The legendary former Garrymore and Mayo forward has always been great company when it comes to talking football.
So Mike went along to Billy’s home in Claremorris for a chat about Mayo’s All-Ireland victory, his own career with club and county, and to hear what he had to say on a range of topics from Andy Moran to Garrymore’s tradition to development squads.
The subject of a 41-year-old Billy Fitz’ coming on for Mayo against Dublin in the 1985 All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park also comes up for discussion.

What a legend and gentleman Billy Fitzpatrick is and so great to hear him on the pod with Mike after going through a tough period with his health. Wishing him all the very best of health and hope he sees another SAM visit Mayo very soon again.

Great to hear Billy’s voice and best wishes and health to him going forward.
Listening to Mike and Billy on the way home from League games was part of the soundtrack of being a Mayo fan growing up.

I was lucky enough to see Billy playing for the great Garrymore team of the seventies and eighties.
How was such a talented footballer overlooked by Mayo for so long.
Best wishes to Billy.

Lovely interview, great to hear those memories of the old days. I was lucky enough as a youngster to be introduced to Paddy Prendergast on the banks of Lough Carra in the early 90s. A towering figure, talking football and fishing. Great memory in a beautiful place.

One of the best podcasts ever. What a legend Billy Fitzpatrick is. Great to hear he is doing so well after all his health problems. It was just so a lovely interview. Fair play to Mike also.

I agree RosTown. I think this has to be up there as one of the best podcasts in the series since we won the All Ireland. Like people have said, Billy and Mike were such a big part of the journey during their time on Midwest. I remember always waiting to here who Billy would pick for man of the match. His opinion always seemed to hold more weight.
So happy Billy got to see Mayo win an All Ireland after all he has been through. It was nice to hear how much it meant to him. Wishing him many more years of good health. Well done Mike and the MFT team for another brilliant podcast.

I still remember Billy playing club football, he was a great player very unfairly treated by mayo selectors for many years, I wish him the very best of good health a gentleman. And I am from hollymount

Just listened to this tonight and it was superb. I never seen him play but I imagine at his peak Billy must have been some pacey strong athlete?
