It was semi-final Saturday in the Mayo senior and intermediate club championshipsas two of the biggest games of the year took place.
Castlebar Mitchels became the first team to reach the county senior decider when they beat Breaffy in Charlestown. Mike and John Casey chat about the story behind the scoreline and we also hear from Mitchels captain John MacMonagle.
Later in the evening, Ballinrobe produced a fine performance to get the better of favourites Moy Davitts in Garrymore in front of a huge crowd. Mike caught up with Paddy Finnegan afterwards and also chatted to Ballinrobe manager Eoin Hughes.

Breaffy would make a fantastic psychological study. I actually think they have a superiority complex. Every year they promise so much and talk a good game and when the crunch comes they fold like a pack of cards

PK, they were unbelievably flat as is often the case for them when it comes to the crunch games.
One conclusion I have drawn is its so much better having big games at club grounds instead of mchale park, atmosphere is always 10 times better and sometimes mchale park can seem a bit ghostly and distant when its only partially full.
Id be in favour of neutral venues for semi finals from now on with only the county finals being in mchale

Dissapointing game, guess they only for winning with pressure to get to the final. Mitchels will be delighted they were excellent defensively. Sad to see Breaffy collapse again , this was their best opportunity to win it out …their county lads are not getting any younger but I’m sure they will regroup and go again …

wasnt the prettiest of games referee was very bad at free kicks missing red cards giving blacks and yellows instead of red cards it was messy at times Castlebar won deservedly Breaffy could have snatched a draw they will come again but they only have about 3-4 more shots at the county title for those big names Garrymore to me will win it but Belmullet will fancy their shot at winning it

The two goals the one disallowed in the 1st half and the one allowed in the 2nd for garrymore where huge moments I think both should have stood belmullet will feel hard done by.

Very best of luck to Garrymore in the final, but Belmullet hard done by for that to get to extra time.

Some poor refereeing decisions against belmullet, the 2 point free at the end of the first half against them and also looked like a blatant pick up off the ground in the box in extra time. Great effort by both teams, it was a great contest.

Well done Garrymore. Belmullet in hard luck. Congrats Castlebar Mitchell's. Breaffy flops on big stage. Should be a good final.

Some of the comments on social media on Breaffy and Aiden O Shea reminds me of the comments on Mayo up to this year . What’s disappointing is that they are mostly being made by Mayo people. I hope their day will come .
Personally hoping Garrymore do the business and one of Davitts or Ballinrobe win intermediate, pure South Mayo bias !

was at ballinrobe moy davitts game
Moy daviits where 9 down reduced the gap to 4 with 15 to go
then a black card to cian mchale and a red for daragh ruane within 2 mins very marginally calls game over after that
