I hadn’t given this morning’s announcement of the list of nominees for this year’s football All-Stars any thought, so removed are we now from such lofty aspirations, following another year of underachievement on the field.
It was nice, then, to see that Jack Coyne has been nominated, the sole Mayo player on the list. It’s recognition for someone who always goes about his business in an understated but calmly effective way, with the Ballyhaunis club man having established himself as an integral member of the Mayo team at this stage.
Well done to Jack on his deserved nomination. More on the full list of nominees announced this morning is here.

Well done Jack. Austin o Malley seems to have a lot of strings to his bow according to the podcast. One for the future surely.

You beat me to it, Nephin, with that reference to the new podcast episode, which went up a bit earlier today! Mike chats on it with Austin O'Malley about Cuala's All-Ireland club success, Andy Moran's appointment as Mayo manager and more. The show is up on Patreon now.

Well done Jack on a stellar year. I'll be honest I was a little unsure on Jack as a man marker after 23 & 24. But he was excellent this year & really improved.

Nice to get some bit of recognition for an excellent season.
He is in his peak years now (25-30), so hope he pushes on now to be an elite man marking defender. With the new rules we need 3-4 of them. Having Jack at this level means we only need to find 3 more.

Fair play to him. I felt he stagnated a bit in 23/24 but he made real progress in 2025 and hopefully he goes up another notch in 2026. Keep it goin’ Jack!
