Comments policy

Mayo Football Talk, a service of Yew Tree Media Limited, provides a forum for posting comments and it encourages open, constructive discussion. To maintain a high-quality environment for everyone, all users are obliged to abide by the following policy.

1. USER RESPONSIBILITY & INDEMNITY

By posting a comment on Mayo Football Talk (MFT), you acknowledge and accept that:

  • You are solely responsible for the content of your comments.
  • You agree to absolve and indemnify Yew Tree Media Limited from any legal consequences, costs, or damages arising from the comments you post (including but not limited to claims of defamation, breach of privacy, or infringement of intellectual property).
  • You will not seek to mislead other users or moderators by operating multiple commenting identities, aliases, pseudonyms or email addresses. Each individual may participate using a single commenting identity only. The use of multiple aliases to create a false impression of support, opposition, or consensus, or to circumvent moderation decisions, is prohibited.

2. PROHIBITED CONTENT

To ensure a positive community, we do not permit the following:

  • Unlawful Content: Anything that is defamatory, libelous, or encourages illegal behaviour.
  • Discrimination: Comments containing racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise discriminatory terminology.
  • Harassment: Personal attacks or the use of obscene language.
  • Trolling & Agendas: Persistent, aggressive “agenda-pushing” or comments designed solely to provoke an angry response.
  • Unfair Criticism: Over-the-top personal attacks on players, management, or contributors that go beyond fair sporting/editorial comment.
  • Spam: Promotion of commercial products or repeated “copy-paste” posts.
  • Identity Abuse: The use of multiple aliases, email addresses or identities by the same individual to mislead readers, evade moderation, artificially influence discussion, or otherwise undermine the integrity of the comment system.

3. MODERATION & ENFORCEMENT

MFT operates a “Notice and Action” moderation model in compliance with the EU Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065). Our moderators have absolute discretion in enforcing these rules to maintain a safe online environment:

  • Deletion: Violating comments may be deleted in full or in part.
  • The “Sin Bin”: Users who breach this policy may be placed on mandatory moderation (where comments must be approved before appearing) for a period determined by our team.
  • Exclusion: Repeated or severe failures to adhere to this policy may lead to a permanent ban from MFT’s comment facilities.

4. REPORTING UNACCEPTABLE CONTENT

If you believe a comment is unacceptable or breaches your rights, please notify us immediately by emailing comments@mft.ie with the following details:

  1. The handle of the commenter.
  2. The article or thread location.
  3. The date/time of the post.
  4. A brief description of the policy breach.

Our Commitment: We will review all complaints diligently and objectively within 5 working days. We may temporarily remove the offending comment while an investigation is conducted. MFT does not intend to host any content that is objectionable or in breach of Irish law.

This policy was last updated in July 2026. We may update this policy periodically to reflect changes in Irish law or our internal practices.
