2S says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:15 pm

Can't understand why we can't produce backs and midfielders anymore

W

Waiting For Sam says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:17 pm

Wasn't keen on the appointment of either the u20 or senior manager. I hoped I'd be proven wrong. I wasn't. Two tactically inept men, who were excellent players. But excellent players don't alway make good managers. Good coaches? Maybe.
I presume the reviews will rubber stamp a great season.

S

Southmayo Exile says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:19 pm

Yet another hyped up underage Mayo team fails to deliver when the chips are down.
The sooner people involved in Mayo football realise we have players who aren't near as good as some people think they are and the sooner we realise Mayo football is in crisis- the better.
We've been in crisis at all levels now for a number of years - and nothing is been done about it

H

Hopeful says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:20 pm

It's hard to disagree with any of the comments. Very disappointing again from a Mayo perspective. But when you keep giving the ball back to the opposition, giving them goals and missing sitters ourselves there is only ever going to be one outcome. Mayo football not in a great place at the moment.

J

JP says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:26 pm

It's not very complex. The Horan era players are absolutely full of it with this attaching defender, running off the shoulder, high octane Mayo. Its utterly out of date with the new rules.
No attaching plays to get it to our shooters.
Finally a total belief in stamina running instead of physical power and pace.
The kickpasing wingbacks from minor were all overlooked for this squad.

A

Ahh not again says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:28 pm

Glorydays, he will have an all ireland medal if he stays for summer

R

Revellino says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:31 pm

Great game and credit to both teams. The Rossies finished stronger and deserved their win overall. Like the senior game they were stronger towards the end. They seemed to have a couple of giants in the pitch.

G

Glorydays says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:32 pm

@ahh not again an all Ireland medal in Basketball maybe as he is a gifted basketballer. If we were playing Carlow in an All Ireland final up by 10 points at half time and playing with the wind in the second half we'd find a way to lose

S

Sarsfielder says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:32 pm

Very similar to last Sunday sadly. Why are Roscommon fitter, more skilled, stronger, faster and hungrier for victory than we are? And we will be without Kobe next year. At u17 level we are the fourth best team in a province of five. A root and branch examination is required or we will never win anything.

M

Maumtrasna View says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:36 pm

As Glorydays says above Roscommon must be putting different work in at underage to us and it's paying off.

R

Roco88 says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:36 pm

Another disappointing defeat at u20 level. I thought the lads tried so hard but seemed to be battling against a stronger and taller team

Rio Mortimer carried the fight tonight bringing physicality too.

Colm Lynch had a really strong performance, lovely kick passer and has mastered the point kick off his left foot. I’d have high hopes for him

Dylan Flynn left everything out on the field and has a tidy skillset with both feet and hands.

Tom Lydon was very clinical and contributed handsomely from play tonight. Does seem to be constantly carrying a knock. The big regret will be putting that extra time chance over the bar

Darragh Beirne did some nice things but also had frustrating moments too particularly in the second half. The more that went wrong, the more he tried to correct it

Kobe was immense again.

Whatever it is though overall we seem to be clueless around midfield and on breaks.

1-2-1 defending seems non existent. It was the same last season at u20 defence with teams knifing through at ease. We couldn’t have dealt with Kilcline any worse

With Kobe headed for Aussie I think there goes our hopes of winning another Connacht u20 for a number of years.

N

Nephin says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:38 pm

Our keepers must love the Rossies. They keep giving them gifts. Our lad today will have nightmares.

F

Food4thought says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:42 pm

I have to say that the spirit of these young players was superb- on both teams. It was indeed an epic game and Roscommon fully deserved their win though Mayo showed great character.

As always at underage there were lots of errors but we were unquestionably out muscled / out run by a well drilled Roscommon team. Without Kobe we would’ve been destroyed.

Roscommon seem to be getting their house very much in order à la Tyrone but Mayo are being left further behind. There simply has to be a better system in place for development of young players.I don’t have the answers but we could copy Tyrone or Roscommon system to start.

I think we should be gracious that these kids did themselves and us proud but were beaten by a better team (who I think might win the All Ireland.

We should emphasize the positives and there were plenty of players there who caught the eye as potential future seniors.

There’s no ducking it now. We need to focus on a county wide systematic approach that leaves no talent behind.

O

Ontheditch says:

April 29, 2026 at 9:59 pm

It was an epic match , they are development squads. What future county seniors did we see. Heneghan and Carthy for rossies. Physical powerhouses. For Mayo a lot of good performances, no great performances imo.Excluding Kobe, overall, it was a progressive year at u20, from the Sligo scare to tonights game

V

Vaaldam says:

April 29, 2026 at 10:08 pm

Centre field very poor. If only we could have won a bit more ball around the middle I think we would have won easily. We were poor at minding the ball and turned it over easily when we were touched by the opposition. Other than Kobe no player is good enough for seniors.
I can't see Roscommon going too far.either.

M

MM Marooned in the Pale says:

April 29, 2026 at 11:05 pm

Kobe and Tom Lydon certainly did not deserve to be on the losing side. Their goals were sublime. The team weaknesses seem very similar to what we were seeing at senior level:
1. Difficulty winning possession around the middle
2. Physically weaker than the opposition.

A

Ahh not again says:

April 29, 2026 at 11:27 pm

Yep Glorydays, probably right

S

Solo and go says:

April 30, 2026 at 7:10 am

There were few unbelievably talented Mayo players in that squad and it should easily have been enough to win a Connaught final
Like Sunday, a man in charge based on his name but with no idea how to manage a game has led to defeat against a county that we should be beating.
There was absolutely no tactical plan happening last night . Had the game won on more than one occasion and threw it away.
In the final 20 minutes when we needed some calm leadership he puts Kobe full forward
Unbelievable.
For those who questioned why Kobe wouldn’t stay in Mayo, have a look at this week.

N

Nephin says:

April 30, 2026 at 11:47 am

Solo and go. Several people on Discord last night were saying Kobe was gassed and not surprised after a hard game on Sunday. I thought at the time he was just giving him a bit of a rest. Also one long ball was played into him but slightly over hit. He almost got his hands on it and if he did, he was 1on 1 with the defender and I’d imagine a certain goal.

N

No doubt says:

April 30, 2026 at 12:49 pm

I know it wouldn't have made any difference to the outcome but does anyone else take any notice of meaney taking kickouts 3ft behind the line and hennelly does similar where roscommon goalie was at least 1ft past the line. I'd love to know what that's all about i know if it was me I'd be trying to gain every inch possible.. Just one of my pet hates over the years.

C

CDR says:

April 30, 2026 at 1:34 pm

@no doubt yes I have noticed Hennelly has done this for as long as I can remember where he will place the ball a foot or two outside the 45. The last min free down in Limerick against Kerry in 14 he must have gone back about a metre from where it was awarded where as Kerry were constantly trying to steal yards and rightly so. Up to the ref/ linesman to spot it.

J

Jr says:

April 30, 2026 at 1:38 pm

Say what one likes about the defeat but unlike my the Seniors they brought great energy and effort to the game.
Senior should look and learn.

S

Solo and Go says:

April 30, 2026 at 1:57 pm

@Nephin
You are probably right on why Kobe was full forward.

His calming presence and leadership were sorely missed around that half forward line

I hope he goes forward to have a successful club championship with Crossmolina because he deserves to leave the county with some success

T

Two Pointer says:

April 30, 2026 at 2:19 pm

Kobe won’t be playing club championship Solo and go.
He will be in Australia within 2 weeks of mayo being knocked out of the all Ireland championship, or his leaving cert being completed. Whichever happens later.

N

No doubt says:

April 30, 2026 at 7:23 pm

@CDR.im glad it wasn't just imagination .hard to understand. Is it another case of being too nice where I'd prefer to see the odd blegard on the field.
