As a Galway man, living in Clare, I was remarking to myself only last night what out and out sound gentlemen the Mayo footballing community are.
Pádraig Ó Hora was not just outstanding on commentary for the Tyrone v Donegal match. He came across as a humane, cheerful and upbeat person.
Lee Keegan is not just as good a back our province has ever produced but he comes across on media as humble, erudite and good spirits.
Kevin McStay always impressed me as a gentleman. I recall he wrote an article - I think for The Irish Times - a few years back when Galway were in an All Ireland final. It was so personal, personable and positive. He really seemed to understand at a visceral level what playing a big match meant to a player and their family.
I couldn’t help but feel so sorry for him in recent weeks at the commentary he has attracted on this excellent forum that I dearly wish we had in Galway. It occurs to me that nobody takes on a job that they don’t intend doing their best at.
I wish Kevin every Blessing in the days to come.
In the final analysis, life is less about winning once off matches but winning the hearts and minds of people we touch every day.
In this respect, Mrs O’Hora, Keegan and McStay can stand proud.

Hoping it's nothing serious. It's a high pressure job. Especially when there's a loss and the fans turn on you quickly. It was simpler years ago before social media. There would be reports in the papers and on the news. But now everyone has an online voice, the majority of sites are pure toxic too, say whatever you like with no repercussions. As the famous Mike Tyson quote goes "Social media has made y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it" Luckily we have this site where sensible talk can still be had. Hope Kevin is back on the sideline in quick time.

No doubt comments on social media don't help but it's the failure of not being able to get the best out of the team that really hurts.
Like every manager you want to do well for your County, unfortunately it hasn't worked out for Kevin and that's where the real pressure comes from.
Management must be a great place to be when things are going well but when it's not, it must be the worst job in the world.
We can only wish Kevin well and pray he's soon back to full health...

Wish Kevin a speedy recovery. It does put things into perspective. We as supporters can get so obsessed and entitled sometimes. I'll be the first to hold my hand up. At the end of the day it's just a game. And an amateur game at that. There's a restart button every year. Our health on the other hand is not something we can just press restart on.

There is no doubt how much Kevin cares about Mayo.I mentioned on here before that I seen him in Phibsboro siting on a bench the morning after the 2021 All Ireland and I never seen a more dejected looking man.....
He is a true Mayoman that we can all be proud to have associated with our County for the last 40 years or so....my first clear memory of Croke Park was that "pass" to Noel Durkan and the ball going into the Dublin net past John O'Leary....and Kevin then admitting he miss-kicked it on The Sunday Game that night......great times in the wet Summer of 1985.
