We’ve home games in the National League against Kerry on the double this coming weekend, in both men’s and women’s football. The men’s game takes place on Saturday while the women’s match is on Sunday.
You’ll no doubt know the essential details about the men’s game by now. It takes place at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park on Saturday at 3pm, the early throw-in time being necessitated by the lack of floodlighting at the venue in the wake of the recent storm.
This game isn’t live on TV – the first game in our current Division One campaign not to be shown live on the box – but Midwest will be doing live radio commentary on it. We’ll be there in force, of course, on the podcast and will have our usual Final Whistle pod up on Patreon soon after it’s over.
Club members will also be able to chat with us and each other during the game on the podcast’s Discord server. This will, I imagine, be particularly handy for those club members unable to get to Castlebar for the game.
For those who are planning on going, the ticket link for it is here. Tickets are also available from selected Centra and SuperValu outlets.
Swinford Amenity Park is the venue for Sunday’s LGFA National League clash with All-Ireland champions Kerry. That one throws in at 2.30pm and is being streamed live by the LGFA, the link for which (match pass costing €11.99) is here. The ticket link for the game is here.
Still without any points after four rounds of games, Liam McHale’s charges are running out of opportunities to salvage their Division One status this year. The final two rounds see them playing Kildare and Waterford so you could argue that all is not lost yet, but, seeing as both of these already have points in the bag (Kildare have six and Waterford four – it’s three points for a win), our chances of staying up have to be slim. In retrospect, that unexpected loss to Tyrone the other week could prove the fatal blow.
Mike is commentating on the live stream from Swinford on Sunday and so club members can watch out for a possible bonus Final Whistle pod on that one later that afternoon.
The other football match of interest from a Mayo perspective this weekend is the second Hogan Cup semi-final, which had to be postponed last weekend. This will determine who St Colman’s play in the final at Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day.
Saturday’s semi is between Mercy Mounthawk and St Patrick’s College Maghera and it’s fixed for Abbotstown at 5pm. TG4 will be streaming this game live on their YouTube channel, the link for which is here.
Finally, the county’s hurlers are also in action at the weekend. Following their defeat to London last time out, they’ll be keen to get back to winning ways in Division 3 of the NHL. They entertain Roscommon at Adrian Freeman Park, Tooreen, on Sunday where throw-in is 2pm. The ticket link for this one is here.

Will have to chance Discord for this match, haven't figured out quite how it works but won't get down to Castlebar for this one. Hope there is a good crowd in Mc Hale and the Sun shines. Quietly optimistic.
