For the second match in a row, Jack Carney was a late inclusion yesterday in Mayo’s starting fifteen for the game against Donegal. The Kilmeena man sure made his presence felt in the first half at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, scoring 1-3 from play to ensure that his side went in at the break four points to the good.
Jack’s scoring exploits, allied to his all-round performance throughout the game, has seen him shortlisted today for the GAA’s Footballer of the Week award. You’ve now also voted him as our Player of the Match from yesterday’s game.
Jack topped the Player of the Match poll with 31% of the votes. Others to feature strongly in the poll were Ryan O’Donoghue (22%), Enda Hession (10%), Matthew Ruane (7%) and Donnacha McHugh (6%).
Well done to all of them, and to the rest of the lads who dug deep to ensure Mayo came out on top once again in a close-fought game. Special congrats to Jack Carney, our Player of the Match from yesterday’s game against Donegal.

Good man Jack well deserved and with the same name as the legend of 36 and 50/51 who’s from my own village and laid to rest there, he has to be good. I often visit the grave of the great Jacki. The headstone is old and I often think unless you’re an old buck like myself, you won’t even know who’s buried there. I think people like him should be remembered in Mayo in a special way.

Not one mayo flag on display this morning on the way to work and a national title approaching . What a change in mentality over the last 15 years. I remember the time everyone put out the flag if they heard a rumour preseason training had started.

Eye test but Jack Carney really looks like he's gone up a level. Looks more powerful and confident. Playing at a higher level than I ever seen him and I've followed his progress since u16.

He's wintered well alright JP, it's noticeable.
I doubt we'll see much of Paddy and Tommy this year. Surely they'd be making shapes by now?

Good to see another player come to the fore. Our fortunes improved from his return.
I’d say we’re up against it in the final. Kerry move the ball well. I’d have them 3 to 1 on to beat us the way they’re playing. Let’s have a right cut and we could move it a bit quicker than would give us a better chance. The 30 yard pass is a big weapon in the new rules.

Voted for Enda H, but Jack has been most impressive since returning. Gives us great options.
Interesting that posters are fearing Kerry. Should Croker not suit our game? Remember how we were finding McHale too restrictive? Or has that changed?

Yep very disappointing to not see Tommy or paddy and it seems very doubtful now they’ll play any part of 2025 . Paddy will be missed for sure but Tommy is massive with the new rules you’d expect players of his type to really excel in the championship.

So, Mayo top the division and win the league? Yes.
So, Mayo lose the league final and Mayo lose the league?
Yes.
So, the team that comes second in the league wins the league?
Yes.

I listened to McStay's post match midwest interview again and I believe his update on Tommy and Paddy wasn't a bad one at all. He basically said they are working with the SnC and medical teams and the outlook was good. If they are available for selection come Connaught Final day that would be great and that's approx 6wks away so their is plenty of time.

There's seems to be a bit of confusion as regards season tickets ie is the final included or not?
As WJ rightly pointed out the season ticket has been completely hollowed out in recent years, almost to the point of making it extinct.
However I'm happy to report that a league final ticket appeared in my account yesterday so I presume its the same for all season ticket holders.
Willie Joe says:
March 25, 2025 at 1:54 pm
Me too, FW, so I’m more than happy to have been proven wrong on this point. Once upon a time your season ticket got you into the league final if your county wasn’t involved, as well as the All-Ireland club final, but they’ve now cut back that benefit. At least retaining the ticket for league finals your county is in is something.

Looking ahead to league final, while we have the job of curtailing the star studded Kerry forwards, still without Seamie O'Shea and Duirmaid O'Connor of Kerry. Mayo have a habit of playing up to level of team they play. So if playing say Westmeath, play to similar level, usually dig out a win. Then week later play a Dublin, play to there level, and could win or could loss. I suppose that what make Mayo, exciting to watch, almost able to loss to anyone, or beat anyone in any given year. So while sunday not going to be easy, pretty sure in 2019 we were underdogs against Kerry team, of generally same forward line from Kerry, yet won the day. Will get goal chances, just need to convert them.

@JoeG everything backwards from Ticketmaster. You're better waiting until Saturday when they may release the good seats. More than once I have almost given up trying to use their system.
Extremely frustrating at the best of times and I am fairly good with Apps and websites.
Go back to a cash on one or two turnstiles and take the misery out of it.
We know it won't sell out and looking at all the costs for me and the family TG4 is starting to look like the best option.

Is anyone else having trouble getting tickets on Ticketmaster? Trying to get one for myself and 8 year old but every time I try to add 2 to the basket I get an error message. Have tried it using the code from Foireann for €5 off and also without using that and keep getting the same error message

Bonni Boyler says:
March 25, 2025 at 5:37 pm
@ Mike Kelly, if you click on the section, say 309, it shows the seats available in that area. If you zoom in and select the blue dots (seats) it then prompts you for Adult / Juvenile ticket. There is a notice there saying Juvenile tickets are only available from 301 to 331 or something like that so if your trying a section outside that it won't allow purchase. They will make more available every day or two until Sunday.
Southmayo Exile says:
March 25, 2025 at 6:05 pm
I think the crowd at the game Sunday will be so small that you will be able to sit in whatever section you want - regardless of your ticket number. They'll be lucky to have 20,000 at the game.

Thanks Bonni Boyler
I was able to get adult & juvenile. Anytime I tried to get the student/OAP with a juvenile it was giving me the error message. Obviously you can't buy a student/OAP ticket with a juvenile ticket. Nice way for the GAA to get the extra get euro off people!

Feel your pain Mike Kelly. I, and at least a half dozen others couldn't order on Ticketmaster last Sunday. And, Supervalu in Castlebar ran out of paper and couldn't print! Big, very big, shout out to Paul McDermott of Hastings Insurance who happened to rock up at the checkout and gave away four complimentary tickets to a couple of desperate fans!

@ Mike Kelly, yep seen another Note on ticketmaster that a Juvenile must be accompanied by an Adult.
Surely an OAP or Student is still an adult. When you click on the Blue dot it gives you the 3 options , Adult/Juvenile/OAP-Student but as you mentioned it won't allow you to pick .
@ No doubt, now I have to dig the feckin flat out :-) !!

Just after watching back Sundays game against Donegal again. At the game itself on the day I felt that Ryan McHugh was relatively quiet by his standards but I passed no heed as to why that was. But watching it on TV makes it pretty clear what a job Fenton Kelly did on him. He really stuck to him so tight all day long, a great man-marking job.
Shuffly Deck says:

Definitely Kelly’s best game for Mayo. He’s pushing for a championship place now.
I’d be one of the optimists especially after poor league performances normally but the question around Croker normally suiting us is one I’d normally bypass. Kerry have put up a few big scores. Anything less than high intensity and we lose. I know Kerry missing 2 big players but Dylan Geaney has added something for them which kinda offsets that. Midfield could be a problem for them but they have options all over especially in the forwards. It’ll be good to see how McHugh does on Clifford. Below 3 or 4 from play is a good day for any marker.
