LGFA and Minor matches the focus this weekend

LGFA and Minor matches the focus this weekend

The lads have the weekend off (no, they don’t really, but they’re not in Championship action until next weekend) and so this coming weekend the focus is on LGFA and Minor Championship matches that are taking place.

The women take the field first, with the field in question being Austin Stack Park in Tralee. It’s there on Saturday afternoon that they face defending All-Ireland champions Kerry in the LGFA All-Ireland SFC Group Stage first round.

This Group 2 match throws in at 2pm that afternoon. It’s being streamed live by Spórt TG4 on their YouTube channel (so I’ll embed it here on the blog for ease of viewing) and the ticket link for the game is here.

Then on Sunday the county’s Minor footballers take on the newly-crowned Leinster champions Offaly in the All-Ireland MFC quarter-final. This game is fixed for Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon, with a 3pm throw-in.

This game is also being streamed live by Spórt TG4 on YouTube – truly, where would we be without them? – and I’ll embed the feed for it here on the blog as well. If you’re planning on going, the ticket link for the game is here.

There are also several club matches on this weekend. Full details on those games are here.

The best of luck to the two Mayo teams in action this weekend.

Best of luck to both, big challenge for the ladies.
Really looking forward to seeing the young lads again. Hopefully our midfielders,or at least one of them are back for this one.
A few right good prospects on this team too.

Anyone know if Tony Carey picked up an injury...not starting for our minors, and probably our standout player to date.

Here's hopeing we won't be wearing that horrific grey, pyjamas-like jersey/short combo the next day.

Im sorry Willie Joe, even if it does help with colour blindness, its an abomination of a thing and im sure our players are not too enamoured with it either.

Im not for one minute, making light of colour blindness and that problems it creates .

Don't know about the injury but Tony Carey only become a starter for how he performed in the dead rubber and last group game v Galway. In the semi final he scored 1-3 and final 1-4 so that type of scoring won't be easy to replace v Offaly

Young Carey will be good to go for the semifinal if Mayo can get over Offaly. He has been a breath of fresh air in the forward line over the past 3 games. Cian May is another big loss for the quarter final. The Leinster minors hasn't been strong for a number of years, so you'd expect Mayo and Roscommon to be in with a good chance of making the semifinals.

Our minors are fairly savaged by injuries to key players. It’ll be a tough ask to beat Offaly tomorrow. Also, not sure about a Westmeath referee??

What we want to see (as we should from all Mayo teams) is a certain level of tenacity and fight. That’s the bedrock of any successful team so even on a day where they don’t fire (Galway in the Connacht senior final spring to mind) they can still pull a victory out of the fire. So I hope our boys are really up for it tomorrow and leave the pitch having given every ounce of effort. If they do, then even with injuries, there’s no reason whatsoever why they cannot win and advance to deeper in the championship. It’s where all Mayo teams ought to be.

Good luck to both Mayo teams. There's one thing you can be sure of Mayonaze, there will be no favouritism shown to Offaly by a Westmeath referee. No love lost between them two counties!

I know, but sometimes a ref feels overly obliged to appear completely impartial and gives soft frees. I’ve seen it many times. It’s an unusual selection. Should have been a Munster or Ulster ref imo

Kerry weren't impressive only fell over the line against Cavan the winner of Offaly,Mayo have the beating of them in the semi final I feel. On the other side of the draw Tyrone look very strong look like the team to beat at this grade,

Rossies U17s would have been kicking them had they lost, got over the line in extra time for a deserved win against Louth.

Yes Willie Joe, where would we be without TG4, but for the rest us mere mortals, where would we be without the Mayo Gaa Blog! Thanks for all that you do.
