Diane O’Hora confirmed as Mayo ladies manager

Andy Moran wasn’t the only Mayo manager whose appointment was ratified last night. Mayo LGFA also confirmed that Diane O’Hora is the new manager of the Mayo ladies team.

A bit like Andy, this appointment has the feel of something that was always going to happen. Diane is a former All-Ireland winning captain and a former All-Star. She holds three All-Ireland medals from that golden era of Mayo LGFA, an era that was marked only the other week when the 2000 team were presented to the Croke Park crowd on the LGFA’s All-Ireland final day.

The new manager also has strong inter-county coaching and management experience, having previously managed both Roscommon and Kildare. With the latter during her two years in charge she oversaw the Lilywhites’ elevation to the Senior ranks (and, as a result, a Championship meeting with Mayo) and they also won a League Division 2 title.

Following Mayo’s relegation to Division 2 this spring, followed by a difficult Championship campaign that culminated in the county’s retention of its Senior status with a play-off win over Leitrim, next year is set to be all about renewal and recovery. The well-respected Ballina native has all the qualities to lead the team on the path they need to take.

The best of luck to Diane in her new role.

With the upcoming merger of the LGFA and GAA, it would be good to see some of the men's management crew (S&C, stats etc) help out with ladies team (if requested).

Overall, Mayo ladies have no underage pedigree to work from (due to internal structures IMO), making All Irelands a tough ask, but gaining parity with Galway in Connacht is an achievable goal.

Tirawleybaron, we've won and contested U14 titles in last few years.

Coming merger, yeah I dunno about that, it’s gone very quiet and the biggest problem will be gently shuffling some of the head cases in the lgfa and camogie administration roles out the door.
If they don’t then it’ll be like the health board mergers all those years ago where all you got was more layers of admin and no improvement in anything

Mayo U16 girls also contested last year's and this year's finals.

@gizmobobs
1 title in 31 years

@JoeG
2025 final defeat was 4-17 to 0-5

If that's what is considered a genuine underage pedigree then standards don't have to be very high.

Granted it's better than what has gone before, but to base your hopes on making a few under 14/16 finals?
You'd be laughed out of the pub if you said Mayo would win an All Ireland senior mens title because we lost an U16 final by 24 points.

tirawleybaron I'd say you have been laughed out of multiple pubs.

No need to be swiping at underage girls and
management trying their best.

Are you volunteering?

Grow up

I am not swiping at either players or management
As I said it's the structure that lets them down.
I do volunteer and see all the effort in early years drop off in the underage game. The structures result in an acceptance that losing 66% of players between 13-17 is "just the way it is".
Any success by Mayo teams is by isolated effort rather than a result of a well planned and operated system.

I wish Diane all the best. Mayo will have high expectations, based on little or no underage success and senior success from 20 years ago. Makes it a tough job.

I think we have a great record at producing players in Mayo. The reality is our best 7 players play in Australia.

Take the best 7 players out of the Kerry's men's team and watch how much they'd fall off too.

Congratulations to Diane on getting the Mayo job.
It will not be a easy one as So many players in Oz or going to Oz.
Hopefully the young players are up for the task.
