Club championship Saturday

It was a day of thrills and spills and high drama in the Mayo senior and intermediate club championships as the quarter-finals got underway.

Castlebar Mitchels and Garrymore booked their senior semi-final spots at the expense of Aghamore and Crossmolina.

John Gunnigan and John Casey were in Aghamore to see Mitchels get back on track while Mike Finnerty and Aidan Kilcoyne watched Garrymore win at home in front of a huge crowd against the Deel Rovers.

You’ll also hear reaction from these games from Bob Tuohy, Enda Hession and Maurice Brosnan of the Irish Examiner.

Plus, Charlestown beat Ballaghaderreen in the senior relegation play-off — we hear from Paul Towey who ran up a big score to help Charlestown come out on top.

And we also round up Ballinrobe’s surprise win over Ardnaree Sarsfields in the first of the Intermediate championship quarter-finals.

Garrymore deserving winners and I don't know what odds they were before the game but they should have been favorites, Crossmolina over hyped. Hession was excellent and McGreal will play for Mayo for a long time.

Mitchell's the better team v Aghamore. But I can't see Mitchell's or Garrymore winning it our given their lack of forwards. If Breaffy win today could it finally be their year?

Breaffy again so impressive, they are so strong in the middle and all there mayo players playing really well. Westports mayo lads haven't been good.

I think the lack of Mayo football for Mattie and especially Aiden is paying dividends for Breaffy now.
Aiden is fresh and looks more eager than I've seen him in a few years... usually the season has caught up with him by this stage.
I thought Westport had no one to deal with Connor's direct running either. He was my top man today.

Breaffy 2-18, Westport 0-18.

I thought the best player on the pitch was Breaffy's Davitt Neary.
He covered every blade of grass and kicked some nice scores..

Aidan O'Shea played well as did Matthew Ruane in the second half.
Good all round team performance from Breaffy.

Garrymore are a very well drilled team. Strong at the back. A few nice forwards too like Darren Quinn, Slattery and Mark Gibbons. Eoin McGreal did well on Kobe. Hession man of the match. I expected more from Kobe, Jordan and Conor Loftus. Dylan Flynn and one of the Goggins brothers played well.

Fantastic result for Belmullet, really impressive how kept well into the game when momentum wasn't with them, and grew into it really well when presented with their chances.

Could only watch Garrymore and Belmullet wins, both well deserved. Claremorris know where they are weak. First game that I have seen where I could see why people were praising Seamus Howard, Concannon the corner back is a bundles of energy but defensively Belmullet could be under pressure.

Garrymore are the opposite, defensively very strong but may struggle forward scores but could well reach a final as their confidence must be up given their run to date.

Both matches were enjoyable to watch, here's hoping for more of the same the next day.

Claremorris simply can't defend. They are so open and it's been an ongoing problem which is surprising because their manager Kevin Bierne was a terrific defender. Losing McCormack and missing Rio obviously doesn't help but whatever system they were trying to implement certainly wasn't working. Belmullet had their homework done and exploited the open avenues and could have had many more goals.
Garrymore against Belmullet won't be for the fainthearted but dhould be a cracker as will Mitchells against Breaffy.
Could Aido win a first county club title in the year he finally won an All Ireland?
