Throw-in times for this year’s Connacht SFC fixtures have now been confirmed.
Our Connacht Championship quarter-final against Sligo, which has been fixed for Hastings Insurance MacHale Park on Sunday, 6th April, will throw in at 3.30pm. This is a match I definitely won’t be at, due to other commitments up here that weekend.
Should we get over that opening hurdle our provincial semi-final against Leitrim would be on the Saturday week (19th April) after that at Páirc Seán MacDiarmada in Carrick-on-Shannon. Throw-in for that game has been fixed for 4.30pm.
This year’s Connacht final will be played on Sunday, 4th May, with a 4pm throw-in time. The venue will, of course, depend on who is in it.
Mayo GAA have also confirmed fixture details for this year’s Nicky Rackard Cup (here), though as yet these only indicate the weekends the matches are on, not the precise dates and times, nor indeed the venues.
The same goes for the fixture details they’ve also provided for the All-Ireland U20 B hurling Championship (here).

Should be waltzing into a Connacht Final this year, maybe a bit undercooked Championship wise, but maybe a League Final might actually suit us this year. No disrespect to Sligo or Leitrim, but we should be winning these matches with change to spare.

Can’t see us making a league final - I think we’ll do well to get out of Celtic Park with a positive result. That doesn’t mean it can’t be a decent performance, where we see further progression of fringe players. I’d be more concerned about the battle at the bottom (not that I’m really that bothered about relegation provided we bounce straight back up). Obviously much better to be in the top division on a consistent basis.

@Bonnie Boyler Galway were within a few minutes of being beaten by Sligo last year.
Mayo are an enigma, capable of beating any team and being beaten by any team.

I agree. I wouldn’t be taking any team for granted. Mayo are the sort of team who on our day can beat anyone but on a bad day, can be beaten by anyone.

JR , Yew Tree, I know what your saying anyone can beat anyone on Championship Day. I don't think Mayo management will take Sligo for granted but realistically we should beat them and Leitrim. We should have Diarmuid and Tommy C back or on the bench and with a bit of luck Paddy D. Galway should get past NY and Rossies on current form. That would be my gut feeling. Think Sligo were showing great potential last year but seem to have dipped and Galway had a lot of Key injuries at that stage and probably did take a win for granted, and were very lucky.

Be hoping to see a few changes this weekend and maybe Ivers, Thornton and Coggins getting game time. None of them will weaken the team but best give Flynn a rest and be cautious with a few who aren't back too long .
I'd like to see more minutes in Coyne and O donoghue, Sam and Eoghan Mac in halfbackline getting match sharp, try matty at 11, Reid and Carney v Glass and Rodgers, coggins at 12, Thornton given a run if any doubt about Neary and get 70 mins in Aido with Darren Mchale following up on his good form and hopefully run out for Cian Mchale as he is really talented , physically there and seems to have that nerve and killer instinct.

A great win for Mount St Michael today. Bree Hession, Ashley Salmon, Isabel Philips were brilliant.
Heres to both St Colmans & Mount St Michael, Claremorris winning a A & B secondary schools All Ireland.

On Cian McHale, it's been mentioned on the pod a few times that he picked up a hand injury that required surgery so we won't be seeing him anytime soon.

I have to have a little rant here about the structures especially because it's the same week that John Prenty was on the pod! It's so hard to be any way excited about Mayo v Sligo or Mayo v Leitrim. Connacht, Munster, and Leinster football championships are redundant. Championship reform, proper reform with a structure similar to the league is as overdue as the rule changes were.

A bit late in the league for trying those lads and I’m not of the belief Reid should be tried in midfield against the Derry combo who make up the best midfield in the game. Carney did very well there last time so he’d be my first choice and if Flynn or Aido partnering Carney then ok to move Mattie up, not otherwise. Putting Mattie at 11 deprives us of a playmaker type role (12 maybe?). If we don’t mind throwing the game under the impression Donegal play their B team in R7 then fair enough but we’re not safe yet and would be good for next year to stay up. Ros look good in most games in Div2 but I think fear of relegation each year spurs us on better than chance of promotion from a lower Div. if we struggle to find new stars most years, at least being more battle hardened from playing at the top tier helps offset that. Re Connaught, while Galway are AI favourites (new rules suit them best), Ros could dump them out as they’ve a lot of firepower (if they can set up well enough defensively). We’d struggle to beat them. Sligo having a bad league but would have to expect a good performance in the championship. A step too far for Leitrim I think to do any ambush.

Any update on Durcan, Conroy, DOC and Neary returning. Those lads definitely could do with a game before championship

Sligo had a poor enough start to the league,as we did ourselves. They look like they may be turning things around,as we are ourselves. So it could be all about McEntee getting his run of form timed for championship. I'm a big believer in momentum so if he gets them humming for this next few weeks we will need to be fully tuned in. We also need to finish our league strongly and with a clean bill of health. All those things being equal we should have enough to get over Sligo and Leitrim, but management need to guard against complacency. Take nowt for granted.

Hello Willie Joe,
Long time no hear.
I also have a prior engagement 5th April, 19th April.
Should be a stress free game for Mayo as long as they keep an eye out for the banana skin.
Up Sligo.
Padraig.

Good to hear from you, Padraig, I hope you’re keeping well. It’s a game we certainly should win alright but in this life it’s best to take nothing of that kind for granted!

This is one of those weekends when the bench is nearly more important than the starting team.
Would be great to see a Paddy, Diarmuid,Tommy and Conor with a high number jersey, and get some minutes.
I'd be giving Jordan this one off altogether.

@2 hops: Totally agree there. You'd love to get a start into Diarmuid, Tommy or Paddy and tough to see any being ready for that if they're not fit to tog this weekend.
I'd throw in a few minutes for any/all of Bob, Evan, Finbar or Dylan (assuming they're showing well in training to earn them) being a big positive too.

Neary back in for Carney the only (named) change.
