Christ Mayo are getting some amount of soft frees so far, its like a non contact sport.

Just crossing my fingers he doesn't try to make it up to ye in the 2nd.

Lovely movement from the minors both on an off the ball. Just need to take their chances in the second half and all will hopefully be good! Fingers crossed...

Ah, I dont mean it to sound bitter but jaysus lads are hardly touched and its a free but that isnt Mayos fault.

Mayo well on top now, they did better when down to 14. Goals win games and that will always be the case. Are Galway out of the championship now or how does it work this year.

Great performance, goals won it, Neary was lethal anytime he got near the goal.
Only concern would be percentage of kickouts lost to Galway. Very free flowing football

I was massively impressed with that game but most especially, our performance when we went down to 14. They turned into absolute animals after that.
Yes, the forward play was good but feck me, their determination not to concede a goal, in spite of the healthy lead was brilliant.
We might not be winning Sunday but the future is bright!

Chesneychet. Yes Galway gone. Roscommon and Mayo in the final and both will progress. Mayo should really have been home and hosed at halftime but some woeful shooting. The black card seemed to focus the Mayo players' minds. Deserving winners overall but the Rossies are strong this year.

Another nice team in the pipeline.

Thought they really dug in the final quarter there. Brilliant determination. Ref very harsh at times against both teams….as someone said it’s becoming almost non contact. No13 knows where the net is…Carey I think.

Thanks, its quite a confusing formula. Mayo I thought did very well in midfield tonight, large gaps in centre of Galway defence exploited well in second half. Its good to see young players going for the goals instead of the handy point. Mayo played some quick ball into forwards in last 10 minutes and it paid dividends. I dont know how good Roscommon are but the Mayo team must have a good chance in the final.
Nephin says:
May 2, 2025 at 9:04 pm
Well done lads. Came really strong in the second half and I loved the way they chased everything down right to the finish. Especially in front of our goal in the last minutes. Defending like it was the winning or losing of the game. You won’t see many senior teams defending so bravely even if only leading by two. Got a bit nasty afterwards.

Good win tonight and a pretty good performance with a decent score. Roscommon are a good side and will be a challenge in the final. Tier 2 (B Competition) for Galway. They didnt fancy the U 20 B competition and Leitrim beat them but I think they only had 18/ 19 on panel for that game. Anyway it is a good result for Mayo on top of the U 20 win earlier in the week. Now all we want is a similar result on Sunday.

Minor Captain is a cousin of mine (although we’ve never met lol)...fair play to them. Definitely not the most gifted Mayo minor panel but some battlers and battlers are very important to bring through. Tigerish spirit is invaluable. Every team needs a few of them. Lads who never give up. We had lots of them at senior level last decade. John Maher for Galway is another. Bullish.
Roscommon favourites for minor but I’m delighted now our boys have another two competitive games minimum. Great for their development and hopefully over the last four years of minors we can form a really strong senior team toward the end of this decade. Mayo will always come back and someday we’ll get over the line again. We produce the players. We just need a manager with the innovation and charisma to lead us there.
@Sean Burke, someday we’ll be dancing around the Mall in Cbar with Big Bertha. She’s in season 29 now.

I also hope, truly, that in a couple of years we have no one over with the AFL. That Oisin returns and no one else leaves. There’s a fantastic once in a lifetime opportunity for these Mayo boys from 17-26 to do something really special.

Why would you turn down an opportunity to play professionally mayonaze and get paid and live in a country where it's not pissing rain everyday for a while?
Clare says:
May 3, 2025 at 12:06 am
@Larry David totally get why the young ones go to Australia it's really frustrating For us but I get it.
Do think we will be seeing Oisin Mullin back soon though.
Larry David says:
May 3, 2025 at 8:37 am
Yes Clare, I think anyone in that age bracket should give it a go , why regert it later, sure can always come back . I heard Oisin will be there another year anyway, I dont know if we'll see him in 2026, could do with him badly..like our half back line for Sunday wouldnt instill an awful lot of confidence
yew_tree says:
May 3, 2025 at 10:54 am
Very hard to judge how many at underage will eventually progress and make an impact. My guess is less than half. Life, college, work, moving abroad etc all gets in the way. People need to realise that and not put pressure or build lads up.
TsuDhoNim says:
May 3, 2025 at 12:13 pm
@yew_tree: Looking back on various underage teams I'd imagine none of us would have got anywhere close on predictions of how many would progress. It's always a huge step, with plenty of slips or others barging to the front of the queue as the years pass.
'24 - 2 senior
’23 - 6 senior, 5 still in panel
’22 - 3 senior
’21 - 3 senior
’20 - 7 senior, 4 still in panel
’19 – 3 senior, 2 still in panel
’18 – 4 senior, 2 still in panel
I wouldn't be shocked if the current 'team' hit decent numbers on progression, but even that will look staggered given ~6 (could be as high as 8) of our starters are still underage next year (other caveat in that not all that progressed were starters at underage). With the numbers likely further suppressed with other upcoming young talent across u19/u18/u17 (or u20 outside the squad) that'll be fighting tooth and nail for those spots.
Sean Burke says:

Yes remember we had a ff line at minors in 13 that looked dynamic , tragically Darragh docherty is no longer with us RIP , Tommy goals and Liam irwin never made it to senior . 2-9 between them in the all Ireland final , Cian Hanley on that side also (injured for final I think if memory serves me right )
