Club championship Saturday

It was another day of high drama and compelling storylines in the Mayo club championships as the quarter-final picture and relegation play-off realities began to become a lot clearer.

In the senior championship, Edwin watched Kilmeena stun Westport, John saw Claremorris get the better of Charlestown, and Mike took in Garrymore’s win over Castlebar Mitchels on Friday evening.

Mike saw Islandeady turn over Kilmaine in the Intermediate championship too. You’ll hear analysis from Barry Moran and John Casey and some post-match reaction from Jack Carney, Kevin Beirne and Darragh Joyce.

Off topic i know but what do ye think of the new rules being trialled? I hear a few not impressed with mcstay saying on radio that beirne goal would not have stood with the 3 handpass rule. For me i would be ok with extending the arc to the sideline and the extra sub and maybe the 4pt goal but otherwise I think it should be left as is at least for another couple of years and i think the 3 handpass rule could be a disaster for instance how is the receiver of the 3rd pass to know it acutely is the 3rd other than maybe a whistle from the ref and think it will lead to confusion all day long .actually doesn't sit well with me hearing mcstay leading a rule change the year mayo win.

Crossmolina and Mayo Gaels finished 0-16 to 2-10, a draw.
Aghamore leading by r over Ballintubber.
Means Aghamore finish top with a home quarter final, Crossmolina second and Ballintubber losing out.

Some drama today no one would have thought mayo gaels had a chance against cross, aghamore very impressive in the 2nd half, fergal boland very good in the 2nd half too kicked some brilliant points. Could we have a surprise winner this year.

Last minute point by Jordan Flynn earning a draw for Crossmolina.
Kobe scored a couple of points from play, plus 2 '45's.. He played the full match.
Mayo Gaels were better than I expected.

@no doubt the proposed new rules are going to be a disaster for referees to police I think the game is fine as it is for the moment. McStay had Mayo playing a terrible brand of football especially last year so I dont think much of him or his new rules

It was broken for years and they didn't do anything and now they have finally fixed it they want to pull it apart again. If it's not broken don't touch it

Leave the rules as they are. It was the most exciting football season in many years. The 2 pointer is a game changer. Ironic that McStay is looking for a 3 hand pass limit. when he was Mayo manager, his team would handpass back and over In the opposition half all day long.

We'd love to have the duo - Brolly and Spillane as joint managers in Galway. They both have a lot to offer and deserve a chance at IC management. Their motivational talks would be something else..

As regards the impending trialled rules...!
The elephant in room has always been the incessant and often lateral hand passing...
Had that been addressed under Jim Gavins stewardship the 15 behind the ball would automatically have disappeared from the game...
In fact .
I'd love to see the hand trialled with max two consecutive hand passes but allow ball be flicked by on the 3rd movement if necessary or practical.......
The other blight in the game thats frequently ignored in EVERY game is the overcarry... ie steps
Ive ioften counted double figures at games I attend in all grades. .
