Happy New Year

Happy New Year

The old year is gone from us – yet another one – with 2026 and all it holds for everyone already underway.

With the new year comes the resumption of inter-county action, first with the FBD in a few days time and then the start of the National League at the end of the month.

With Andy Moran at the helm on the sideline for us, 2026 feels like a new start in so many ways. You could argue that every new year carries with it a renewed sense of promise but I think there’s little argument against the claim that a new manager in charge of a refreshed panel playing in a way that seeks to take advantage of the revised rules gives us grounds for at least some optimism about the year ahead.

It’s all about to start again, time to strap in for another wild ride following the Green and Red, wherever this journey may take us. Happy New Year everyone.

Happy New Year WJ. When you throw Sigerson fixtures into the mix, it's going to be a busy January for Mayo football. Hopefully you can(or maybe you can delegate to someone)keep us informed of these games and where they can be watched.
You do an awful lot to keep us informed on all things Mayo and it is very appreciated by everyone on the blog

First time since 2014 Mayo season tickets have gone on general sale. Would this suggest the optimism isn’t there anymore despite new management?

Just a thought!

No value on the season tickets.
1 time you get a free jacket, gilet.
1st championship game free.
Guarantee an All-Ireland final ticket only benefit.

If Mayo GAA keep supporters well informed, supporters will be there imo. We are under no illusions its a very young panel, but they'll prove a handful for any county.

Is that accurate Juatathought regarding season tickets and general sale?
I’m asking as I bought one last year for first time out of nowhere (was happy to do so regardless though f the net benefit being diminished) and renewed again this year (similar reasons).
As long as the tickets are purchased if available then what would be the difference apart from a changing of the guard etc?

I think the reason with the season tickets is because they couldn't get the best seats despite being season ticket holders. They had to pick on a certain day yet even after they did better seats would become available in a few day's. Must be so infuritating. The only good thing with them is a guaranteed AI final ticket. So it's not lack of optimism but more of a flawed season ticket system .

I saw the Dublin and Galway team for this weekend.
Fitzgerald at FB the only Galway way player I knew, and the prospect from Tuam, Mcglinchey I think in the subs.
A Callaghan from Cuala playing corner back for Dublin, could be Cons brother.
I presume we will go similar with mainly new lads.

@JR - It’s mostly fresh faces, but the likes of Jack Glynn (former Young Footballer of the Year), Daniel O’Flaherty and Johnny McGrath (2024 All Star) are also included. I wouldn’t expect Mayo to go with as many newcomers — Andy will want to hit the ground running, and you can already imagine the hysteria in the county if he were to lose his first FBD game to Sligo.

Except for all Ireland finals - I was always found the season ticket location in the lower cusack was top class. There was no better feeling leaving a semifinal there knowing that your final ticket was already in the bag.

Just for fun, anyone want to have a stab at guessing what the starting 15 game will be for opening nfl game v galway? (...before anyone starts jumping up and down this is purely hunch based and not based on any kind of gossip or intel). What i think it might be, not neccessarily what what i would pick myself

Phillips (Haunis)

Coyne (Haunis)
Morahan (Castlebar)
Plunkett (Ballintubber)

Durcan (Castlebar)
Callinan (Ballina)
Fenton Kelly (Davitts)

Jordan Flynn (Cmolina)
Seamus Howard (Bmullet)

Nathan Moran (H/C)
Kobe (Cmolina)
Touhy (Castlebar)

Beirne (claremorris)
ROD (Belmullet)
Conroy (The neale)

I'd go along with a lot of those choices Supermac. However, that half back line apart from Paddy D would worry me. I'd bring Plunkett out to CHB, stick McMonagle at FB, Morahan LFB, and bring Enda Hession into the half back line. I'd rest Jordan too and give Diarmuid a run out if he's fit.
