It’s a big day of county final action tomorrow, with the destiny of both the Senior and Intermediate titles set to be decided at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park in Castlebar. There’s also the small matter of Senior survival to be sorted out at Ballindine tomorrow.
Whether you’re heading to Castlebar to take in what’s set to be a fascinating double-header or if you’re planning to follow the action from home live on Mayo GAA TV – and, yes, your season pass does cover tomorrow’s finals – you’ll probably have made your plans for the day already. For those who haven’t, however, here’s confirmation of the fixture details for the day.
The action gets underway at Davitts GAA club in Ballindine at midday where Ballyhaunis and Mayo Gaels face off in the Senior relegation final (ticket link here and team line-ups here). The two clubs have had to wait an age for this grisly decider, at the conclusion of which one of them will be celebrating their Senior survival while the other will have to accept the reality that they’ll be plying their trade at Intermediate next year.
That was Kilmeena’s fate twelve months ago. Now, however, they’re just an hour away from a possible return to Senior at the first attempt. Standing in their way in tomorrow’s Sweeney Cup decider are Moy Davitts, who have been knocking so hard at the door to promotion in recent years.
Throw-in for this game is 2pm at MacHale Park tomorrow and it’s also live on Mayo GAA TV. The ticket link for the game is here and details of the team line-ups are here.
The main event, the Moclair Cup final between Ballina Stephenites and Westport, throws in at MacHale Park at 4pm tomorrow. The Stephenites are chasing their 39th county title, seeking to claim their first county three-in-a-row in close to a century (in fairness, after claiming that threesome in 1926 they then went on to complete a six-in-a-row in 1929), to confirm their status as the dominant club within the county.
Westport, by contrast, have only one Senior county title to their name. But they won that one as recently as 2022 and, more to the point, they beat Ballina in that final so they certainly won’t go into tomorrow’s showdown nursing any kind of inferiority complex.
The ticket link for the Senior final is here and details of the team line-ups are here. This match is also being streamed live on Mayo GAA TV.
We’ll be out in force at MacHale Park for the podcast tomorrow and we’ll have a bumper show reviewing all the day’s action up on Patreon later on tomorrow evening.

Hoping for 2 good games, looking forward to the intermediate final as these are team that like to attack first and defend when they can. I going with Bohola Moy Davitts but it will be tight. Think Ballina will win the senior, I think they have just two many weapons but Westport have blooded some new talent like Joey Holmes they are still missing Fionn McDonagh Mark Moran Oisin McLaughlin, if they can win senior without them players I tip my hat to Pat Holmes

I thought kilmeena where the better team especially from 1 to 15 plus subs, moy davitts very reliant on individual talent in the forward line and when ronan Clarke went off it was the big moment unfortunately for them. Very exciting game though.

Why was Ronan Clarke taken off? He’d a really good first half, much quieter second half. Was it tactical or enforced?

Great game of football. Some fine young footballers on display. Fair play to both teams playing football in the right way. Good luck to Kilmeena.

@Roco88: He went up for a high bouncing ball and was limping/tending the back of leg just after (not sure if he'd hurt it earlier than that or was in the jump, but the first I noticed it). Looked like a tweaked hammer. Went off a few minutes later.
Mayomessi says:

Clarke was pulling on his hamstring so it might have been injury related. Cian McHale was very quiet, I that that kevin Ryder and Cormac o Malley dominated Ryan Kenny and Padraig Ruane. Cormac o Malley should be look at Mayo U20 don’t think he play for the U17 think he had a ACL injury.

The tackle on keegan is one of the types of tackles that should be punished more often so dangerous, diving on the standing leg as he's kicking for a point.

The free given to ballina to level it up is a free the ref would never have given if it wasn't a last kick of the game to level it up. Westport done something really well in where they pressed high and stopped ballina from playing keep ball. Entertaining game.

Great fightback by Westport, they look very fit, feel that they will take more from this today than Ballina. They look more of a team as Ballina seem very dependent on Evan Regan but will be another tight battle.
Fair dues to Kilmeena, quick return to the top rank again.
Clare says:
October 19, 2025 at 5:44 pm
Ballina were also down to 14 men which gave westport that come back . Wont be the same next week as it will be a wake up call to Ballina who also went into 2nd gear in thev2nd half . It was a square ball for westport .
Unstoppable says:
October 19, 2025 at 5:48 pm
@Clare
Westport were ahead when the lad was black carded, so the come back happened against 15 men.
Maybe just maybe, Westport are better than them. Like they were last year only for a late blow up.
It was a square ball. Gonna be tough for Westport though against a bigger town that can even rely on the Killala crew as well.

It was a pity such a leader in Lee Keegan was injured in a collision after what I thought the ball was kicked. I suppose he was just unlucky OHora was so committed to the block..

Ref performance in both games was poor imo. Maybe decisions balanced out but a lot of pulling dragging let go. Callinan and Thornton outstanding for Ballina, Finbar, joey Holmes future Mayo players. Subs worked well again tho the Keane rob from Clarke was illegal? Both teams deserve another crack, but leave the ref at home.

Whatever happens from here Westport have shown incredible resilience in every knockout game so far, a commodity is doubted they had, responded to massive adversity today in a game ballina looked to be playing entirely on their own terms and without their spiritual leader in leeroy. God forbid they ever start a game well though. All to play for now.
When is the winner out in connaught, because schedule is getting v tight

No, stream quality was very good all through for me.
Clare, you don't have to personally come on and argue every single point that could be construed as a negative for Ballina.
I have to say, Westport really impressed me today. They've displayed a lot of character and work ethic this year, which they wouldn't have been known for previously!

@Supermac: The winner will play North London Shamrocks (beat Tir Chonaill Gaels today 3-7 to 0-13) on the weekend of November 8/9th (so a fortnight from next weekend).
From there the winner plays the winner of Pádraig Pearses and St. Brigid’s for a semi-final on the weekend of November 15/16th, and the Senior Final on the weekend of November 29/30th.

Ballina got out of jail today I thought.
Was the Westport goal ruled out for square ball? Seemed harsh to me.
Ballina to be fair, showed lots of resolve to level it. But I just got the sense that Westport were the better team once they got to parity around midfield. And if they can break even there next weekend, I think they might finish the job next weekend

The square ball rule is different for an incoming ball from general play or a set piece, ie free, 45 etc. When a ball is kicked in from open play, the player cannot be inside before the ball is kicked, from a set piece you cannot be in before the ball(the old rule).
JoeG says:

Thoroughly enjoyed both games and will watch them both back today to see if any of the "controversial" calls were wrong. I'm totally neutral on both these games but I was sitting between a Westport man and a Ballina native and both were 100% sure on the square ball calls in their sides favour. Unfortunately it's a rule that is almost impossible in many cases to be confident on as you'd need two sets of eyes to be watching the ball and the attacker at the same time.
Hopefully Keegan and O'Hora aren't too badly injured because the game needs big characters.
Other than the usual suspects I was impressed with Ben Doyle and Luke Doherty. Should be a great replay next weekend if the weather holds up.
Can't agree with too much criticism of the refs because a game that's allowed to flow is far better than continual stop start stuff and didn't notice the players complaining.
TsuDhoNim says:
October 20, 2025 at 9:12 am
@JoeG: The camera doesn't catch the square (or where Evan was standing, Ben was fine) as the ball is being kicked from open play for the Ballina one, so the replay won't be much help deciding there.
The Westport one was correctly ruled out. Player entered the square before the ball from a sideline kick, so correctly given as a free out.
A messy rule for sure. Even with the benefits of replays it's a tough and often subjective call. Very little chance for refs or umpires to attempt making it with anything close to accuracy.

Westport will feel both lucky to get the draw after the start they had...and aggrieved at their goal being disallowed after a similar Ballina goal.... and also the dangerous tackle from the side on Keegan who was wide open with his leading leg extended , hopefully its not too serious...however great credit to Ballina they dug it out to get the draw and that's what champions do....and if they have O'Hora back next week it will be the spark they were missing...
Feel for BMD....so close and yet so far, but again great credit due to Kilmeena....what a team....and club....

2 hops says:
October 20, 2025 at 7:38 pm
Both refs let a fair bit go but I thought they were both pretty fair and balanced and couldn't see that they favoured one team over the other.
To me it's always a much better spectacle when the ref isn't overly finicky....but then I was there yesterday as a neutral so...
Ontheditch says:
October 20, 2025 at 8:29 pm
I thought ref allowed too many 'rucks' to develop and good and well if you came out with the ball. But I'm not arguing two hops, nothing worse than finicky and no continuous play.
The call to award Evan regan the free from the wrong position at end of first half for three back infringement could have been very controversial.
I could be corrected on that, maybe TSU would clarify, my understanding is that the free should have taken place from where the infringement took place.
TsuDhoNim says:
October 20, 2025 at 9:10 pm
@Ontheditch: That reading of it is spot on.
Mike even mentioned it on the comms after half-time, so probably a few in the media tower agreeing there too.
You could see Brick making the same point to the ref, pointing back at the half-way line. Always some potential for a breach to have happened much earlier than a whistle and the ref might have been playing advantage for a while before finally calling it (you'll often see/hear crowds or even players getting real angry at a call not being made while the ref is giving the side every possible opportunity to take a free pop at a score)... but hard to read that one and the way it played out as anything other than a slip on the call.
